Have also seen that high FOC arrows, where the point/insert weight creates 19% or higher FOC, that the heavy point actually starts PULLING the arrow, instead of the arrow PUSHING the point. The physics behind this is that the point weight takes over some of the steering the arrow. The reason for feathers is to overcome the wind shear on the broadhead. Some think that when we say "high FOC" we are talking about a heavy arrow set up, in other words, heavy shaft, heavy point, heavy over all arrow. In reality, the easiest way to achieve high FOC is to shoot a lighter arrow with a heavy point, and not be so concerned about total arrow weight. The objective is to use the correct target point weight that will cause a lighter shaft arrow to fly straight with no fletching on it. Once this is achieved, the same weight broadhead/arrow flight will be greatly improved.
@@peterjuulsgaard Yes sir! That 1 1/2 VPA is GIGANTIC! I have not had good success with arrow flight even with high FOC on 3 blade heads. We have the option here in my state to shoot 2 blades so that it what I go with. Single bevel and double bevel.
My setup for this season is 250 grain. Because I’ve chosen the setup to be the same in Africa later this season. I’m changing to a single bevel there, though. But one day I will try the 1,5” cut for sure.

Good shooting trad guy. I just purchased some 1.225, 300 gr VPAs with the dull head compared to the Snuffer, 125 gr with the pin head that bends vey easy. We will see this year.
That good video. Traditional bows usually put a lot of weight on the front of the arrow, to have a high FOC and with it all its advantages. Compound bows, which shoot with more pounds (60-70-80) have 100 grain points and 15-20 grain inserts, having a FOC of 7 - 10%, very low compared to traditional ones, but the arrows fly well and they hunt and kill the animals in the same way. Why that difference between the two bows? Thank you.
There is no rule that we need high FOC on tradbows. But there is a connection between the arrow weight and the tradbows. With a compoundbow you normally have overflow of kinetic energy, because of the high speed. With a tradbow you dont have the high speed and hereby not much kinetic energy. You therefore use a heavy arrow which increase the momentum of the arrow. The momentum is the factor that penetrates (look that up) so since the high arrow weight penetrates better, we might as Well put the extra arrow weight in front of the arrow, because it helps with better arrow flight and are much more forgiving with broadheads and finger release. So thats why heavy arrows also often become high FOC arrows. Most compound hunters dont do that, because they already have the momentum, because of the high speed.

It’s around 50 pounds at my 27”. To be a super curve I also think they are in the lower end of the noise scale. The heavy arrows I’m always using helps alot too. Thanks for sticking around
Good and informative as always 🙂👍 What do you think about the large broadhead in relation to wind ? Is it more sensitive to wind, or will the FOC make a stabil flight?
Sensitive, I would say yes. The high FOC will help none the less, because of the more drag forward. Even though the wind will move the feathers easy, the place of impact will rarely change. But the bigger the broadhead the more sensitive to anything. Considering that hunting shots are close, it shouldent be a problem. I hate shooting in windy conditions. I’ve tried both against each other and its easy to feel that it’s easy’r to make a mistake with the big broadhead, than with the smaller one. So it also requires better tuned equipment and better release with the bigger head. A bigger hole in the game doesent comes for free. Nothing does. Thanks for watching my freind

Perfect, much FOC with light Shafts. I do it exactly like that. Which outsert do you use? I have GT Hunter 340 with outside diameter 7,6mm and i can´t find a propriate long outsert. Do you have a tip for me? I really like your way of telling stories and your videos. Thanks for sharing
