@@hodor9851 And I was thinking that there may be a missing observation about Marie Antoinette's role in this alternative timeline: the whole reason for the marriage was to strengthen ties between Austria and France. During the course of actual history, her reputation and the press about her reached very ugly hostile notes. But she and Louis learned to love and respect each other. She had powerful family members not only in Austria but in the Italian states and elsewhere thanks to strategic marriages engineered by her mother. It's possible all this might have made her an essential partner in making Louis' hopes and ambitions reality.

The only other Alternate timeline I want more is what if Sergei korolev lived? It means the Soviets are able to correct the flaws in the N1 rocket and also land a man on the moon. NASA is given more funding and the Apollo program continues into the 1980s. The amount spinoff Technologies and political changes due to said Technologies is unfathomable. Because of the needs to stay longer on the moon, we would use nuclear reactors. This can help mitigate fears of nuclear power and lead to wide-scale adoption earlier which could have an effect on climate change. I see a 2000 that is very green thanks to space. A lot of biotech.

Mars surface settlements would in there early phase likely with the first Mars landing happening in the 1990s/ 2000s. Thing is how does the collapse of USSR change thing? Not only monarchs and leaders but even far more commoners, whole peoples : it had the effect of making Italians and Austrians much more Catholic and nostalgic, and the anglo-saxon peoples much more Protestant. It's probably likely that he would've done the same thing as the majority of Chinese emperors. Set up his own dynasty which probably wouldn't last more than a couple of generations after his death. The history of China would be slightly different, but the general shape would remain the same. The reason is because the history of China is basically the history Dynasties collapsing into civil war, followed by one Warlord eventually rising above the others and setting up his own dynasty (then rinse and repeat). Some Dynasties managed to hold on for two or three centuries, but we're really only talking about the Ming and Qing dynasties there and they both ended very bloody. China was far too large, culturally diverse and too fractious to be held together by any one state given the technological limitations of their time. That's probably the main reason they never had major colonial activities, because they were usually too concerned about maintaining their own borders. And when you're fighting civil conflicts, unable to control your own population, it makes it a whole lot easier for foreign powers to come along and start throwing their weight around

If Louis had truly been interested in his people's wellbeing, he would have sided with the moderate Revolutionaries to promote the liberal reforms he himself had earlier sought. This would have also had the benefit of weakening the aristocracy, which limited and threatened royal power. As well, he could have encouraged emigration to, and cultivation of, the immense Louisiana territory, which could have been a source of significant colonial power and income for France.

@Fred_Lougee

This timeline is not, I think, bad for Mexico. I also think Z missed some things about the Spanish Colonies. Fix what he overlooked and things should be much better. Recall that after the 7 Years/French and Indian War France sold the remaining western part of Louisiana to Spain. This made the Gulf of Mexico basically a Spanish lake. At the end of the American Revolution Britain ceded the eastern drainage of the Mississippi to the new nation. All this land was landlocked and on the wrong side of the Appalachians. The US did build canals connecting the eastern drainage and Great Lakes to the Atlantic Seaboard but development was still slow until Napoleon sold them Louisiana. So in this timeliness the US would be desirous of buying the whole thing. But if they don't get Louisiana then the Civil War would never happen. Spanish Florida extended all the way to Louisiana, so what is now the states of Alabama and Mississippi would have just been annexed into Georgia and without an easy way to export cotton then the slavery-driven plantation system would have never expanded westward. Georgia, The Carolinas, Maryland, and Virginia would be the only slave states while new free states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin would keep both the House and Senate firmly swung towards abolition. This would probably happen in the 1820s. In our timeline the push for independence in the Spanish possessions of the New World did not really take hold until after Napoleon destroyed Spain. However, here the various viceroys are able to keep their power. Also, keep in mind that the actually settled parts of New Spain that are now US were limited to the land grant ranches in southern Texas, the upper Rio Grand in Neuvo Mexico, and the string of missions along El Camino Real in Alte California. There was very little push to expand settlement further, as the majority of the population was in a broad swath from Vera Cruz to Mazatlan via Cuidad de Mexico. The US could buy the rest of Louisiana, but not so early. Napoleon had no use for it but Spain still might be holding out hope for exploiting the land. Eventually though, they would sell as the US continued to develop the land west of the Appalachians and increase the amount they would be willing to pay. Maybe by 1820, by which time slavery would have been abolished. Oops. Just remembered that at the same time as Spain purchased Louisiana they sold Florida to Britain. The Americans had no design on Florida initially but as the Britsh mainly used Florida as a means to sew discord among the native population in Georgia the US eventually had enough and made taking it a part of their causus belli for the War of 1812. In this timeline, France and Spain would have seen helping the US in the war as a part of their campaign to take Britain's overseas colonial empire. This would include helping the Americans in their invasion of Canada and the Spanish launching an invasion from Cuba to regain Florida. Spain would also assist France in regaining Haiti at some point. With the help of Soain and France the US invasion of Canada would succeed, the US would take Ontario and the Maritimes and France would regain Quebec while Spain regains Florida. Having purchased Louisiana the US would begin to have designs on reaching the Pacific. As in our timeline, this would be via the Columbia River watershed. Having lost Canada the British might abandon their endeavors on the Pacific coast leaving the Oregon Country wide open to American incursion. The Russians might have tried to settle on the coast of Oregon, but for the same reasons as in our timeline they never get much presence. Thus the US would gain all of the coast north of California. In the Mexican viceroyalties there would be a gradual push for independence rather than one driven by armed revolution. Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, and Mexico would be granted independence, probably around 1830 and Paraguay and Uruguay would remain part of Argentina. Mexico would keep Central America north of Colombian territory (Panama). The new country would still be at loss as to handling its northern tier so might be amenable to selling the land to the US as the American government had offered to buy it in our timeline. Therefore the US would have all of it's current contiguous territory plus all of Canada save Quebec while Mexico would be a stable democracy and close friend of the US.

What's to say that in this alternate timeline, louis XVI isn't assassinated by the nobles for speaking out against their power. This is a much more likely outcome to this scenario, a powerless king attempting to take power from the people who actually control the country.

also possible in context: napoleon revitalizes the french military system with the approval of the monarchy and possibly the innovations of the napoleonic era are accepted under the monarchy. the monarchy itself is on the path to a status similar to, if not identical, to a constitutional monarchy, and is answerable to the people. however, with this in mind, its possible that the military budget would be limited to some extent, and for a considerable period of time france would have a policy of "defensive wars only". wars of conquest and annexation would be viewed as contrary to enlightment ideals, as well as unwise spending of resources and lives.

1 point that I never see explored about the French revolution is how it did cost the French navy most of its officers and, while land army can be trained really fast and even "fail, to gain experience" at a "low cost", that's not the case for navy officers whose training is way longer, hence, the French navy lost their heads and couldn't recover to face the English navy... (let's not forget that many surely did flee to avoid the guillotine and joined foreign nations)

France and Austria hated each other in our timeline and Marie Antoinette was basically the only thing keeping them from tearing each other apart seen as they were constantly fighting for influence in Germany and Italy. I'd say theyd openly support France, but draw up secret plans with Britain to take Italy, in exchange for hannover and the surrounding territory's, also it isn't out of the realm of possibility for Russia and the Netherlands to ally Britain openly seen as the Dutch needed help to maintain their imperial remnants and Russia well ,needed money and Britain had the most money .

What if america got taxation with representation
@thekingofmoab1181
@thekingofmoab1181 4 года назад
The founding fathers said that even if they had gotten fair representation in parlement it would not be ideal since the British representation would have dwarfed the Americans, and thus the Americans would still have very little influence on the rule over America. However, if they continued to go along with it, and eventually include Canada as well, then at some point in the 19th or 20th centuries we could see a shift of power towards America and the colonies, likely leading to the dominion system we see today, but more of a federal structure, with Britain establishing a measure of independence from the imperial parlement. The monarchy is likely to continue as well since the Americans only began to despise monarchy in the lead up to, and during, the revolutionary war. Of course this also has massive effects on the rest of the world. France would not have a revolution in the 18th century, and may attempt to modernize in the same manner as the video suggests, but this time without an American ally, which results in a much more powerful Britain, especially as time goes on.

If Austria had united Germany in such a scenario I don't think they would have lost their non-German lands. Those lands would have likely undergone a process of Germanification where the inhabitants would be pushed towards adopting German language and culture. The main reason Austria didn't do this with their territories in our own timeline is after their loss to the Prussians in the Austro-Prussian war, they lacked the strength to do so, and were forced to reform in to the Austro-Hungarian empire to stave off collapse. With the resources and military power that would come from the rest of Germany, they would not have lacked this ability. Maybe.
