In my never-ending quest to enlighten you to the ways our diets and lifestyles affect our brain health and function, I went down to visit my friend David Perlmutter, a neurologist, to see what he eats every day to optimize his brain health. Stay tuned for future episodes.

I would say that listening to your body is always a good advice, since each of us can be quite different. If I ever overdo on olive oil or any other “healthy fat” for that matter, I feel quite sick… So I take it sparingly and try to add some common sense to it 😄

Huge fan of both eggs and olive oil on all things. Drizzle on fish, vegetables/salads and add to in vegetable soups, after the soup is ready. Also, a good quality bread dipped in extra virgin olive oil at the table as a starter. Yes, we need to sit down for our meals.

I love eggs. I grew up eating them. However I have been watching the videos by Dr. Gregor and he has repeatedly shown studies that indicated people who ate eggs had higher rates of cancer. It is difficult to know nowadays what a person should eat. I remember when I grew up we were poor and we cooked with lard and olio margarine. At the time people said the lard was awful for us and olio was better. Now they tell us the lard is better and the margarine is awful. My brother had olive oil every day. He died at 64.

Cook the eggs on lower heat for longer, browning (burning) them for that long denatures the proteins so they're not edible/useful by the body. Interesting the Neurologist didn't practice that... cooking eggs: increase bioavailability of protein overcooking eggs: (e.g. brown) decreases bioavailability of the protein.

There's 4times more HDL than LDL in egg yolk, so it should be preferred. Doctors give only egg white to patients to avoid the phosphorus content in the egg yolk that can be hard on the kidneys, but this should apply only to end-stage kidney patients, i.e. eGFR filtration-rate less than 15 ml/min.

But wouldn't it be better to just eat the olive intact instead of the oil? Just like with fresh orange juice, which is also too much sugar, it is better to eat the whole orange. Funny that you then promote one as healthy and the other as less healthy. Olive oil is also an operation, you get the oil from the fruit!

Use butter, ghee, lard for cooking and frying. Seed oils like canola, safflower or any of these seed oils are heavily processed and treated with chemicals to keep them stable. I suspect they lower HDL cholesterol because when I switched my HDL doubled. Also cutting down my bread, pasta, rice consumption might have lowered my triglycerides from over 200 to 89. HDL 60 Triglycerides 89. I did what is known as a keto reset for about three weeks. My craving for snacks or candy went away. Since the reset I have never felt better and my energy is constant without any ups or downs in blood sugar despite being hungry. I could be hungry but still happy and not panicked. Buy the eggs you can afford. By the broccoli you can afford because it's better than the alternative of frozen waffles or corn flakes. Insulin does not care if the food is organic or not. The pancreas has a job to do and doesn't discriminate. Glucagon or Insulin? The fuel decides what the pancreas secretes. Research Insulin resistance and you will learn more. It's not difficult to feed your body properly. Just rewire the brain washing from big agriculture, big pharmaceutical, big medical. Educate yourself on salt is important, fat is important and protein is important. High Carb diets are responsible for raising blood sugar, Glucose, insulin levels and if you continue you will get sick.

I'm a 26 almost 27 yr old college student. I love to hike. Swim. Volunteer. Up this far im lucky I've lived a wonderful life. I was born a preemie. 24 weeker, weighing a mere 1 pound 2 oz at birth & fight through some conditions (vision conditions.) life long eye complications. However, now as an adult, I suffer odd things. Joint pain. Fatigue. Swelling of my jaw. (diagnosed by a Rheumatologist with Degenerative Arthritis via CT scan of the TMJ Joint) I have diffuse body pains. Eye pains. Neuropathy. I've had blood tests to check for everything from B-12 to Iron, to proteins from the heart (I also have high blood pressure which is also odd.....), electrolytes (sodium was a tad bit lower than it should have been but not significantly low.) to every other blood test. All normal. Upon a brief neuro exam, my primary doctor noted that most of my exam was normal reflexes. No signs of weakness. Left arm and right leg reflexes were brisk. I set to see a neurologist in January. Never met him. So not sure what he'll do for me or what he will say. Hoping for good out come.

Dr. Perlmutter is the real thing; a great physician. Breakfast should go the way carbs are going: away! Two meals a day following intermittent fasting is the healthy way to live, with 10-15% of good carbs (vegetables), 20-25% of good proteins (organic from both plant and animal sources), and 60-70% of good fats (plant- and animal-based). However, I choose to avoid mammals and birds for ethical reasons and only consume sardines (small fish are much less polluted) and organic eggs and cheese from the animal realm.

She said she drink coffee with lots of cream and 4 sugars. We are talking about a 12oz glass of coffee. Anyways she served the kids pancakes with OMG lots of syrup. I mean the pancakes were drowning in syrup. She said the kids will not eat it if it is not sweet enough. (She forgot the pancake mix have enough sugar already) then an 8oz glass of Orange juice which have approx. 18g of sugar, fruits... more sugar. She had some eggs on whole grain bread. If I ate that much for breakfast, I’d be digesting that all morning. 🤢 The best diet in the world is a personalized one. We don’t all come from the same mold.

Our ancestors broke into tribes 10k years ago. Back then they were called the olive oil wars. There was resentment that some individuals were getting a liter per week while most scrimped by with 5ml at best. The 5ml group quickly became weak and spindly with deformed extremities and chronic cough. They took to eating soy beans and high fructose corn syrup which only made matters much worse. Their farts smelled like stale chimney dust, dust which had been composed with mouse droppings. They could no longer surf. Even though they obviously lived in southern California.

I'm skeptical that those who're time-starved or not a "morning person" would ditch quick and mindless carbs (e.g. toast, cereal, biscuits, muffins) to prepare and cook a meal for breakfast. Cleaning a fry pan is also more of a chore than putting a breadplate or bowl in the dishwasher. No breakfast seems more practical in that (presumably-typical) case, although then you're recommending they deprive themselves of their one morning comfort and boost.

@@User-pz4re Yes, we need to be very careful with greens, I and a friends daughter found that out after our bladders became full of oxalate crystals. If you feel like you have to pee a lot, there could be crysteals in the bladder. To flush them out took me a couple years. Vegetarians suffer from this more than others.

It’s confusing that so many "legitimate" medical celebrities give, what sounds like, opposite end of spectrum type of advice about nutrition concerning brain and heart health. On one hand you got figures such as Dr. Cardwell Esselstyn and company, stating that the use of oils and animal products are the leading cause of endothelial dysfunction which is directly correlated to Coronary Artery Disease and Microvascular Dementia; and on the other hand you have this video claiming what sounds like the opposite.

very clever answer but lot of people have not (enough) time to do their own "researches" or just don't feel like to or haven't enough skills to understand those papers, or distinguish between lobbies disinformation and what could be more honest and real interesting pieces of information and all stuff in between this is the reason why those kind of youtube channel exists
@RobertWadlow292
@RobertWadlow292 7 лет назад
I'm guessing you're on the high-carb low-fat side of the spectrum? It seems both ends of the spectrum achieve good results. They're both based on whole foods and minimize processed foods which proves why they both work well. I believe HFLC is optimal, not neccesarily a ketogenic diet (though there's no problem with that) but emphasizing obviously the quality over quantity of carbohydrates.

If you do this low carb diet you will necessarily increase animal protein in every meal, and I am not sure if that is a good plan either. Also you can't be eating fish all day, because most of it is more or less with pollutants and also you can't suggest to 7 billion people to eat fish every day. Is it really practical this diet? Dr Pearlmutter always talks about cereals as refined wheat. Maybe if we eat quinoa, buckwheat and other whole and wild cereals all that theory of him would crash.
