I’m trying to lose weight. I’ve had two babies and am pretty overweight at this point. I’m trying to maintain eating 1500 cal a day to lose, but without tracking I’d consume between 2000-2500 typically.

They eat lots of veggies and fresh foods. I can honestly tell you your body responds differently to 1200kcal of healthy food, than it does to 1200kcal of processed foods. Not all foods are equal.

Yes people forget about the CO part of CICO. People who eat high fiber from whole foods like vegetables can eat more and maintain.

As an interpreter/translator let me say- 2 hours to translate a full video script from Japanese to English is pretty good, nice job!! It's clear from your finished videos that you're not just translating word for word, and you're also not just jumping on the very first translation you come up with. You're sifting through multiple options and variations of words and expressions, and coming up with the most natural and conversational way of expressing what you want to say in English. If you keep going about it as diligently as you are, I think you can safely stop worrying about whether you'll make yourself understood. Great stuff! (Btw, I hate mornings and I eat the most at dinner. I wish it weren't so, though!)

But a calorie is also not a calorie: you can eat loads of vegetables and wfpb food, and slim down. Her diet is very very healthy. Especially in the morning. And just feeling when you had enough, everybody is different, needs different things. And genetic makeup is also important.

For sure, every time I go back to Japan I end up losing some weight even though I indulge in a lot of food (fried food and snacks included). I believe this is due to smaller portions and walking a ton. Not to mention the typical Japanese meals tend to be healthier.

@@elised5152 bullshit! If you overeat and don't exercise, it doesn't matter how healthy your food is, you'll still be fat lol. Just look at sumo wrestlers, they eat very healthy and exercise, but because they eat so much they still gain weight.

People always use the excuse of "asian people are naturally thin it's just genetics" but that's not entirely true.. the diet differences between asian food and american food is insanely different

If I ate 2050calories in a day I'd be fat. I have to stick to 1200calories and do aerobic exercise (jogging and biking) in order to stay a decent shape. Last winter because of COVID-19, I didn't go to the gym all winter and my calories eaten/day crept up to 1500. Consequently I gained 10lbs! I'm 5'4" which would be slightly tall for a Japanese woman. Genetics is definitely at play here! That said, pretty sure many Americans regularly eat more than 2050calories per day. Bottom line - don't make excuses, but also don't beat yourself up if you can't "eat like a Japanese woman" and lose weight.

@@n.b.3521 Same. I start gaining weight if I eat over 1600 calories and it matters also what I eat. If I eat 1500 calories but still include bread, pasta, rice, I still gain weight.

I've lived in Japan and they are not in balance anymore than anyone else. Their work/drinking culture is absolutely terrible.

Also keep in mind the average Japanese person don’t regularly work out to the point of sweating. They walk more but rarely do high intensity exercise. Gyms and sports are pretty expensive to partake in regularly in Asia.

actually japanese walk a LOT which is way more beneficial to human health than intense work out like murican love to do. They are also on average smaller in frame and height than european/african which explain why they need to eat less.

It's not really a secret, you eat lots of vegetables. And you don't eat a lot of greasy food or sugary drinks. Very healthy food! You eat a lot of tofu, so many americans think tofu is bad, but Japanese traditionally eat tofu almost every day.

When I visited Japan, I opted to eat what was advertised as the traditional Japanese breakfast: small piece of fish, small bowl of rice, miso soup, and a couple varieties of vegetables (usually fermented). Since I'm not Japanese, I don't know for sure if this is what's common for breakfast in Japan, but it was wonderful! I felt full and energized, allowing me to walk and tour Japan's gardens and temples the entire day without finding the need to snack - and I was in my second trimester of pregnancy! It's been more than a year since that trip, but I have incorporated fish and fermented foods into my breakfast. At times I try to recreate what I had in its entirety, because I do think that the combo of fermented foods, high quality protein, veggies, and small portion of carbs is great for consistent energy levels throughout the day.

She eats a very healthy diet, though. LOTS of Japanese people don't lol. There are a lot of fast and fried foods in Japan that are very popular. She really isn't the norm, she is health conscious. I love her diet but it's not why Japanese people are slim. There are a lot of factors.

@@Nikki_the_G I've lived in Japan for 30 years. My wife is Japanese, she cooks like Miwa. Most housewives do. Yes, there are a lot of fast food restaurants, but on average Japanese people eat out about once a week.

Wow! The breakfasts don't look like they're full of sugar which is a large problem here in the states. Most people have insane amounts of sugar and bread in the mornings, and it usually tastes really bland. While you people eat healthy and full meals for breakfast while staying quite slim! I'm very impressed!

The thing is, u could eat healthy foods all u want, but its still calories. So if u eat too much or dont burn it off, u are going to gain weight regardless

@@rtgbhreth But within that framework, you get a lot more nutrition (vs empty calories), and the volume is also more than if it were 1000 calories or whatever of something unhealthy. Calories are a tool, but it's definitely not the most important thing.

You should try congee! It is a Chinese rice porridge usually eaten in the morning. I first tried it on a cruise (where most of the employees were asian) and the taste reminded me a lot of chicken noodle soup. I had two bowls every morning, after that for the rest of the cruise ha, ugh so good!!

I’ve never liked American breakfast as breakfast, it just eaves me feeling gross. I basically would do homemade oatmeal, smoothies, protein shakes, or no breakfast at all. When I discovered Japanese breakfast, my whole life changed 😂

Your videos are easy to understand (I'm in United States), my doctor says I need to change my diet, so I've started eating traditional Japanese breakfasts with miso/rice/egg/vegetable and no sausage. I hate getting up in the morning, I wake up late, but I'm enjoying making Japanese breakfast. I usually use the leftover rice for onigiri for lunch

I made food "fun". I started alternating weekly between vegetarian diet (avoiding fake meats thought), Japanese diet (lots of fish), Korean diet (spicy options), and Mediterranean diet (lots of flavor!) And noticed that it felt effortless and exciting too to look up different recipes and experiment with different spices and ingrediets. The weight started to come off slowly without feeling guilty.

Culture: Daily exercises and lots of walking, cook at home, mindset of eating for healthy body Food: Low fat, tons of veggies, lots of variety, few sweets ... these are the same things the American FDA and dietitians recommend, but we eat more for pleasure and treat ourselves often. I like the idea of how food and exercise is done in Japanese and French schools - I think the change would be hugely impactful for the health of Americans.

Sorry to break if to you but a low fat diet is actually extremely unhealthy. That was once a lie we we’re being fed. A diet rich in healthy fats is essential for a healthy body because our body is primarily made of fat. We need lots of cholesterol and saturated fats from healthy grass fed/ pasture raised animals.

A well balance diet with good fat is important, but the fat murican eat is far from good fat XD also intense strenious work out like murican love is bad for the health in long term compare to just walk a lot and move around like human were meant to as a species. But well always in search for excuses not to be healthy. it's genetics, it's money, it's culture...

Thank you so much for sharing your life! I am half Japanese (mother) and have enjoyed Japanese food my whole life, I am now 65. I love how you include so many vegetables in your meals, your children are growing up strong and healthy! Wonderful how they so politely enjoy your crackers out of beautiful chawans. I'm extremely surprised by the calorie count in the meals. Makes me feel like I'm doing ok then. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish we did these videos all around the world. It sheds so much light on different cultures just seeing what they eat. It shows us how similar we are, and also, the few tiny differences.

It's good to remember though that Asian people, especially in Japan, naturally don't make as much insulin as Caucasian people so they arn't able to store as much fat as we do. Which is a big reason they are generally slim, though it does mean they are more at risk for diabetes at a much lower weight. Keep it up! But remember that they can generally eat more than us.

The diff is not so much the calories but eating the whole plant as opposed to processed food. You noticed more than 95% of all the food was whole and not processed.

Japan has been my latest food obsession. Especially as a long time vegan I'm super interested in exploring the less obvious stuff. Thanks to you I've ordered and now am using shio koji, so cool and easy. Ordered natto from a company in New York. Takes some getting used to but that connected me to japanese mustard. It just keeps going! I love it 😀 thanks again!

I made this for lunch today however I substituted the tuna for some left over roast chicken I had. It was delish! Thank you so much. I’m trying to have smaller and more veggie heavy meals and this makes it so easy. A small amount goes a long way 👍

I totally resonate you!!!!! I've never be able to cut carbs ( especially the rice) out of my diet! I do two things for this! haha 1; add seeds and peas more into the carbs. in my case, I make rice with multiple kinds of beans and seeds. 2; Serve it into small bowl or plate. let myself have another serving! 3; Make soups along with carbs! this video might help^^ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MX56cU9FNo.html

Ya thats a problem. There where 700 calorie meals full of protein and fiber that should keep you full and thats the point. Quit eating bowls of Noodles and you will be fine.

In the japanese kitchen some dishes are heavily seasoned because they are supposed to be eaten along with rice which balances the flavour. Without rice or other bland foil these dishes might become too strong tasting. So for japanese low carbers and japanese diabetics it's popular to replace rice with a bland tasting food that can be a "carrier type food" for these other dishes. In Japanese low-carb circles, the most popular bland rice replacement food is plain tofu. Other low carb items popular in japan are shirataki noodles, konnyaku and okara. Another option is looking at it from the positive point of view. As long as you eat carbs in moderation you can have them. Some other people can't even have them in moderation.

I love this, thankyou so much for sharing. I'm really struggling to eat, everything just seems to be making me feel worse, or irritating my gut or genuinely disgusting these days. here in the UK (and many Western countries) we often have unhealthy breakfasts, overly sweet cereals which just give you a temporary sugar high or too much starchy white bread or even both - I struggle to imagine eating rice or vegetables for breakfast as its such a strange concept for me at the present time, but I can see that it is much healthier and probably offers a slow release of nutrition and energy instead of the sugar high and resulting sugar crash later in the morning which is not good - I also have the bad habit of snacking on sweet and unhealthy foods, which give a brief burst of sugary energy and then yet another sugar crash - it's no wonder people can have mood swings during the day! - it's so hard to beat the sugar cravings also

I found out that cucumbers give you energy without the crash! I'm not the biggest fan of the taste or texture so I started blending them into a juice and just chugging it with some water. Gets it over with quickly but with all the benefits 🙂

I have English heritage so I understand the difficulties changing the cultural norms around breakie. When I first started I switched to wholemeal bread for toast and had had one slice with banana and honey/jam. Warmed berries and a drop of yoghet on wholemeal toast. Instead of the sugary cereal I switched to heating fruits like apple and pear in honey in a pot adding 1/2 a serve of oats and strewing that till cooked. Then started getting creative with the non sweat breakfast, like focusing on one element of a big breakfast to put it on a smaller scale.

If you eat a sugary breakfast, your body will have a lot more sugar cravings ! Sugar calls sugar ! You should really try eating salty breakfast, your insulin level will thank you 😄

I also used to sleep with my children. Right until end of primary actually. My husband volunteered to sleep in the other room, which was also better for his schedule of work. I appreciate it in Mothers who do it. It is so important to the kids. They will feel safer and cared for. And makes them very comfortable.

We do the same, my hubby is african and it's normal for their culture that children sleep with the mum and the dad sleeps in a separate room, I think it's sad that western culture frown upon bed sharing it promotes such a loving bond with the kids and they'll always sleep knowing I'm there and their safe ❤
