Grandma's secret recipe revealed after almost 200 years! Baked like 1823!

Ingredients:
cocoa dough:
400 g all-purpose flour (3⅓ cups)
150 g sugar (¾ cup)
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2 tbsp cocoa
pinch of salt
3 tablespoons 30% sour cream
100g butter (3½ oz)
2 eggs
vanilla batter:
150 g all-purpose flour (1¼ cups)
80 g sugar (⅓ cup + 1 tbsp)
1 tbsp vanilla sugar
1 teaspoon Baking powder
50 g butter (1¾ oz)
2 tablespoons 30% sour cream
pinch of salt
Cream:
750 g cottage cheese (1 lb 10½ oz)
3 tbsp cornstarch
200 g sugar (1 cup)
The pulp of 1 vanilla bean2 eggs
100g butter (3½ oz)
Zest of 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons 30% sour cream
200 g apricot jam (7 oz )
Bake: 190°C / 374°F 30 minutes on top/bottom heat
Baking pan diameter: 30 cm x 35 cm

My Grandma was full-blooded German and made many old, traditional recipes but I don't remember her making this cake. I was blessed to get her oldest and favorite cookbook and her recipe box so I need to look through them to see if this was a cake she made. I saved your recipe but am really curious now. You are such a beautiful lady, I love getting a look at you!

@@Einfache-Rezepte Absolutely!! If we lived close I would love to read through them together! I was so blessed to get both of my Grandma's recipe boxes. The one I'm talking about here I got to take care of for the last several years she was with us. I went in the morning & Momma & Daddy went after he got out of work. A fun story, when she still cooked a lot & I was trying to write down many of Grandma's recipes I told her over & over, Don't you ever measure anything? It was always Enough of this till you get the right consistency, until the color is right... Then I was trying to share a recipe with a friend of mine & guess what she said? Do you ever measure anything? How do I know if the color or consistency is right??? I went to Grandma's before I went home and ran in saying, I did it, I did it, I turned into you and am a great cook!!! She laughed (I can still hear it!) & said You always have been a great cook but, do you want to explain the rest? What a memory! I also wrote in her journals for years so she left them to me. More amazing treasured possessions! I was so blessed with my parents & grandparents! 💗

Oh, das sieht traumhaft aus! Was gäbe ich drum, ein Stück probieren zu können! Die Videopräsentation wie immer spannend bis zum Schluss. Das Reiben des Wellholzes auf der mehlierten Holzunterlage jagt mir jedes Mal Gänsehautschauer über den Rücken😅. Vielen Dank für diesen schönen Tagesabschluss!

I have seen the dry like this with many different recipes, generally from countries other than the US and have thought the same thing. I have wondered if getting a large curd and straining it may work.

@@sherylduden335 I looked it up & you can put our regular cottage cheese in a colander, rinse it and dry it well. You can also use substitutions but to me rinsing & drying looks closest to hers.

My maternal ancestors came to the US from Germany in the 1860's, and my Great Grandmother didnt speak English, only German. As proud of their heritage as they constantly claimed to be, they never made a single dish or shared one single recipe from their home country. If i could go back in time, i would ask "why not?". I imagine that many if the recipes here would be familiar to my family just 3 generations ago, and I hope to try some of them soon

However, it's never too late to reconnect with your roots and explore the culinary traditions of your ancestors. 🥰

My guess would be the ingredients were probably harder to come by than they are now. What we have available in the US isn't quite the same as in Europe.

Thanks for sharing this recipe, but you leave me with one question: Is there any reason why you take baking soda for one and baking powder fir the other dough?

The cake looks very delicious! Is the filling made cottage cheese/hüttenkäse? I think the despription might be a bit lost in translation (dutch) as it says kwark, which is usually creamy and runny and yours looks more like a crumbly cottage cheese or hüttenkäse.

It is actually cottage cheese, correct. We get that error a lot, sometimes even the other way around. Sadly no way to work around it as our translations are provided by Google. 😅
