I like how Draco isn't a flat out enemy in this series, they're not "friends" per ce, but more friendly rivals..... of course this will affect later book plots but I think for the better

I want to see how Draco reacts to Harry getting called from the goblet. Does he get as jealous as Ron? Does Harry try to mend that friendship? Does the schism between Harry and Ron not get mended because of it?

@@yaysteele I think both actually will be pretty ok with it, yeah it may strain the relationship between Ron and Harry, but in this series Ron is not as much in the shadow of Harry, he is more beside him and competing against him (Quidditch). When it comes to Draco, I can see it go both ways, but honestly since he has a different story than Ron I personally don't see it affect him in such a strong way that it did to Ron, but that's just my personal theory.... guess we'll see later

when J said Draco would pass out when Dementors entered the train, i immediately screamed TAKE HIM TO THE LUPIN LESSONS HARRY!!! then had a broad smile when it actually happened! 😌 *EDIT* : i'm already looking ahead to the HBP video, and i feel like Draco is gonna confide in Harry about Voldemort's order to kill Dumbledore!

There actually is evidence that Ginny was affected by the dementors. On the train, once Harry regains consciousness, he sees Hermione and Ron staring at him and Ginny is curled up whimpering so Hermione comforts her. So it fits that Draco would have gone to pieces.

Just imagine what that experience was like for Ginny, given what she went through. Just months after being possessed by the most evil wizard of all time, after being (indirectly) responsible for hurting people and nearly killing Harry, she had to relive it all over again. Her first year at Hogwarts was even worse than Harry's. Mind you, the first years during Voldemort's reign of terror take the cake there, since they were tortured with the Cruciatus curse.

Ginny likely still would have been affected by the Dementors even in this new timeline. She still was the one who originally had the diary, and as such Voldemort was still in her mind for a big part of the time of the second book. So, quite possibly in this new timeline, Harry, Draco, and Ginny may have all passed out which may have brought the three of them together as a Silver Trio. This is especially interesting considering SCB's video on Ginny being in Slytherin. Harry and Ron still ended up best friends at the beginning of the first book even with Harry being put in Slytherin; that in itself would have changed Ron's views of Slytherin, so Ginny herself may not have been as ashamed to be in Slytherin either, so in this timeline, we still have the Golden Trio, but we also gain a Silver Trio.

idea: Sirius sees Peter on the Map, points it out to Harry, but Harry can't see him, making him distrust Sirius even more! i think Harry could've overcome this obstacle either way, but this would've been a fun twist to the story if they chose to do it that way!

That theory… Really doesn’t hold up in the main continuity as well, since I’m pretty sure Snape only managed to find Lupin because of the map, which meant that Snape would have been able to see Lupin, one of the Marauders

The theory is that the Marauders will show up if the map thinks that a Marauder is looking at it. So they could be standing there with other people and all of the other Marauders will still show up. Or, in the case of Snape finding the map in Lupin's office, the map thought that it was Lupin that was standing there because he had unlocked the map.

Draco is replacing Ginny in every single way and Harry is effecting Draco's life more than his own by being a fellow Slytherin instead of a rival Gryffindor so Draco also being the endgame love interest makes perfect sense

@@rebel11201991 I thought about that too and all that changes in that timeline is Harry and Draco still staying enemies much like in the original timeline and Harry spends even less time with Ron and Hermione because Ravenclaw house never (weirdly even in the original timeline) ever have classes with Gryffindor house.

I’d like to believe that Dumbledore would still have a plan. After all, he put arguably as much faith in Snape (a Slytherin) as he did in Harry. Plus, I think Dumbledore would take even greater triumph in having two people from Voldemort’s own house bring him down.

Since the map likely pinpoints magical signatures, I would assume that it WOULD show two different locations for Harry and Hermione. It’d be interesting if Dumbledore was left with the map after the big confrontation and saw the time travelers, thus knowing what needed to be done.

Draco is more likely to pass out than Ginny because he has the added weight of both *actively buying into* Riddle's lies (where Ginny was tricked) and having to reassess his convictions and his stance on Voldemort (where the possession strengthened Ginny's convictions). He wouldn't have the same mental or emotional reserves that Ginny would at that time. And with no siblings, he also has less of a support network at Hogwarts.

As for harry passing out due to trama, one year old is too young to have any memory, but that memory is very traumatic for someone else, voldemort. My head cannon is that the screaming and green flash vision is the piece of voldemorts soul reliving his worst memory, he describes it as the worst thing to ever happen to him in book 7 when harry and hermione escape in godrics hollow.

That's what I'm thinking. I thought it was revealed somewhere that Harry was affected by dementors so strongly precisely BECAUSE of the second soul shard within him. Effectively get twice the dose he would have gotten otherwise.

Actually, as far back as book 1 we know Harry DOES have some memory of it, because when he strains hard, he remembers a flash of green light, which he assumes is the "car crash" his aunt and uncle told him about as the cause of his parents death.

The only part I take issue with is Ron's quidditch abilities. One he's just not a good seeker, being tall and skillwise, two: in the books he's too nervous to be good at first until he finds some confidence, so he wouldn't have that in his second year either

I agree, maybe Ginny would be a better fit? She's smaller, she is a seeker at one point in the books and pretty good and it wouldn't not matter about her being a first year because Harry breaks that precedent the year before, so it's only fair that first years get to play across the board. The interesting thing would be that she has a crush on Harry and would later be under Voldemort's control. This would also give her a more prominent role in the second book as well as the third for this version of events. Plus, it would still develop Ron as now he has to worry about his sister playing against Harry.

I think it makes since as Ron would have less nervous. He wod be the golden boy of griffidor for his year as Harry is in another house. He would even be famous for being Harry s friend more then he was in the og canon. I think he would be much more confident in this timeline of events.

Ron will not be as nervous as he was in the books. Bcoz he wanted to live upto Harry's reputation and he always felt like a shadow of Harry . In this version he doesn't feel like that

I wonder if Ron is likely to move to Keeper now Wood has left the team as puberty means he is likely to have outgrown the seeker build, and he will feel that Ginny is a better seeker as he doesn't believe he deserved his wins, however he should now be less nervous as he started playing earlier when there would have been less expectation on him. (people will be happy when a 12 year old wins them the match, but are unlikely to have blamed him for games he lost against older players) - wonder if he makes Captain in his 5th year as he is more of a strategist than Harry was and Angelina has her Newts, so if he has shown skill in strategy they might go for him (though would McGonagal be happy with him having the responsibility of Captain and Prefect in his OWL year?).

I think Half-Blood Prince is going to be extremely interesting (assuming the same people head to the Ministry as before). On one hand: Harry just sent Draco's father to Azkaban, which could make Draco rethink his opinion on Harry, on the other hand, Draco has learned throughout the years that although he might disagree with Harry on some things, Harry is by no means a person who wishes to harm people, and has not only saved his life before, but has now brought him along to special lessons that are designed to help him fight his biggest fear.

I kind of like Draco's redemption in this What If scenario. I always felt like he was the one character who was most misunderstood and most in need of a redemption arc. He and Harry to me were basically two sides of the same coin.

@@glumanteri Well he was misunderstood. He was never fully bad he just had a family legacy to protect and a reputation behind him. He swaggers around with all the bravado thinking he is superior to all because that's what he has been taught by his family but when stuff became too real and he was tasked with some way more adult that he should be dealing with like oh yeah MURDERING THE HEADMASTER we finally see that underneath all the swagger and bravado he is just a scared little boy who will do anything and everything to win his father's approval and the approval of those with power only to realise that nothing he does will ever impress them and it only leads to chaos and destruction and hurting innocents. I always had my own headcanon that Lucius was neglectful and very absent as a parent and possibly even abusive and that's why Draco was always so determined to impress his father and always tried to use his father's presence in the wizarding world as a threat because he was a scary figure but only to Draco.

about Sirius attacking Gryffindor tower--I'm pretty certain he was just trying to break in using the knife he later gifts Harry--the one that can open any lock. He knew he didn't have the password, but thought maybe the knife would work. I'd love to hear anyone's theories on why the knife didn't work on the portrait of the Fat Lady, though!

Here's a thought as part of this theory: Lucius turns on Voldemort. I know the Malfoys are disloyal to a fault, but they are staunchly protective of their own family, and I don't think Lucius will be pleased with the fact that his master tried to kill his son.

I don't think they should've had that deleted scene where Draco throws Harry the wand, but SOMETHING should've been there to show that Draco was just a victim of circumstance. It's what they TRIED to do anyways, but fail miserably.

Lucius is the slimy sort that is attracted to power and influence. He'd turn on Voldemort as long as he thought that Harry could be a greater dark wizard. Once it becomes clear to him that isn't the case, he would just as easily turn back and pretend he was loyal to Voldemort all along. Lucius is slime and even endured a lot in the books as they were, for his love of status. Narcissa, however, should be greatly affected by this. We haven't seen her yet in this timeline, but it could be interesting when we do.

I had a thought that the trio wouldn't have gone to Hagrids because Hagrid would have waited since it's too dangerous for Harry to be out after dark with Sirius on the loose. Then I thought about it and I agree Hagrid would have had them come since it was Ron's pet. I can just imagine Hagrid... "I had to get scabbars back to Ron. He was so scared....shaking and squeaking....he needs his papa."

no way, in that scenario Draco's Boggart is definitely either the Basilisk or Tom, whichever aspect of that incident was more traumatizing for him. His boggard being a dementor makes sense. Its a similar situation as of why harry's boggard is a dementor too and not straight up voldemort. Because the dementor is a creature that can straight up grab those moments of trauma and make them feel how they felt in that moment. The same terror. Tom riddle appearing would make him scared of course but i would bet it wouldnt be as scared as he was in the actual chamber. A dementor can make him feel that way and he knows it since it already happened in the train. Just look at harry, with each encounter with voldemort he fears him less and less but with dementors that doesnt matter because if they grab you you would feel that same terror regardless

How is experiencing fear has anything to do with Gryffindor Material lol? people can have either the same fear or different ones, just because harry fears dementors in third year doesn't mean Draco can't either, he can, and honestly, it just depends, which is worst, seeing the basilisk/tom with the diary or relieving the events again in more traumatic fashion thanks to the dementor's presence, so again, just because harry can fear dementors instead of voldemort, doesn't mean Draco can't fear Dementors either.

If he’s in Slytherin does he even take Divination? In the main story Percy advises him to consider it and he ultimately takes it because Ron takes it. Without speaking to Percy and without Ron to go through it with him I am doubtful he would take it.

1 thing that just hit me... if Lucius sent Riddle's Diary to Hogwarts... and the result of that was Draco very nearly dying... ...and Narcissa discovers that truth... ...does divorce technically exist in the wizarding world? or would she simply take Draco & move out? either way, I'm not so sure Draco would be spending much of Christmas break with Lucius, especially if Narcissa is not in the room, especially if Lucius is verbally abusing him about the broken Firebolt... instead of being grateful that Draco didn't die when he fell off the Firebolt... that Lucius bought for him! Dang, almost killing his own son twice in just a few months... Yeah, actually, with that in mind, there's no way Narcissa is allowing Draco to be with Lucius during Christmas break.

Narissa takes Draco with her to 12 Grimmauld Place (the old family home) during the summer holidays to spend time away from Lucius, when suddenly, they bump into Sirius! But, assuming Harry shares the news about the night of Peter's escape with Sirius (since they we both doing special classes with Lupin, Draco would wonder why Lupin had to leave, and maybe Harry would want to share his success story with the Patronus), Draco would likely convince his mother that Sirius isn't dangerous. Then they could all spend the Summer together, Draco would learn more about the terrible thing Voldemort has done, Narissa and Sirius would have time to reconnect, making her less likely to be loyal to Voldemort and her sister, etc. (I don't think it really matters if some people know that Sirius is innocent, since by at least OotP all of the Order and the Death Eaters know he is innocent, so it wouldn't really change much in that regard.)

If Draco is disowned, Narcissa would turn her back on the rest of her family to be with her son. I already like how the final act plays out way more, cause you're showcasing Harry's Slytherin side. THOUGH I do wish you had kept in ONE big moment from Severus here...When he protected the kids from Lupin. Severus saving and protecting the kids from a deranged werewolf IS the moment, THE MOMENT that causes fans of the movies AND books to go "Um....but like wait a moment though I thought he was the bad guy?" and it's so PRAISED because it's what the books NEEDED for Snape. Even as a fan of Snape, even though I do think he is indeed VERY complex, I can't help but wish MOVIE Severus was BOOK Severus. As in this is what he SHOULD'VE been like; a morally gray character not just someone who seemed like an outright villain until SURPRISE he isn't. Because the books didn't really do him much justice until the 11th hour. So removing that pivotal moment FOR Severus just feels off. BUT other than that nitpick another MARVELOUS retelling...THESE ARE SO GOOD.

Despite Snape being the head of house I think he would've still avoided having much of a relationship with Harry despite what was necessary to fulfill his duties. Harry still reminds him of his parents too much.

@@Mattttlantis That makes sense, but you can only avoid someone in your house SO much before it just is impossible. There are ample times in these rewrites to give them that moment that just aren't there. The Bridge scene perhaps, could've been Harry and Severus for example. Maybe have Severus explain to Harry why he couldn't sign it, maybe have him be the one to mention Lily. He sees Harry a LOT now, he'd have to be reminded of her EVERY DAY. He already was reminded of her when Harry was in Gryffindor, so now with him being in Slytherin, and Harry showing Severus what kind of person he is, I don't think there'd be room for so much animosity between teacher and student. Especially since they're going through the trouble of having Harry pluck up the courage to ask his Head of House anyways. They should follow up on that. You know?

@@magica3526 right? it's very easy to showcase Severus being a proper head of house, being the one to look after the kids despite kind of hating the kids....I was SO WAITING for one such moment but alas. With Harry showing more and more who he really is, there's really no excuse to not have those BONDING MOMENTS in. Like honestly some of my favorite moments in ANY really well written Severitus fic (the familyship name for Harry and Severus NOT a romantic ship come on people) is when Severus FINALLY calls Harry....Harry. Yes I know Professors call students by their last name, but the reason why Harry being called HARRY by Severus is important; in fics it showcases one Sev being able to CARE about Harry, and two, distancing Harry from James.

Sirius and Lucius were at school at the same time so Lucius should know Although whether or not he managed to tell Draco that particular little detail I don't know but it seems like he told Draco about the whole story so it probably would have been mentioned like how they were best friends and in the same house and stuff to make the betrayal all them all the spicier

In fact it seems even more likely that Narcissa told him about her family. So I'm leaning towards yes. But would that mean Draco would have been told as a child that Sirius never joined Voldemort? Also like Clay said Narcissa would have told him that it was because he was in Gryffindor that he was removed from the family tree.

I think Draco must've known. He knew Sirius was the one who betrayed Harry's parents, why would his parents tell him that but not that he was in Gryffindor? Also, it seems friendships between Slytherins and Gryffindors were kinda rare, so even if Draco's parents hadn't mentioned Sirius' house of their own accord I think Draco might've asked. Bottom line, if I were writing a fanfic I'd have him know.

Amazing and very well put together! Some thoughts: I feel like removing Draco as Harry’s enemy leaves a void in Harry’s day to day struggles. Maybe another older Slytherin or Crabbe and Goyle disgruntled by Malfoy’s change of heart could take up that role. Or Cormac Mclaggen, or Seamus honestly. Somebody has to keep Harry on his toes. Another thing that I think would have been a huge difference in this alternate universe is Ginny very easily could have been sorted into Slytherin as well (considering all the reasons listed in one of your own videos as well as her infatuation with Harry who would have already been sorted into it, removing at least a bit of the stigma)

I do like this idea, but it feels like you're not taking the time to give Harry and Snape more moments to interact. Harry is now in Slytherin, Snape is HEAD of Slytherin House. You'd think they'd have quite a bit more opportunity to interact with each other and understand each other a bit more...all the while Harry would still keep to the Slytherin traits of being shrewd, cunning, and wary vs reckless. Because a major aspect of the series is Harry can't trust Snape, a big point of these "what if" fanfics of Harry being in Slytherin, is that it hurts all the more when he finally DOES trust Snape, and Snape has to kill Albus. It's just gut wrenching. Because now we know Severus does care, but he can't show it.

This is another point. We are really missing out on some Harry/Snape unwilling bonding. I really doubt they would go this long with that much contact without Snape having to face his biases against Harry head one. For one, going into Slytherin is the most ANTI-James thing Harry could do, instantly shattering the 'you're just like your father' grounding for his distaste.

As much as I like this idea, Snape is ultimately just adopting Mcgonagall’s role, and she doesn’t have any moments with Harry either. If anything, Snape is simply witnessing Harry developing first hand, which we may see have effect further on in Order.

I think this is something that can be mentioned when it becomes more relevant later on. I don't think Snape's and Harry's interactions are that important in the early years and I also think that Snape would still be keeping his distance from Harry - he is after all James' son as much as he is Lily's, so Snape would be torn on the issue and I think not being actively mean to Harry is the most he's capable of.

I really am loving this series and your plot points for this AU. Seriously if you wrote a fanfic for each book, I'd pay money to read it. One it'd creative and I agree with practically all of it but also 2, the realistic aspect: like you accurately predict certain events that are bound to Happen, even if they arent the way you say. For instance Draco being affected by the Dementors and Being taught by Lupin with Harry. Now you say that Harry and Draco talk and that's why he brings in Draco, but I think that Lupin would teach Draco and Harry regardless simply bc he is Lupin and Draco and Harry NEED it. It is like a time constant, it's bound to happen one way or another, however I am a HUGE fan of Draco character development/redemption so I like your way better

To be honest with where things are going I dnt think Draco would even need a redemption. So far the worst thing he did was be a racist little prat in first year and be a little salty. We are only 3 books in and most of the bad things that made Harry not like/trust Draco hasn't happened. I think this will turn out more they will work together and trust and rely on each other to figure out how to stop Voldemort without letting the death eaters into the school and keeping his mother safe. His dad will probably disown or threaten him if he realizes draco isn't blindly loyal to him and Voldemort.

I've got a Harry Potter based challenge for you (I have suggested this before) Have you seen the film Yesterday, basically it's about a struggling musician finds that the Beatles (popular British band in 70's) never existed so releases thier songs as his own but also finds other things don't exist like cigarettes and Coca Cola (only Pepsi) and right at the end discovers Harry Potter doesn't exist so it got my thinking if you both woke up one morning to find you were the only 2 people on the planet who remember the Harry Potter books (JK Rowling never wrote them or maybe was never even born) so tried to sit down and rewrite them from memory how well you'd do! So I challenge you to with no internet or anything other than a blank document or even paper and pen write as much of the series as possible with no additional revision before and you can't read anything Harry Potter or anything while you are doing it (when you stop for lunch or something) then you have to compare it to the original, obviously I'm not saying litterally write the whole series but maybe write sections of the books or even try to write one book (an early shorter one)! Sorry I know this is long but it would be a great video!

So off topic but the lack of regulation in school-level quidditch kills me. The way anyone can buy any bigger better broom and then use that personal broom in the game is…wow. When I played high school sports even our hair clips were regulated, much less something that would give such an unfair advantage.
