This is a Concept Art channel for Games, Film and TV. I am also doing free art sessions with our community in order to help out starting concept artists who might not get a chance otherwise! Feel free to join us, and draw along. We have a fun community with all levels of artists from aspiring to established. I try to deliver honest, real and valuable information along with a lot of tips and tricks about workflow, how to get a job, how to draw and paint in Photoshop, and how to carry yourself as a professional.

Usually when im struguling to make the painting I go on youtube and look for videos like this one. I heard a bit from both Stephen Zapata, about negative feelings and their powerlessness and from Adam Duff, about setting the mood with the right kind of music. I think this is a good video, take care.

For me its setting reasonable expectation part that I need the most. There are time that I want to draw all day but if my expectation are too much I can be a bit all over the place. So setting small achievable tasks and being satisfied with them is the thing that I am working on.

I wrote the lessons from the video in a more logical order for me. 1. Accept Critique, don't make excuses. Detach yourself from your art, that's gonna make it easier for you to accept the critique. Avoid saying "yeah but" because places you in a position/mindset where you don't believe the advice being given. 2. Don't answer right away, try understand what they're saying. Make clarifying questions to be clear on the advice. 3. Implement the advice, get back right away.

I just found your channel. It feels like this message at this moment like meant just for me where and how I am in life right now! And yet so many feel so similar and same. May the quality of our individual and collective existence truly heal fully flourish especially with the approaching end of patriarchy, the originator of all our suffering!🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

Wow this randomly showed up on my homepage today, 6 years later but it was perfect timing for me.. I’ve been really unsure about being an artist.. I loved it, but I let people get to me, discouragement, and my own negative thoughts and I stopped creating for a few years.. This encouraged me to get back to what I love and to silence those thoughts saying I can’t do it. Thank you for making this Rob and I hope you’re doing well!

That seemed like half an answer --- no offense meant. Creating is one thing. Living as a creative is another. The part creatives are not taught or encouraged is how to do the living part -- as in, how to get income to meet needs and wants and some left over. That is the part that can be sooooooo discouraging.

Idk if you were specifically talking about prescribed or unprescribed adderall but as someone who has ADHD and is prescribed adderall I don't think you truly understand what having it is like and how adderall can help it. It is a disability and adderall is just there to help accommodate for that disability

The only thing that I genuinely disagree with is the drugs. It's the type of drugs you take that will influence how you draw and how you actually use them. I find that LSD helps me get into touch with my muse.

Can I ask you a question? How do u break thru that industry and you already been graduated. Like years ago. How do u set your mind to finish those pieces that are going to catch the eye of those companies. I have an issue on where do I start and what do I draw.

I do wish I had someone in my life that could give me good advice. A lot of opinions/criticism I get online is some variation of "this is good" and I don't find that very helpful.

I’m so happy I watched this video. I drew a motorcycle for my friend and it turned out relatively good considering it was my first time, BUT I literally felt like a boiling over pot the entire time I was drawing it haha. I cried twice over it but hearing that hard times are the only way to conquer patience is really something I needed to hear

Hey Rob! first of all thanks for all your amazing content all those years , i cant explain how much i appreciate it. I have a small question, something i always wonder when i use artstation. There is a feature where you can divide your portfolio in several "folders" lets say. Is it okay to use it, the same way you mentioned having a "sketchbook" page in your website? So i would create a "portfolio" folder, and a "sketchbook" folder or something like that. I also had the idea of posting the sketchbook stuff on the blogging feature. I just feel like artstation is a kinda scary place and id like to know your opinion, because some people say its bad some say its amazing they love to see it, etc.. :b Anyways thank you so much rob, great video even many years later!!

Just watching this, I realized I've been impatient all my life then I started a spiritual journey by studying the Bible, discovered the power of patience as part of “the fruitage of the spirit.” (Galatians 5:22, 23)". Now am applying to my art and the results are amazing. Bible truths are a manual of every aspect of life.

I'm not a professional but i got a critique from someone A LOT better than me. He told me i needed to study perspective more. it actually crushed my ego. I had been working on perspective for over a year and thought i was really good at it lol.

I don't struggle with saying myself "time to draw". I could draw for 16 hours no problem. It's a problem I completly erased from my life years ago. I struggle with, 90% of the time, not being able to LEARN, not being able to SLOWLY PROGRESS. Sometimes I have these moments where I can just... tell myself "ok, lets draw this thing I want to draw", and I just progress 1% by 1%, it's not the best drawing ever and I KNOW it while making it, but I just PROGRESS through it, thinking about every line one after the other, while not overthinking about it either, the progress is not super fast but what motivates me in these moments is the fact that, no matter what happens, the drawing will be done and good enough, simple as that... It makes me feel SO GOOD. But 90% of the time I'm just doing 1%... 7%... 3%... 25%... 14%... 17%.... FRUSTRATING. And I KNOW I'm frustrated, I know I'm being impatient, but I just can't go against it, and things need to be done. I lack patience but, physical patience, I don't want or feel the need to do any other thing in the house or hell even the universe, even launching a videogame is not interesting, but my hand doesn't listen, the only things that come out are mechanical brainless moves. I can still put out some work while in this mood but it's way harder, not interesting, purposeless and it's completly uncompatible with quotas / deadlines.
