What’s crazy is that Saxton Hales taunt kill implies that just by cracking his knuckles he can kill people instantaneously

You have to keep in mind this update was made by two people, one valve employee and one contractor, working on it when time allowed. This wasn't some choice by the valve higher-ups. This was two people trying to show the higher ups tha passion and willingness of the community.

One thing I will note about the Australium plot point, while most australium’s were made buff and macho and stuff, santon wasn’t. When the australium runs out it shows they revert to normal… while saxton remains himself

A custom server being added into the base game is just fucking amazing. All those years playing Saxton Hale servers and having a lot of fun. What a blessing they have given us

Freak fortress is such a cool game. VSH was one of the best things to happen to tf2. Just because, it's another game mode.

Didn't make the connection that Hale was the creator of Jarate and the pills. Man's truly the innovator of an age and the very definition of "built different."

I'm imaging now, a gamemode of normal red vs blue, but, both sides had their own Hale. First to kill the other's wins. That sounds fun af. Edit: "That's just crasher," no, it's not just crasher. Crasher is differnet compared to just having Red Vs. Blue tdm until either side's Hale dies, you know, what I descirbed above. Not to mention, the new gamemode is official now and not seasonal compared to Crasher.

You missed out that Saxton Hale was heavily featured in the Mann v Machine update material (see also: "Attention, Cowards!" from October 2012, when they introduced the abandoning a game matchmaking consequences for example, or the fact that he's the banner image for the MvM FAQ page, and _his face is on the Tour of Duty tickets in the game)._ So you know, he was all through the 2012 TF2 material.

Imagine if they add in more NPCs as bosses in VSH especially when in VSH we’re working for the bad guys, Graymann, it would make sense for us to be hired to kill other characters like Miss Pauling or the Administrator as Bosses

It made me smile so much that Saxton Hale is getting this love from Valve. I can remember being in 4th (maybe 3rd) grade, talking to my friend about Saxton Hale and he's lore within the TF2 universe.

My first exposure to Saxton Hale ever was in Dasboschitt's Computer Quest, where he proves himself to be as equally strong as Gandalf the Grey and the Gandalf the White and Monty Python & the Holy Grail's Black Knight and Benito Mussolini and the Blue Meanie, Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie, Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk and Darth Vader, Lo Pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger, Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan, Spock, the Rock, Doc Ock and Hulk Hogan by throwing Chuck Norris into the Sun. It's impressive just about everything about him I've seen since has been as equally awesome.

Something with the impressions thing... Valve's done that in the past. When the Player Destruction mode was added, the "in the beam" line was done by the original creator of the map and is still in to this day. Also, as others have said, this update was put out by like two people, only one of which worked at Valve itself. We _could_ get the voice actors back in but I wouldn't bet on it. Frankly, I'm just glad this update exists-

I really hope Valve gets the mercenary voice actors back to voice the mercenaries...except the Solider, I do not think Valve has invented necromancy.........yet. They could get a professional impressionist for him though.

10:00 VSH is back and it works surprisingly well. I noticed only 1 bug after an hour of playing and that is that whenever a new player joins they're automatically assigned to the BLU team, but this doesn't really do anything since the player gets switched to the red team when a new round begins.

I personally believe their return to the game is a sign that something big is coming soon, maybe TF2 on source 2, maybe a tf3 (but named something different like TF: International or something). Either that or they're feeling out the community to see if they'd still be interested in fortress, and the answer is a clear yes

I think that Valve expected this level of broken code and lack of polish, and that's why they didn't do as much advertising.

VS Saxton Hale is an old game mode. It pairs the players up against Saxton Hale, an AI. It happened before MvM. I believe it was a mod for TF2, but it's been so long that I have my doubts. Saxton grew up near the Australium deposits. Unlike the locals that lived above the deposits, he lived close enough and grew up there to be affected by the mineral, after spending years there it had a permanent affect on him. The locals that lived above it were drastically changed but once the mined were depleted they reverted back to their old selves. Saxton however had grown up near it and it permanently changed him. He's smarter, stronger and faster than other people, even those who lived above the mines. The mineral itself has body altering properties. If newborns were to receive exposure to the raw or pure mineral for the same lifetime duration they would become like Saxton. The only difference is you would have the recipe for super soldiers or even get close to 40k Space Marines.

How are none of you talking about the fact that his chest hair is shaped like the map of Australia ? In the jungle inferno short, he even has Tasmania as an island on his left pec muscle.

I really want a skeleton cowboy with a fast and a strong melee and it can get a rope that can trap mercenaries to help himself and others and a bandit mask you can put on to rush bases. Also a double sheriff revolver, and it can also extend how much items you get and it will have a lot of high level guns (which is kinda rare). With this class releasing they could add mercenary coins with a custom options to buy coins - it will show the price. You will get 150/500 every kill, 500 MC mercenary coins) is random.

Considering Saxton Hale is one man army in Saxton Hale mode, he would be the most OP class ever

It's crazy that they added this mode to the game officially. Nostalgic because I used to run a pretty big server on this mode, years ago.

also: if you join an official VSH server and make it onto blu team (With Saxton Hale) the class select screen says that there's 1 heavy on the team (being Hale).

I was always out of the loop with the expanded community stuff so my introduction to Saxton Hale was Dasmatze's Heavy Birthday GMod machinima. It took a while for me to learn that he was a canon character and not something completely made up.

Side note, Richter: one of my very first Steam screenshots was a VSH match from 2013, where the players fought against Rainbow Dash Yep, good old days

I find it highly amusing, that in the wake of overwatch 2's complete and utter failure to give players the new game mode they were promise, valve straight up gave tf2 players a new asymmetrical gamemode, yeah its community made and has existed for over a decade in community servers but valve was under no pressure or even incentive to add this longtime fan favorite game offically, and yet they did it anyway. Granted the gameomde did not work for over a week but at least it is working now. Blizzard take notes that is how you please a playerbase.

I don't care for TF2 Updates. I just want the final chapter of the comic to come out.

damn i never really thought that its been so long that this update could be someone's first update experience.

vsh being added has me wondering what other community game modes could be added. Maybe some of the zombie game modes, or just some entirely new concept nobody has seen before like a payload marathon where both teams can push a singular cart but only the one that gets it to the end wins.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this update and the VSH maps added. I've played VSH and Freak Fortress on community servers on and off since 2014 and I never expected it to come into the mainstream. However, I think this is the jolt of life this game needs right now. Like MVM, its something drastically different from the typical TF experience. However, you know what would be absolutely rad? Getting the final TF comic issue, and it ties in this game mode. Saxton Hale turns on the mercs who just defeated the TFC mercs and it would be this final epic battle to save the Badlands. I'd also like some weapon balances too but right now I'm happy the game is still fun and the community so dedicated.

Hell yeah dude I used to play saxton servers every day in like 2011-2013. Never thought I would see it come back like this. Makes me wanna get on TF2 again maybe.

With V script, I hope this year's Scream Fortress would make a new modified version of HHH where a random player gets to use HHH like how VSH works but mix in a bit of fun like plr and each team has a player randomly turned to HHH and fight to the deal to feed the payload souls.

I really like the adjustments they did to the game mode. I hope they add more mini bosses like the horseless headless horseman or the Yeti for Screamfortess Shame though that they didn't do any announcements for it. A new sfm would have been nice

It's great to see a legendary community gamemode now official, I doubt we'll get to see the other old VSH bosses like the giant sniper or the horribly disfigured giant engineer but at least now casual players who didn't even know the community section existed can load into a VSH match and experience the same fun.

I started in 2020 so this is my first "big" update, its good to see the community being positive about anything at all. Also, maybe the update its not that good, but things are about to become a lot more interesting in this game, and thats what matters, bcs it was becoming pretty stale

im not someone who has been playing tf2 for a while, and i know who saxton hale is. i have seen videos on the gamemode, and i think its a really cool concept

i love that flip and head bonk are both taunt kills with hale, it just makes sense also rock paper scissors is the only good way to end a game of vsh
