Hey he called me buddy again. Thanks for the great info. I find this akin to football draft prospects. My number 1 motto “don’t fall in love with draft picks” because you never know which one will work out. You just don’t know who will help you win over the next ten years, and end up in the Hall of Fame. But if you have a goal and understand there is process to achieving it, this helps you make those decisions. In comics, my background, you have to understand what is best for the story in a collaborative environment. I’m not always right, nor are my ideas best suited. Basically, we’re making decisions on a sandwich you want “other people” to pay for.
Hey buddy. Your videos have helped me out with personal and professional projects loads!!!! Thanks for Sharing all your info with us man, Love your stuff! your account is by far the best on youtube for this subject and everything art related! Thanks for sharing, sending love from the UK
Ok, now im scared, i was talking with some people on a discord last week about one of my concept arts, and i got the same conclusion, weird... Some of the tips they give me were usefull but some others was just they personal preference about the concept. Ah, good video btw love your content.
hey rob! thanks for all the great videos, i recently subscribed and i'm really enjoying listening to your advice while i'm painting and drawing. really enjoyed this one too, i'm actually working on an indie project now and everythjing you said is exactly the problem with the project. i had to point it out to the rest of the designers that we needed to edit it back down. Anyways, I was also wondering if you were ever interested in giving some portfolio critique on your channel? you seem to have a great way with explaining what works and what doesn't , so i'd love to see you point out weaknesses and strengths in some developing artists. anyways, thanks again for all your vids! peace
Hi, Rob! Your videos really inspire me! I'm currently a freshman in high school, and am an aspiring environment artist. I have a question for you (unrelated to the video). Environments are my strong suit, and I feel that I am really good at them. However, I'm not the best at character art. I'm still decent at it, but if you compare my environment art to my character art, there is a clear distinction at which one is better. My question is: How important is it to have a solid base in character art as an environment artist?
Most environment guys, make sure to have passable characters, so they can fill their environments with activity. IMO, take a few anatomy classes, and make sure you can tell the story you want to. An empty environment, or one that does not tell a story, gets boring fast!
