My husband is a sailor. Literally, and he’s at work right now, so when he gets home he will be watching his first costube video. He loves age of sail history, I predict that he will be in the rabbit hole beside you, metaphorically, digging into the copy of Nelson’s Navy on the bookshelf. Rewatching master and commander, he watched it yesterday, to count the lines on the sails and calculate the width.

As a professional tall ship sailor, I fully endorse this look, and really appreciate your extra deep dive into the actual history and study of ships! just one correction: the "bow" bowsprit is pronounced like bow and curtsy, not bow and arrow. Also I'd recommend purchasing a sailor's palm, essentially a giant thimble that goes onto your hand like a glove, as well as a marlinespike (metal) or fid (wood or metal) which makes splicing much easier. All of these tools are useful in every day life as well, so they're good investments. Highly recommend the shops Artful Sailor (owned by some friends in Port Townsend, WA) and Sailrite

It’s like I can’t shake tall ships, even if I wanted to. 😂 (I even got to help with the rigging the last time I was on a ship, the two-masted schooner Opal, up in Iceland.) And in an utterly awful way to use a marlinspike: they’re great for opening oysters. 😂😂😂

Knowing the craftiness of the Donner clan I would not be surprised if one day we tune in to a new video that’s like “so we had a sail and so then we decided to build a boat...”

It’s funny that should post this on May first, because in May artists like to participate in an art challenge called MerMay. It’s a month long challenge where you draw mermaids!🧜🏼🧜🏻‍♀️ Have a blessed day!

You are so punny Morgan. Loved the dress and all the historical information is fascinating, especially calculating the size of the ship.

This has to be the most unique take on the historically accurate trend! My nerd heart was loving every moment of it, I used to love reading about historical ships. The end result was amazing 🧡

I was wondering which Ariel outfit you were going to choose, or maybe even if you were going to try and turn her mermaid look into a dress......this surpasses all my wildest expectations and I am loving it.

I'm amused that having a passing interest in sailing ships this the first time it's point pointed out fabric for sails is not one piece. It makes so much scene I'd never thought about it

i can't believe you actually made a sail. i love this so much?? i thought you would just use a regular white-ish fabric and bundled them all up to recreate the look but you went above and beyond!! you did such a good job and you looked so good in it. this one is definitely my favorite of the disney recreations. you made something completely out of the ordinary ugh i just love it :)) edit: also i love the puns *chef's kiss*

Laughed out loud at the "plausible addition" of the muddy dogprints . . . OMG, this is so on-brand for Morgan - historical deep dive plus the driest of wit and awfullest puns ("rendered speechless" indeed!).

So my dad sails wooden boats and a lot of my childhood memories feature woodworking and sail repairs. Dad used a palm for sewing. I have absolutely sent this to Dad.

You did an amazing job! I started splicing ropes when I was in Boy Scouts and really enjoy having that skill though I rarely use it even though I’m a recreational sailor. Your splice looked great!! Kudos to you for not taking the easy way around and staying as authentic as possible. The grommets are brilliant! Super job all the way around!!
