Is it a sin to participate in gambling, the lottery, games of chance, or sports betting? Does the Bible anywhere explicitly condemn gambling? Why is gambling so attractive for some people? Why is it so easy to become addicted to gambling?

If you are trying to jeopardize your families future based off a roll of the dice, then that is wrong. However, if you are playing cards for $20 with friends for an evening I don't see that as any different as going out to see a movie. It's not as much about the movie as it is the entertainment.

I honestly don't see how somebody can say they are against all forms of gambling (even small amounts) and then say that "investing" on the stock market is okay. You are putting money in a system that is absolutely uncertain. Side note: I'm not saying it is bad to invest in crypto or the stock market, but rather it seems to basically be the same thing. You put money in hoping to make more later. You aren't working for it to increase. You are just trying to use smart decisions that you hope pay off.

Well said. I know about a lot of this.. I know people who judge Saying you are bad to gamble.. YET. Lost a million in stocks.. I know one who KEPT Putting money into it..And justified it saying ITS A SAVINGS.. No.. You can't just take it out.. I've seen it hurt badly because the Stocks ARE RIGGED..we have learned.. and it is still putting large sums in and Bamm they dissapear.. it's all a chance... unless you Work for it.. thanks..🙏🙏🙏

When you invest your making money by lending yours to a gorvern or an estabishiment ,at least this is How things roll around here in Brasil, so either your making some firm increases their profit by having How to acquire New resourses thanks to your money invested or your helping your own government that aid Will return to you some day. In both ways your making things better for you and for the others without taking anything from them.

Hi. Thank you for your in-depth analysis on this topic. Have a coworker that recently got into sports betting and I've been talking to him regarding his progress and obviously the thought crossed my mind if whether I should give it a go? Cause I do like certain sports and I reckon I'm knowledgeable enough to be able to make some money. But I couldn't get myself to commit yet cause I haven't done my research on what God says about it and here this morning you guys are discussing it. Got to absolutely love how God guides and works in our lives. The guidance and love is absolutely humbling. Thanks guys appreciate you. I lived in Vegas for a few years and we ate too much at the buffets. We'd get coupons for buy one get one. My daughter liked to play the machines and had me come along. She'd give me $20 and she had $20 and when we spent it we were done. A few times I came out with $80 and she wouldn't take her $20 back. There was certainly the temptation to try to double what I won. The games were fun and it was time with my daughter. For someone with an addiction to gambling Vegas is not the place to live. In spite of what I said above we rarely went to the strip but occasionally off strip casinos to bowl or see movies. With that said I did not get as much Biblical admonition against gambling as I expected. I don't consider $2 spent on the lottery every once and a while as gambling. Putting my paycheck on the line however goes way beyond gambling. Loved those buffets though.

I agree with this outlook. If you play a game as a form of entertainment and you have set limits for such fun it is no different than an arcade. However if you have the slightest hint that you can become addicted I recommend you flee with urgency because it is no longer fun but a dependency on something other than God

Money gained from employment is effectively the result of a trade. A give and take process. Gambling is based on risk. For someone to win someone else has to lose. It could be thought of as legalised theft. There is no trade. In addition the companies who enable this make their money from both parties. Gambling appeals to a get rich quick worldview. Money for nothing. As an gambling addict, not gambled in over 5 years, i would advise that nobody should gamble. The dangers are too large. I agree with question 2 gambling is a selfish act.

Is gaming the same as gambleing? Do we play to win? Are you a good sport or a poor loser? If you play for a team agenst another team do we give it our all to compeat agenst the odds? No don't get my line of questions wrong. I'm not talking about an addiction. I'm talking about having some fun.

Poker is my video game. Don't spend any money really...less than $50 for months... but I gain emotional experience n math skills...I love it... no money..

Just the other night my kid got me upset.... n I completely changed my game....less thinking....less math.... I was blown away to see the actual value of my emotional "break" .... it was literally dollars and I manage my poker wallet like a pro. But the idea that my emotional state was punctured and I couldn't multilaterally manage anger and my odds n math system I've made playing poker. It was a huge life lesson. If I win big. It goes to God. All of it.

I think gambling is so unchristian. Our money is not our own. Every purchase we make we should ask ourselves “does God approve of this spending?” If everyone that gambled gave money to the poor there would probably be no poverty.

The poor will always be among us. I do not serve a God that wastes his time on judging me for buying something as opposed to saving a soul. This way of thinking does not represent the God of love I know but the God of punishment and control.

So long as it’s not excessive and hurtful to your well being or others then I see nothing wrong with gambling. I look at gambling as entertainment and your going to pay for entertainment anyhow what difference does it make if your gambling 30 dollars in a slot or paying 30 dollar for a movie. And tbh you might not even like the movie.
