I will say, as a viewer, the beauty community used to be so much fun. Then everyone got full of themselves, so bougie and materialistic to the point where they were unrelatable, and the drama just made it so negative. It just stopped being fun.

Honestly Laura’s step back from make up was so smart … a lifestyle channel is so much more relevant to your followers especially since the pandemic hit no one was putting on make up, they were home ! Also, when Laura came out with her noodle patootie palettes everyone bashed her for being “boring” when everyone was putting rainbows on their eyes NOW everyone wants soft glam natural makeup aka noodie patootie ! Laura keep flourishing QUEEN !! 💛💛

Can y’all get a camera for Tyler so you can switch to his cam when he’s asking questions or making comments? I think it’s be funny to see his reactions. Like how H3H3 does it.

In my opinion… the beauty community “died” for many reasons. I think it started with brands over saturating the market. Then there was massive drama, which put a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. People “became” people you did not want to support… then the pandemic happened and I think this over consumption of makeup came to a screeching halt for a lot of people. People were loosing their livelihoods… it was unappetizing to watch someone review a $100 foundation when say you or your partner were out of work for 9 months. And then once life started to come back to a new “normal” TikTok entered the chat.

I’ve really been wanting to branch out and post more things outside of just strictly beauty and this episode was really the push I needed ❤️ you guys are the best!

I used to be obsessed with beauty RU-vid. The only reason I still watch my favs is because I love keeping up with the creators that I fell in love with over the years. Like you guys, rawbeautykristi, Kathleen, & Tati. Covid & quarantine really ruined my love for makeup.

I think the beauty community is moving to TikTok. Maybe it’s just the “younger” ppl. I’m still a huge fan of finding up and coming beauty influencers. Love y’all!

The drama. The bouji makeup. Becoming unrelatable is what turned me away. And I just stopped watching makeup gurus all together a few years ago. Love watching lifestyle. Things I can relate too. I still enjoy a get ready with me every now and then.

The small beauty community is and has been thriving for years! ✨

I've been over beauty channels for like 4 years. Life is different, I don't obsess or collect makeup anymore, I don't have time or interest. I'm a mom now with a home and into mom or lifestyle channels that are relatable. Which is after all why RU-vidrs are watched a lot of times, relatable to the viewer.

We grew up genuinely not knowing how to do our makeup. Kids these days are super put together and look so different than we did. They don’t need to learn like we did. They skipped the akward stages we had.

Since March 2020, I’ve gotten back to loving nail polish and staying on top of the collections. Since I don’t wear makeup as I work from home, I feel the need to buy new makeup anymore. I treated myself only during the Sephora VIB sales but that was it. And skincare is still a priority as well. I watch the makeup for fun, but don’t pressure myself to keep up. I wanna focus on panning my makeup now 😊

This episode was super relatable as a content creator and I want to thank you for talking about this subject. My fiancé and I are musicians and create reaction based content. We recently took 6 months off due to my fiancé’s struggle with bipolar, which he only was diagnosed with after we initially took this break. We were crumbling under the pressure of constantly creating and couldn’t help but compare ourselves to others. It was sad bc music has been our passion our entire lives, and this was the first time we experienced it feeling solely like work, and eventually felt completely drained. But after getting the help we both really needed during this break, we started recording again over the past few weeks and are in it with a whole new attitude. We are now committed to spreading mental health awareness throughout our videos and are coming back with honesty to our subscribers and normalizing these issues that we inevitably can all relate to at some point within our lives. Thanks so much for your input and reminding me that we aren’t alone in this and that even bigger influencers struggle too. Coming back into RU-vid with a greater purpose and healthier perspective feels amazing. Thank you for always being creators I have looked up to over the years! As an avid beauty community watcher, back from 2015… (watched some of manny’s first videos) I agree that the drama took over the beauty space. We saw so many apology videos instead of makeup content and it was beyond what I wanted to watch. I love Laura’s new lifestyle content.

Laura.. as time rocks on with your mom being gone.. you will forget what her voice sounded like. But because you have videos with her.. you will always remember her voice. ❤

I think what happened to the beauty community was a blessing... There was to much cattyness and BS that needed to just come out, coz the people that LOVE makeup is still doing makeup, and the people that were in drama either grew from that experience or still trying to BS their fans ahem "ace family" so come at me if you want but I loved what happened.

Y’all should do a video where Laura redecorates a space in manny’s house I feel like that would be so fun and hilarious! And Laura would genuinely kill it! And teach manny how to cook a dish!

I totally agree that Laura’s transition to lifestyle content was much needed. I also think that the way she did it played a huge part in keeping success. It felt very genuine and you can see how much she enjoys it. I can’t wait for manny to start sprinkling in some new content.

You know what’s crazy? I used to have all the socials. Once i deleted IG, FB, SC i caught myself being so much more on YT! Now it’s my favorite & I’ll watch ANY video as long as I like the people

I was about to say the drama crushed the beauty community as a whole - 💯! It showed viewers some influencers true colors and how egotistical they are. Not everyone, though! Some are so genuine and still produce great content, but some just changed BIG!!!

Your videos helped me in so many ways. I love to apply makeup listening to you twos podcast. I like to listen to them until I fall asleep (not boring just helps me fall asleep NO SHADE) thank you.

Okay, so as a teacher I really needed to hear this. I’ve been feeling stuck on what to do for my kiddos in regards to activities for them. Even though it isn’t online content, it’s still content that I need to have every single day! I absolutely love teaching and getting creative but I feel the burn out coming. I don’t want to lose this passion so this really helped me take a step back and try to have fun. I’ll stop focusing so much on having perfect content and more on simply TEACHING and LOVING my little ones the way I did when I first started 🥺❤️

Breaks my heart to hear LL break down when thinking about her mom. Ugh I still think about when she told us and I was in complete and total shock. Manny & Tati are literally the only Makeup Influencers that I still watch. I like Laura's trying different product videos like when she buys stuff from TikTok. Other than that, I don't really watch RU-vid videos anymore. I even thought about doing my own "Women over 50" makeup videos, but again why? There's too many out there. Enjoying the Podcast still! ☺️

And people love authenticity. So whatever it is you ENJOY please do it without hesitation because enjoying what you do is priceless .. maybe i need to take my own advice too 🥴

I think that our generation of beauty influencers have graduated to celebrity status. You can post literally anything and we will eat it up. Don’t feel like you have to keep up with the trends you guys have already won our hearts and our support!

I love makeup and beauty content there’s just something so therapeutic about putting makeup on. I have started a tiny beauty channel and I am rooting for myself through and through Im proud of my content and at the end of the day if I’m my only supporter at least I’m proud with the content I’m putting into the world. These types of topics really help me out. I want to thank you guys for being so real and honest. I’m going to try different things on my channel as well.

I truly think beauty tutorials would always be important because beauty & styles are always changing & trends are always happening ❤️ I got into cosmetology at my high school in Georgia as a freshman & did that until a sophomore but then i moved back to Maine & tried to finish but altogether I have 6 years under my belt & from when I started to now the whole industry has changed & is always doing something unique, new, edgy, etc ❤️ what I loved about cosmetology & what gravitated me towards that career path because it's fun, you love what you do, never boring, fast paced (sometimes), challenges you in general & you get to meet new people, help them & listen to them & build lasting friendships / clients. I would not say Beauty community died, I think it just changed. When I got into Beauty RU-vid I mainly followed these really big million subscriber influencers. However when all the unnecessary drama began with the big influencers I moved towards more mid-sized and small beauty channels. I find it a refreshing development that there are now more niches within the beauty channel category, instead of just everyone reviewing the same Sephora/Ulta sold products.

I lost my love for watching right before Covid. The brand trips were fun at first, but then it was someone saying how much they loved a product, yet never used it again. It was obviously just a cash grab. The drama gets old. I LOVE watching Mikayla on Tiktok, she is so excited over simple crap that most youtubers don't even talk about. I smile every time I see her. I'm not into videos when the person isn't into it, it's obvious to us.

Someone on here hit it on point. All the influencers who started making good money all bought the same multimillion dollar farmhouse style home in the valley, the same Cartier bracelets, luxury cars & SUVs, designed bags YSL, or showing off Birken bag’s, etc. Materialistic and and full of themselves. Same boring product reviews and pushing product codes. Jaclyn was and still is the worst one 🙄. I unsubscribed to almost all beauty influencers….Also people losing their jobs with the pandemic and seeing influencers posting weekend trips & vacations to Mexico etc just turned off people.

Probably a huge part of makeup not doing well anymore is that a lot of the people who watched those beauty RU-vidrs are no longer watching makeup videos bc our interests have also changed! Like the beauty RU-vidrs have gotten older and so have we so we’re all growing together and outgrowing stuff at the same time. Some of the beauty influencers that are still pretty popular on RU-vid are typically the ones that are associated with drama and I believe they have a younger following/fan base. Just a thought & something I’ve observed over the years as well ☺️ love this podcast and loved this episode!

I think part of the reason why the beauty community gets so much backlash too is because now more than ever brands are creating SO MANY new products that it makes consumers feel like they’re getting products shoved down their throats in every video and lifestyle content is typically more laidback and not aimed to get people to buy something in every video

I was in my early 20's when the beauty community blew up and this is how I see it. I was far more interested in makeup and learning about it back then compared to now. I feel like everything I wanted to learn, I did. And tbh the toxicness of the community did play a part in why I stepped back. It started to feel like everything was a money grab, nothing was honest anymore or relatable. It was a strange switch but I think a lot of people knew it was coming. Annnd the new SATC is crap. Without Samantha it's not the same and the writers did them all dirty by making them all old and boring 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seriously.. the whole conversation about loving your passion and working. Makeup being a passion vs make up for work… my life story in my career .

You guys are so on point. I personally don’t really care about the makeup videos anymore as much as I used to because I know how to do makeup now. I used to watch them more to learn and also to see what products were good and now I’m more interested in life style videos or videos about food. I really think Laura was smart and switched her content at the right moment. Also with Covid and wearing masks, videos about makeup sort of became irrelevant to me.

I feel like the beauty community overflowed. It wasn’t the same genuine content that all you OGS gave it became gimmicky and hard to know what influencers were honest and which were just promoting for that coin! So I thank you guys for always being authentic I still always watch the OGS that’s what I grew up on. But I will say mikayla is probably one of the newer guys ones who gives that entertaining content and genuine passion for makeup like you guys do/did when your main focus was only makeup. Love that you ventured out!!! And love everything you guys thought me 💗

I’ve always wanted to create my own beauty channel (and more recently lifestyle). The only thing stopping me all these years is fear of failure and not “making it”. And now I feel like I’ve missed the mark, and to start now will get me no where, not only because of the industries saturation but because what viewers want to see is shifting and I don’t know if I’m creative enough to keep up. I love lifestyle content, and still adore makeup. Laura, Manny, or anyone really: do you think it’s ever worth a shot to try and “influence”? Or should I just focus on my 8-5 and let go of that little dream I always wondered about?

Aww Laura I felt your feelings about your mom so much, I just lost my dad in November and I’m so thankful I have so many pictures and videos of him but I’m still can’t talk about him without crying let alone look at all that stuff.

Soooo I know I’m late BUT I was talking to my friends about this. I was telling them I burned out on beauty content because the space is so saturated and dying. But I also felt stuck because I felt like that was my ‘niche’ though I have other passions. My good sis gave the BEST advice .. she said ‘YOU are your niche’ . Ugh. That helped so much. So I think as creators we should bring ALL sides of US to our platform ! We can pivot !

We all do collabs, friend mail, GRWMs, challenges, reviews, and my fave--- new makeup nonsense bingo! You all don't know what you're missing ;) we have a blast. I feel so lucky to have stumbled into it as a retired mua/hair stylist/esthetician/nail tech. 💕 I love our little community.

I agree with Laura on the statement 'we've seen it all' when it comes to beauty. On the flip side, I prefer RU-vid product reviews over Tiktok product reviews ❤️ I watched Manny's review of the YSL lipstick maker fancy-shmancy product and it was MMMMUCH more detailed and helpful than Meredith's (I LOVE HER, no shade, no hate) on Tiktok. But that's just me in a sea of millions 🤷‍♀️

I love to see the older beauty channels grow and have babies, that is what I love to see Watching people I have loved for years like Zoella, leighanne says, Emily Noelle, Jessica Braun ,carley, Nicole, Desi, shannxo, casey. Laura We have literally seen our favs fall in love, buy homes and businesses, have babies, go on vacation, clean up, buy groceries, declutter, cook and live daily lives is so interesting.

I feel like even though Laura switched to lifestyle, I love it! Lifestyle encompasses so much and is not competitive like the beauty community became.
