Steve Nichol, Jane Eugene and Carl McIntosh came together in London, England to form the British soul band Loose Ends in 1980. The group was founded by Steve after he left the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He would meet Jane at a party and, together, they decided to create a band that at one point had nearly a dozen members in it. Throughout the process, they also looked for a bass player. They tried out numerous musicians but, none of them quite felt like the missing piece of the puzzle that they were looking for. Until they met Carl McIntosh. It was a no brainer that he was the one.

I think that shipped has sailed already. From what I heard Carl McIntosh tried to reunite with Steve & Jane but to no avail. Even after all these years there's probably still some resentment.

Absolutely LOVE Loose Ends. I heard "Hangin' On A String" back in 1985 and never looked back! I have all of their music...even the album that was only released in the UK. This is what timeless music is made of! 😎

😩 I loved them so much growing up. My mom was always playing them in the house when we were cooking and cleaning up. Flashbacks to my childhood and neighborhood parties comes to mind when I hear them. 80s and 90s r&b will always hit different ❤️❤️thank you for covering them!

I remember when I first heard hanging on a string - I was shopping w my mom in Manhattan the year was 1986..I was 6 years old and it was my fave song along w Mary Jane girls “in my house” …still a fave to this day and I’m 41 now

That hanging on a string was my mommas jam before she would go to the club with my aunts lol... Good days.... Everytime I hear it I remember watching them getting ready to go out...that song is absolutely reminiscent of that S.O.S track tho... Jimmy and Terry are still my favorite producers but I can see them feeling some kind of way...

That’s one disease that has killed a lot of groups 😔 because someone’s thinking gets individualized. They think they’re better solo and that sometimes doesn’t work for some.

Loose Ends by far is one of my favorite R&b groups. I still listen to their music to this very day. I was disappointed when Jane and Steve left the group. I also wished Jane's solo career got off the ground.

I mean independent of the group. You do know Jane has an unreleased EP that she recorded back in the mid 90s? Most people don't know it exists because it was never released to the public. Well I came across this rare gem about 3 years ago on RU-vid. I downloaded it. The name of her EP is "Selections." Just type in "Jane Eugene, or Jane Eugene of Loose Ends." One of my favorites on her EP is "One Kiss to Far."

Actually, there were several black British soul artists in the 80s (Imagination, Jaki Graham, David Grant, The Cool Notes, Princess etc) and some even appeared on US Soul Train. Speaking of which, we even had our own Soul Train here in the UK, and yes, those artists received radio airplay. They just didn't last.

Because of RU-vid and the internet I was able to find tracks not released in the US by the group. Songs like.....Only A Day Away, In The Sky, and We've Arrived US and UK versions to name a few. Even came across a unreleased EP recorded by Jane Eugene back in the early 90s called Selections. One of my favorite tracks on that EP are.....One Kiss To far and I Can't Stay.

Hey I came back to let you know that I finally saw Loose Ends live. Last night in NYC starring Jane Eugene. She put on a great show. I guess she’s allowed to use the name because she’s on tour. Her band is amazing. I even got to chat with her and get a selfie. She was sweet.
