60s but they still produced albums without their inspiration, Brian Wilson, into the 70s and 80s They were massive and the guy on the far right is Brian Wilson. A true music genius up there with the Beatles. Don’t listen to me take Paul McCartneys word for it. Paul’s favourite song is God Only Knows off the Pet Sounds album. An album that appears in any list of top 10 albums of all time. I help run a Beach Boys fan club until 2005. I’ve met Brian Wilson 3 times. I travelled to NYC from the UK to see him solo in 1999 . Their music is infectious, happy and uplifting. As you’ve just discovered Try Don’t Worry Baby, Good Vibrations, I Get Around, California Girls and Do it Again. They were a pop band of the highest quality. Major international stars. Their strength was Brian’s musical genius and powerful harmonies

Glen Campbell played guitar on the Beach Boys' landmark Pet Sounds album, and following Brian Wilson's breakdown and subsequent inability to tour, he joined the band on the road from December of 1964 until March of 1965. That's right! They don't realize they're really listening to a Chuck Berry song. Don't know how they got away with lifting his tune, but maybe they gave him a writing credit. Since Brian Wilson is a bonafide song writing genius, it's hard to understand why he would lift someone else's song, but he did here.

"The Beach Boys" had Brian Wilson as one of the performers, often lead singer, and one of the song writers, and his father was the manager of the band. The problem was - Brian was painfully introverted. He hated to be in the limelight, hated giving interviews, but his father pushed him to go out and perform anyway. It's reported that at the signing of one record contract, Brian was sobbing as he signed because it required so many public appearances. Eventually the band fired Dad. Brian wrote the ground breaking "Good Vibrations". There was nothing like it previously and it inspired many other bands to step up their own writing. If you listen to early bubblegum pop Beatles vs. later deeper intellectual Beatles you can guess where "Good Vibrations" came in. It changed the genre.

The early beginning for the Beach Boys in 1963, consisted of songs about Surfing, (They are California Boys) Girls, and Hot Rods. Pretty much what every Red Blooded American Teenage kid, was obsessed with. Everyone in the Band was either Brothers, or a cousin. This Band was adopted as America's favorite sons. They are simply iconic around the world. They are as close to Elvis, as you can get, as far as being world famous.

"The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented themes, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. They drew on the music of older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound, and under Brian's direction, often incorporated classical or jazz elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways.... The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide. They helped legitimize popular music as a recognized art form and influenced the development of music genres and movements such as psychedelia, power pop, progressive rock, punk, alternative, and lo-fi. Between the 1960s and 2010s, the group had 36 songs reach the US Top 40 (the most by an American band), with four topping the Billboard Hot 100. In 2004, they were ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest artists of all time. The founding members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988." --Wikipedia They were instrumental in creating an entire sub-genre of rock-n-roll music called "surf music," which was tremendously popular in the early- to mid-60s, which glorified all aspects of the southern-California surf culture: surfing, street-racing, drag-racing, cars, sun, beaches, school-spirit, romance, teen-angst, and bikini-clad girls girls girls.

Kid playing the guitar on the far left is actually David Marks, a neighbor to the Wilson boys. He's responsible for a lot of the guitar sound that the early Beach Boys had. He played on their first 4 albums, while Al Jardine was off at college. They had an amazing album called Pet Sounds that when Paul McCartney of the Beatles heard it, he said they couldn't top that and he quit writing music for 6 months until John Lennon said they had to try. I think you've got your wires crossed there. When the Beatles released the US version of the Rubber Soul album, Brian Wilson was inspired to write the extraordinary Pet Sounds album. Shortly before the release of that album, the Beatles released Revolver. Brian Wilson then decided to work on the ill-fated Smile album. Once Sgt Pepper came out, that was game over for Wilson. He had a nervous breakdown which he's still not fully recovered from. For his part, McCartney never thought he wasn't good enough to compete; it's just that the whole thing coincided with their association with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and the death of their manager Brian Epstein. Interestingly, Mike Love of the Beach Boys went to India in 1968, along with the Beatles. It was here that he allegedly helped with the composition of Back in the U.S.S.R.

And Santa Cruz is one of the places that they sing in the lyrics. I also love the way Jay (or J) and Amber can react so quickly to songs and enjoy music that is not a part of their era. Keep up the great work Rob Squad and Thanks

The Beach Boys put out the song California Girls which got lots of airplay and jumped up the charts. The Beatles being a little put out by the song, because they got bumped off the charts, wrote a parody song which they released on their new album. It was called, Back in the U.S.S.R. Which just goes to show you that rich and famous people are just as petty as us common folks.

They were friends at that point -- some of the Beach Boys and some of the Beatles even went on spiritual retreats together. They'd tease each other a bit, but it was all in good fun. And "Back in the USSR" is a kick-ass song.

Brian Wilson is a musical genius. The Beatles site the beach boys album, Pet Sounds, As a major influence for Sergeant peppers lonely hearts club band. There are brothers and cousins in the Beach Boys. Renowned for their harmonies and the complexity of some of their work. It always feels good to have the Beach boys on the radio in the summer. They sang about the beach, cars, cruising around in cars, summer. it was just fun. But, musical genius. California girls, Fun Fun Fun (Now that daddy took the Teebird away), Good Vibrations and Help Me Rhonda But also they could write melancholy work, that was Brian Wilson whose life took a tragic turn but who has been touring recently. Brian is much more than a pop and rock composer.

The Beach Boys were huge for decades! Listen to “In my Room”; “Rhonda”; “Fun, Fun, Fun” (about a rich girl and her T-bird) and, of course, “Good Vibrations”. Those four songs will show you the wide range of style they had. Brian Wilson wrote most of them and produced them all. He went a little nuts and sequestered himself in a room for years. His two daughters and the daughter of Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and Papas also had a band called “Wilson Phillips”. Listen to their hit “Hold On” and you can hear the famous Wilson harmonies coming thru. It’s a small world as piano player from the group Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVee, dated Dennis Wilson, drummer for The Beach Boys after she and John McVee (the bass guitarist for Fleetwood Mac) divorced. And for the record, Stevie Nicks and lead guitarist and singer Lindsey Buckingham also of Fleetwood Mac were living together when they joined Fleetwood but they subsequently broke up as well. Landslide is about him. Go your own way was his answer to her. Stevie went on to date Don Henley, the drummer and one of the singers for the Eagles. His song “Boys of Summer” and “Forgiveness” are two songs he wrote about their break up. The only original member of Fleetwood Mac is the giant sized drummer Mick Fleetwood. But the group has been around for decades and the current members have been in it all those years, although I heard a rumor Lindsey refused to tour on their schedule as he’s finishing a solo album so they’ve fired him. 🤷🏻‍♀️😎

If you don't already know, the beach boys were a 60s hit machine. Unfortunately they dealt with alot of issues in the years following their 60s successes including addiction, a weird connection to the Manson family and Brian Johnsons mental health problems. And then fast forward through all of that to 1988. In 1988 they came from outta nowhere with Kokomo and when I say that this song was BIG it was Huge! It was being blasted literally everywhere you went that year. It wound up propelling them to a superstardom that even they couldn't imagine. It wound up being their biggest hit of all time.

The band started when the brothers Wilson were 16, 13 and 11 (with their cousin and a friend, both teenagers) and had their first US top 20 hit 3 years later in 1961 with Surfin' (#14). Surfin USA reached #14 two years later. Their genre is surf rock (an upbeat happy style carefree style of rock) They were one of the first US self contained bands -, writing, playing, recording and producing their own music - and one of the few US bands who were successful through the British Invasion (1964-1967) - 10 top 10 hits in that time (3 were #1 hits) "Good Vibrations" was probably their biggest hit, in 1967, and was on the first album I ever bought at age 13

One of my favorite bands. Brian Wilson is a genius song writer and lots of other songs show off their vocals. Just read that Paul McCartney’s favorite song is one of theirs, God Only Knows. The Beach Boys used to open for my cousin,Dick Dale and the Deltones. Dick never liked touring so he didn’t sell as many records. He was known as King of the Surf Guitar and created that surf guitar sound. One of his most famous songs is Miserlou. Watch the original 1963 version. You may have heard it because they used it as the theme song for the movie, Pulp Fiction.

The Beach Boys ruled the Charts... The Leader and Song Writer Brian Wilson is arguable one of the top 5 Popular Music Composers in the History of America, if not the World... But California, the Drugs and Women ... Tragic Story... Some of his major inspiration was Chuck Berry that I believed sued them for using his Beats and Rhythms without being licensed; but the complex layers of the harmonies and structure was all Brian Wilson...

Chuck Berry sued him because this song was a re-write of Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen which Brian "forgot" to get permission to use. It was credited only to Brian on the single. Because of the lawsuit, it was credited only to Berry on the album. All later releases correctly credit the song to Chuck Berry/Brian Wilson.
