A common question is: “What causes psychopathy?” This is a question a lot of people have. And as is true for other developmental disorders, there is no single cause of psychopathy. Instead, psychopathy results from a complex combination of genetic and environmental factors, any of which can increase risk.

I think my son was born with it. After having kids my husband's mother unmasked her psychopathy. As my son grew up, I noticed my son was very much like her, despite all the love, attention and firm boundaries I gave him.

@@JDdr86my son is 11. He is very slowly improving. He seriously doesn't understand the pain he inflicts on ppl. Ppl won't agree on this but if he hits, I hit back to show him what pain is. Of course I don't go too far, but enough to let him know. Then he stops. On some occasions I've given him respiridol so he doesn't kill anyone. He tells me he can't help it and he doesn't know why he does it but he just feels frustrated.Hes learning empathy by looking after a large dog that he respects because he's large and can fight back. I have also noticed that my son is thriving in the special class at school because they make learning fun. Some days I make eye contact and love when he's aggressive and it works. But other days I just can't deal with the abuse and I walk away.

Maybe he sensed the ill-will for your mother-in-law that you project onto him. While you’re looking at him and seeing your mother-in-law, he’s looking back at you and seeing his distrustful mother.

"Similar to the way ABA therapy reduces symptoms of Autism..." ABA Therapy is a highly controversial topic within the Autism demographic because therapists have been known to use inhumane, and abusive, methods on the children receiving therapy. The methods include electroshocks, screaming at the child, and taking their special toy away as forms of discouraging them from stimming, not making eye contact, and other symptoms that are completely normal for them, and also necessary for their survival. Do your research before speaking positively about something that's reputed to be abusive to children, especially considering that child abuse is a contributing factor for the development of psychopathy.

Thanks for saying this. In all places they saying psychopaths are born and thats like saying its inevitable and that we as a society can keep being unaware of trying to reduce sympthoms or prevent it.... So sad all people dont want to think most mental illnesses develop because how people are treated....

Psychopathy is caused by genes that much is true. But if you have those genes it's only an increased likelihood that it will develop it's not 100%. ASPD (sociopathy) is caused due to trauma and abuse.
@JDdr86
@JDdr86 11 месяцев назад
@@dakotakennedy2933 Sociopathy is an inaccurate term, and there are no psycho-diagnostic assessment tools using that word (the APQ asseses ASPD, which is NOT SOCIOPATHY, but it may in some cases be Secondary Psychopathy) . Psychopathy on the other hand, is in the title of not one, not two, not three, but FOUR psychometric instruments: PCL-R, PPI-R, LSRPS and the TriPM. Also, the MMPI-2-RF (the most widely used personality pathology assessment tool, and the most studied one, like, ever) has a section that assesses "Psychopathic Deviance", and that's the one they pay attention to in order to detect ASPD.
@dakotakennedy2933
@dakotakennedy2933 11 месяцев назад
@@JDdr86 yes but we're speaking to the masses which have very little understanding of these terms on an academic level so using the term sociopathy puts it into perspective better for those who are not versed in psychology because they already have some understanding of what we mean.

yep, I think that psychopaths are not born, but instead created by negligent parents. Infants do not have built in empathy, they learn it entirely from parents.

ABA therapy cannot reduce symptoms of autism, because such a thing is impossible. all it can do is induce trauma and excessive masking behaviour in autistic individuals, both of which are very harmful to people's psyche. this does not in my opinion detract from the prior comments about warm and responsive parenting reducing symptoms of psychopathy in some people, but i would urge caution on your part in discussing issues of autism and neurodivergence in the future. specifically about using the language of illness and treatment when discussing neurodivergence, since it can come off as an endorsement of the eugenicist-inspired ideals of organisations like Autism Speaks and Andrew-Wakeism.
@christhomas412
@christhomas412 7 месяцев назад
I was going to write a less poignant but similar response, so instead I will support what you've already stated. Understanding psychopathy as a form of neruodivergence is probably important, but that understanding must be tempered by a compassionate response instead of attempts at forced normalization. Difference can lead to conflict, but it can also lead to conversation, accommodation, and a more inclusive approach which humanizes people for inherent traits rather than criminalizing them.

My brother has ASPD and is also sadistic. He was always VERY strong willed, but was mostly a sweet and sensitive child I was pretty close to (He's in his 40s now). My mother and father are both controlling and my Dad beat him and yelled at him a lot. I consider him evil even though our parents and no one else in the family is. All the serious abusers I've known have been extremely strong willed. A strong will can make someone a good leader or it can turn someone into a demon, if they have bad character. In his case I blame 1) Bad parenting 2) The toxic pre-teen male culture he was in and 3) An inherited strong willed personality type.

Thanks, this is really helpful. As a kid I basically was able to completely break down my mother and manipulate her and the rest of my family to get whatever I wanted. I was 4! My parents are nice people, but having a kid with Psychopathy is hard on parents and marriages. I think we are just born this way and it's better to help the kid realize they are different and it is their job to fit it with the herd! Or else, to prison we go!.:-)

@@bradydeangelo284 People need to stop treating psychedelics like this... I know more people who have developed psychological problems, to the extent of nearly going crazy because of psychedelics than had been free'd from some disease by them. I would bet that if psychedelics helped ASPD we would have known by know, we've been studying them for some time. Also for some psychedelics can actually trigger mental problems. I know one person in particular who just had to move back in wit their parents after loosing their marbles because anything, even marijuana, could put them into a somewhat psychotic episode. I went this persons going away party not realizing she was in one of these episodes and her explaining to me that "they" took the story of dune from her brain and yada yada yada... I've also known people who've done Ayausca dozens of times and from what I can tell, they are just like everyone else, still have all their flwas.

I think this platform was one of many that was asked to participate in a hate campaign against me that has now destroyed my life and lasted several years. Someone asked abuser / narcissistic abuse communities on RU-vid to produce gaslighting videos to upset and devalue me. I hope I find out soon who spear headed these events- what has happened to me has not been done to anyone in the United States and I never actually did anything to anyone- someone lied to my local police department and district attorney so nobody would help me- that’s obviously not legal. And I was physically stalked/ harassed- my home robbed over 20 times- My computers & network hacked permanently- Hidden cameras inside my house- I wish someone would understand this can’t ever happen again. I would like people to tell the truth about who did this to me and why? And contacted my family and slandered me so I lost all family and friends- colleagues- I have no help finding out who did this. Why ? 6 years now of daily harassment.

I have a question. How does one get rid of a psychopath? One can get rid of a narcissist by mortifying them. They will never try to Hoover you again. Contrarily it is dangerous to mortify a psychopath. They will become stalkers and have it in for you, FOREVER. So, how does one get a psychopath to leave them alone? Is it ever possible? Especially after mortifying them? Thanks.

stop diagnosing people as psychopaths because they caused you harm or you associate them with those that caused you harm. do this and you have got rid of the psychopath and instead just have a troubled person to deal with.

every parent who's kid has psychopathy thinks that their child grew in ''normal'' environment, while actually those parents were doing things that changed their kid's mind. Things like- cursing, not giving logical advice, not rewarding good behavior, not punishing bad behavior, arguing in front of kid, treating child as a family pet, stonewalling a child, watching horror movies while child is present.... Yeah, all those people consider their behavior perfectly normal, while child is literally being tortured.
