Your Clergyman is Maliketh The BlackBlade I know that because i already did the Deathroots and begann fighting him as soon as you enter his arena in FarumAzula he beginns his small talk
I was adjusting my characters weight and seeing what armor or weapon to drop and all the sudden that loud scream and Boulder throw woke me up and caused me to flee out of the room. It’s fun seeing everyone’s comments knowing that it’s getting everyone the same way as it did me!
@@MODERN-GAMING-IS-TRASH ikr, i was just wondering did i accidently hit this dude, i don't remember coming close to him prior to that lol, he just roaring like a mad man
To me it’s “I can't hold on much longer. I'm going the way of the R-roundtable... It was a great honor to smith your weapons during my time here. Allow me to c-call you this, just once, before it ends. My lord, f-for that is what you are.”
I had I think 4/6 deathroot when I encountered him later on and he gave me an apology which was cool so I wonder if there’s a different dialogue for all or if it’s the same for each. Thanks for the heads up! I’ll check it once I get all 6 on a new character and see.
Maliketh has different dialogues when you finish his questline irc when you don't give him all the death root he calls you a witless tarnished but when you do give him all the deathroot he'll sound kinda disappointed in you and calls out Marika's name
I think the big deal about it is him saying that the Golden Order cannot be restored. Also interesting that he seems to remember his duty. When the player dies to him, he calls himself "The Black Blade" by default, but with all Death Root delivered, he calls himself "Black Blade of Marika". Now, if his relation to Marika is the same as Blaidd's is to Ranni, then wouldn't it make more sense for him to disown Marika if he remembers more, since Marika essentially betrayed the Greater Will, afaik? Or maybe it's an honor thing, daring to be associated with Marika after he kinda recollected the pieces of Destined Death and sorta fixed his mistake.
@@jawlingo6910 YESS, I noticed this too. Malikdth was Marika's "Shadow" like Blaidd was Ranni's shadow as stated in her quest line. He was also tasked with retrieving and containing all death since *Heavy Spoiler* Marika was responsible for shattering the elden ring and causing the rune of death to be miss used ? Does he have any connections with the black knives that killed godwyn ?
@@boristhebig3065 continuing on lore spoilers, he IS her brother, he was gifted the rune of Destined Death by marika, a Piece of the elden ring she removed from herself, since she is the elden ring, removing death itself from the world, making her the eternal queen after, she told him to safeguard it, he failed, ranni stole it and killed her favorite son, godwyn, soul wise so that she could kill her body but still leave her soul in the world, which made the two half runes of death we can collect in game. so when he regains his memory a bit, he knows why things cant be the same anymore, he knows why he is supposed to safeguard that rune, and is trying to make amends, unfortunately, we need it to burn the erdtree since death is contained it will not burn. once we have released it to the world, death returns, the erdtree burns granting access to its inner part, and ash falls on the city below.
@@boristhebig3065 the black knives were ranni's doing. I forgot the reasoning but there's a whole lore video and that was part of it, since she stole death, she made a blade out of it and gave it to female assassins who become the black blades who kill godwyn
Pretty tragic character. He was loyal to his queen to the very end but it seems that he was unwittingly betrayed by her in the end and she felt the need to keep her betrayal a secret from him because she knew the extent of his loyalty. Even to the very end he protects Destined Death in a somewhat futile situation.
But Marika needed to betrayed him. The Greater Will (I played in spanish so I dont know if thats the name of the god in english XD) put Maliketh to be her bodyguard because he didnt trust her, so Maliketh would kill her if she betray the order. The same thing goes for Blaidd to Renna (I dont know why they change her name to Ranni in spanish)
@@MrFallenone She also hooked countless players into thinking her end was the "good" end. Despite her being responsible for the shattering and orchestrating everything.
It's interesting doing this AFTER coming across him the second time. After I had beaten the game & got the final Deathroots. I went back and was surprised to see him. Apparently, due to where you meet him the second time, it's in a different "time zone" or whatever. So, pretty funny thing to do after the fact.
@@JP-hg4kt They are the same person. Not only indicated by the fact that everything the boss does in terms of skills can be optained here but also by the fact that they have the same character model, the same sealed death rune on their arm and when u beat the game and visit him again at night he is outside of the building screaming at the tree.
what a chad. eats all the manifestations of Death that he can, drops a diss track on the Queen of the land, doesn't explain anything, turns into a Force Ghost
After he disappears from feeding them all to him, sit at the grace, and then he will be outside to the left. He has more dialog and then disappears again(and for those who have beat the game know the rest)
As an aside, he’ll also drop the ancient dragon smithing stone if you kill him - in the event that you simply didn’t want to finish the quest but wanted the reward
@@ananimeconnoisseur7594 No, you will not. Avoid killing if you want the spells - although I think the amount of deathroot you need to feed him is not = to the exact amount needed for all of the spells, so you could get your spells and *then* kill him early
The most awful part of Maliketh/Gurranq’s story is that there is no end to it. Killing Maliketh just causes him to return in the Bestial Sanctum as Gurranq. Thus, this implies that the only thing to his life is a cycle of mental and physical anguish occasionally broken up by a moment of clarity. That’s fucking soulcrushing, especially when compared to other souls bosses. At least they actually have their suffering ended when you kill them, for Maliketh, it’s just prolonged further.
After watching so many speedruns where he says the same thing over and over again upon reaching his boss battle, I did NOT expect to feel so bad after giving him all the deathroots and hearing his special dialogue in my own (2nd) playthrough.
Im calling it: We will have a DLC centered around Those who Live in Death and Demi-humans/ Werewolf n Shit. Maybe more lore about all the Blood spells and stuff
With how good Elden Rings' dragon abilities are compared to most of the Soul's line of games, I would love to see a beast like transformation spell or weapon like the claws from BloodBorne so I'd be on board entirely!
Uuuuuuh Ailing Loran, anybody? They’ve literally dropped teasers of another iteration of the beast scourge in Deracine. The blood arts, the roots, those who live in death, the beasts the ashen blood. The Oedon (pronounced Erden) communion. There’s just a lot that was dumped in the lands between.
I beat the boss version of him and wondered what was there after the fight only to scream when I loaded he threw rocks in my face. Scared the piss out of me. 😭
@@Xnvasxve Not only does this guy reference things only Maliketh should know, but also he has the amulet that contains the death rune wraped around his hand. When you later fight him at farum azula it's most likely a future version of him, since Farum Azula is outside of time, he also changes his dialogue as Maliketh if you feed him all the death roots.
This guy and Blaidd need to get together and party. Did anyone else find him howling at the moon at night, and just kind of let him get his crazies out while the black blade kindred stood there, hoping it wouldnt be noticed and killed by this crazy wolf man?
he turns into Nick avocado after eating all death root. Lore stuff, death root is just veggies, thats why Beast clergy (Nick Avocado) is so hungry and why you need to keep feeding him. Then when you gave him everything he gets pissed later in the game and tries to eat you , but if you wear the Mushroom headpiece =, the immunity booster one. He cant attack you an does no damage, but you need to throw oil pots at him then drop white flesh. he will eat the flesh an you can hit him while he is stunned.
I missed soooo much on my 1st playthrough, im nearing the end of it. Just beat maliketh and godskin duo. Gotta hit up malenia yet and then the big guy. Gonna finish up and then restart my adventure and platinum it this time around. Such a great game its insane how much replayability it has
@@NoneKnowing i was running sword of n/f until the capital, and then 2 days later it got nerfed so thankfully i switched my build up. Fun fact if you give him all the death runes malekith gives you another opening line "tarnished why would thy.." which kinda maybe proves that he is malekith as he regocnises us
@@ImGonnaHeadOut i think the gurranq Version in crumbling darum azula is actually from the future. When godwyn died, The rune of death broke into many parts, aka deathroot. Gurranq in caelid wants you to them, so that he can recreate the rune of death. And maliketh in farum azula has the death rune, which is why you beat his goddamn ass. He's really thicc too.
He started attacking me out’of nowhere after the 3rd deathroot, I didn’t even touch him. Gave him the deathroot, rested at the bonfire to equip the ability he gave and got bonked in the back out of knowhere…
If all else fails, attack him till he resets! Once he hits a certain HP point he disappears and reappears back at his original spawn point and apologizes then goes back to his normal self!
@@spazbomb it’s definitely a huge scare when it first happens since of how early you can actually encounter him so hopefully now you can finally bring him back to his NPC state!
@@thelionofjudah5318 Nope, that doesn't cause aggro, the sole reason aggro happens is because when fed a certain amount of deathroot, he will become aggressive and you have to fight him for a little bit until he stops and regains his wits.
I would have loved it if FromSoft made it more noticeable when opponents yield during a fight. Gurranq tackled me full force and started swinging so the only logical response was swing back ten times harder and killed him. The same with Patches, little bitch started crying for forgiveness while i was mid swing with my +6 Bloodhounds Fang.
No offense, but both enemies have a lot of health left when they yield. It seemed pretty obvious to most people that they were yielding. You can't be swinging your sword like a psychopath lmao
@@shizzledink Patches was my bad, true but still, fuck Patches. Gurranq on the other hand didn't even start talking, nothing at all. I just kept swinging and he kept running at me like a rabid squirrel. I only found out he yields from RU-vid. Is there a scenario where he just doesn't stop attacking?

@@xcal789 in your editing software you should be able to enhance the audio right? I remember that i tried to kill him but i was so underleveled so i ran away .. many hours later i reached azula and i was like when i beat that boss ill come back to face him to get my revenge ..i didn't knew lol
It looked like he died but you still fight him in Farum Azula. Not to mention if you fight him in Farum Azula before giving him all the death roots, he still stays there in his temple.
When I saw Malaketh I came bsck here and killed him in a blind rage that he'd betray me. Felt kinda bad when that didn't magically kill the boss Fun fact, if you kill Morgot without fighting Margit, Margit dies and you can technically skip Margit and go fight Godrick without him in the way (very useless but cool)
Elden Ring lore knowledge, like the lore knowledges of Soulsborne at large, has always been the culmination of a thousand people reading a thousand little books but with exponentially many subtle differences, cross references, refutations and confirmations according to who and how many adventure and travel deep and far enough to retrieve the precious information. From the Finger Maidens, to the Round Table, to the armour and item inscriptions, to the very state and aesthetics of settlements and armaments. FromSoft delivers scale, story & richness with a Combination of minimalism & elegance meeting the fogs of war and the themes of alchemy tied to The Whims of Outer Gods, all topped off with classical mortal foibles. Truly beautiful. Or if you’re Shadiversity: “it’s objectively bad story telling”. Ok bro.
A good story telling game is best when it actively engages your audience and Fromsoft has so far not dropped the ball in its massive story with variation timelines! I love reading into item descriptions for tidbits of area lore it's good fun.
@@xcal789 it has also been the most accessible and actively delivered story I’ve ever experienced in a FS game. @@ShahbazBokhari the fact that we were given the main twist of Marika and Radagon being the same being with an emote blew me away when I was watching lore videos.
