Its kinda funny how many fan versions of monk exists. But its nice to see your version of it.

XD yah it is a common one, I think it's because it is one of the coolest classes aesthetically in WoW. Lots of people, including myself, love the themes of Pandaria and the Monks.

i didnt think monk would fit in hearthstone but this video changed my mind. i really like the green color. monk is a good example of a strong class that is not an OverPowered hero class. after being in wow since 2012 i think monk class should be introduced to hearthstone ASAP

in my own design for a Monk class, I made the hero power cast a random secret out of 4 base ones, akin to the shaman hero power. That reflects their connection to the Celestials and their specs. The secrets shouldn't be too strong but beneficial in almost every situation, and they should have simple, blunt effects. Like: When your hero is attacked, summon a 0/4 Ox with Taunt as the new target. When your opponent casts a spell, restore 2 health to all friendly characters. I never liked the idea of adding new resources. Why should Monks get Chi if Warriors don't have Rage, Hunters don't have Focus, Warlocks don't have Soul Shards, Death Knights don't have Runes? I find it too cheap to just have a Lock and Key mechanic: some cards give Chi and other cards spend it again. The themes you gave are fun and interesting though. Dragons, beasts and elementals would form a nice menagery combination.

That sounds very cool! I experimented with the idea of making the August Celestials have a bigger role in my class but decided to lean in more towards the martial aspects of the class. As for Chi, I tried to design it in a way that it was more akin to a class Keyword than a resource. It is very similar to a resource but instead of being spent it is built up and exponentially grows throughout the game. Similar to how druids ramp their Mana, but combined with cards that provide temporary Chi bonuses much like how spell casters gain spell damage. I think it adds a unique spin on the idea of a class resource. Though I will say that I do also have a series where I revisit some of the old Hearthstone classes and in a lot of them, I give them those resources you mentioned as well, like Warrior Rage or Warlock Soul Shards if that is of interest to you! Fair warning though, not all of them are perfect by any means, but I still find them at least interesting as concepts.

@@bionicdoor ye I've watched them all. I might always express my criticisms a bit harshly but I do find it enjoyable content. Indeed, I do find your iteration of Chi a more appealing design choice. It slots into a "If you control a beast" type of interaction too. Hearthstone so far has mainly gone the route of representing the resources in card mechanics, where rage is a keyword or a number of damaged minions, soul shards are cards shuffled into the deck etc. If I were to involve chi in the game, I'd try to lean into that aspect. Similarly, Chi in WoW is currently only used by Windwalkers, so you could tie it to hero attacks. "If your hero attacked this turn, X" "whenever your hero attacks, X" "for your next three hero attacks, X" "the next time your hero attacks" I do always enjoy seeing thought provoking monk designs though. There's a lot of creativity in there

I especially love that most of the more powerful effects are battlecries, which obviously synergizes well with Youthful Brewmaster’s bounce which I just love as flavor! Assuming that was intentional! Great job with this class design as always I love your creativity and how much thought that goes into each class and card. It’s evident that you truly have a passion for the game! Keep of up the great work, again I love your content and I’m so glad I was recommended this channel

@@tray9012 I am currently working on a Custom Hearthstone Expansion though I don't think I'll make a Monk set for it. This is mainly because Monks didn't even exist yet in the theme of the set I am working on

could see it playing like the watcher from slay the spire, where they have stances which would make it unique and have a more balanced play style that you can either focus on offence or defence

i dont want CHI to be just a stat on a card, i want CHI to actually be the cost of powerful cards. a 4 Chi cost 10/10 with rush windfury and "does damage before the oponent" as an example

I feel like you did pretty good, despite having little to draw on in the form of solid gameplans (in-game.) I always liked how the Brewmaster Monk (Tank) Specialization could spread out damage they take. Imagine a negative resource you can build up, and at the start of your turn you take like... 3 damage, and lose 3 of that resource. I don't have a good name for it other than "Anticipation" but that doesn't really fit.

suggestion: new keyword "stagger" minions with stagger take half damage (rounded up) but at the end of your next turn they take the remaining damage so heres a situation: i have a 6/6 with stagger on board, the enemy has a 6/7 on board, his 6/7 attacks into my 6/6, my 6/6 takes 3 damage, his 6/7 takes 6 damage, he ends his turn, if i have a way of healing my minion it survives because it currently has 3 health and will take 3 damage at the end of my turn meaning if it heal it it surives if i cant heal it it will die at the end of my turn i think this will be a great way to give monk a unique mechanic that takes skill to play around, it should also have a way to showcase that a minion with stagger has currently active stagger like a yellow outline on board if the staggered damage a minion will receive at the end of your turn isnt lethal and red if it is lethal, to make it easier to keep track of things also the stagger will compensate for the rounding up so if a minion with stagger gets hit for 5 damage which gets rounded to 2.5 but because its rounded up it will take 3 damage, the stagger will then be inturn rounded down from 2.5 to 2 so that it totals 5 damage you could also have other cards to interact with stagger like "battlecry: remove all active stagger damage from your minions, deal that damage randomly split to all enemies" or similiar things

Yeah I think it fits. I enjoy the focus on reducing the attacks of the opponent's minions and I like that chi is a mixture of druid ramp and spell damage with giving you the tools to try to build up to certain chi power levels and I like they're not depleted like a resource that way to reward you for playing things that give you chi. Also I think the hero power is probably the best for the monk I seen because it'd be easy to do like a druid but targeted that heals and increases damage, it works but it's boring. Versus you basically choosing a stance that you're stuck with and not only can change for the flow of battle (tranquility to get chi power to summon powerful things before doing damage when you're at the advantage), but also tranquility can probably be used for agro depending on the card designs. My one change is I would make it that for 2 mana you can swap the hero power. That way you still want to be in the stance you chose to have that stuck feeling but giving a out that's costly

I am very glad you liked it! I did put a LOT of thought into the hero power and it went through so many different forms (pun intended) but I really like where it landed as well. I do like the idea of being able to swap between stances more often, not being locked in one, although I was thinking perhaps there could be more cards like King Kang who put you in a Form allowing for that. I do really like your solution for that as well.

The improved hero power would be better if it improved the passive effect since if it goes to 3 turns you might get stuck on one you want to swap to the other

I really like your take. In general, i think that, besides balancing and all of that you have awesome takes on cards, mechanics and archetipes. The only thing that gives me mixed feelings is the hp. On the one hand, i really like the concept of an aura as a hp, i think that it is cool, feasible and probably balanced?). On the other hand if I understood correctly you only use your hp once each two turns, which kinda turns me off. Personally I am not very fan of hp that limit you in it usage (like chaman did with its 4 totems until a couple of days ago). But two turns is feasible, i mean, rogue hp works kinda similar in the sense that you want to use it each two turn or at least at the end of the second turn. But my problem comes with the upgraded version, because three turns without using your hp seems kinda bad, even if actually it is like DH hp but each turn it cost 2/3 of a mana crystal, but personally I believe that it might feel kinda bad in terms of curve and that? I actually dont know, but I liked your monk fanmade class so bad that The hp thing got me thinking for hours. Overall really loved the design and the mechanics you made, just wanted to share my thoughts and see if I am the only one, love ❤

Thank you so much for the feedback! I've seen a couple people share the concern that you do about the hero power only being unusable while in a Form. I do agree that the upgraded version in particular may indeed be unfun in practice. Don't have a clean solution right now, but I am sure something could be done to fix that. Is aya cloudknight not just ivory knight’s effect on a 1 mana 1/2? Wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t a legendary. If you want to keep it then rare is fine. But the effect just is not interesting enough to be legendary. Cool video and interesting take on monks!

I feel it is important for each class to have things it does well and things that it is a little weaker with. When I say the class has more conditional card draw, I am saying that while some classes have really efficient card draw, thing Rogue, Warlock, or Druid. This class would fall under the subset that have a bit less, like Priest, Shaman, or Paladin. Of course, it will still have card draw and some of their draw cards will be good, it just won't be known to consistently have the best card draw. To balance this, I decided that the class would have more powerful Discover effects than some other classes, to show off the Monks theme of resourcefulness using what nature provides them. Just explaining my reasoning for that decision here, glad you liked the concept overall though!

Is funny, the class is supposed to not be able to swarm the opponent, but in WoW they split into 3 to bukake you. Weak aoe while in WoW the have one of the most strong aoe as dpa. No burst damage, I will just say, touch of death.

I think those idea's are great, however I think it would be cool to have the monks have a hero power: "give a friendly minion +1 health" "gain +1 spell damage this turn" "reduce the attack of an enemy minion by 1 until your next turn" I'm not sure if it would fit the class, but the +1 attack this turn feels very unorigional considering druid and demon hunter. And the cards being heavily focussed on reducing enemy attack combined with healing spells it would also be awsome to see most monk minions have very low attack and powerful battlecries and on board effects, as almost no class currently fields minions centred around low attack (save for totem shaman) the powerlevel on these cards is pretty low considering standard, but I'd love to see you make a video figuring out how to fix the warrior class
