This is so timely for me. I was diagnosed, at 60 years of age, with ADHD, ASD, Childhood developmental trauma, and borderline personality disorder (my psychiatrist hasn't worked out which one yet). The meds are working. The EMDR therapy is working. However challenges are still many. Making decisions and not being able to know what to do with my life and days is maddening. To compound all this I have been retired for 4 years, and when I choose something to do I feel guilty. The guilt comes from the trauma. But combine this with what you have described and each day can be a nightmare. Fortunately, I do my planning for the day in a bullet journal each morning and so get the opportunity to see if I am planning too much. The big thing from your video is I know now I have surrounded myself with too much stimulus. I have multiple hobbies, a huge garden, Uni (this will be my 4th degree), piles of work to do around our little farm of 5 acres, and about 800 books in my home library. Ive currently found a new hobby - DIY Book Nooks. Ive always loved things in miniature. I still have a cupboard full of model trains. The book nooks have given me the opportunity to sit and listen to podcasts and youtube content on my conditions. Oh Yeh Im also an avid reader. That's how I stumbled on your video. Ill definitely make my morning bullet journal planning a priority to ensure Im not over doing it. I will start/continue to clean out cupboards and the huge shed of projects which I will never go back to or complete. Thank you so much for putting into words what Im feeling like 🙂

You just described my head 99% of the time, and my husband can't understand why I have so much trouble doing basic things. In fact every single example you gave is a daily occurrence for me and sometimes my head just says 'no more' and shuts down. All these decisions and minutia take valuable energy from me, no wonder I'm always feeling exhausted and overwhelmed before I ever start anything. Tell me though, have you figured out how to prioritize cleaning yet? Because I still have trouble, every...single... time. 😬 I'm undiagnosed btw, my son was diagnosed recently in his 20's, but I can't afford it, so I do what I can.

Great description. I'm ASD having been in aspie burnout since forever, and my SO has ADD and is in a long haul burnout too. We kind of don't get much done at all, to say the least. We're in a constant mode of shame of not being competent enough to do everyday things, when we can do other things that normies seldom do (like writing and publishing a novel), is a struggle in itself. Have lost friends over it, them thinking we are only lazy, while we're f*ckin' struggling for our lives here.

Glad i am not the only one and it is part of adhd. Both adhd and autism is nevrodivergent. My boyfriend has adhd and I autism, he to get an overload and shut downs( as i like to call it the same)the difference i hqve observed: is he can avtually shut down and shut of and sleep for 2 days if he had the oppurtunity, but my overload is filled with anxiety and insomnia and my mind cant shut down but i get mutism and cant prossess new information and my feelings ! Will anyone with adhd confirm this is the same as paralysis as called in this video?
@skylivingwithadhd
@skylivingwithadhd 11 месяцев назад
Hey great question! I think they are definitely similar (if not the same with just a different title). Both are linked to overwhelm and the freeze response which causes the person to feel immobile and sometimes mute. Thanks for asking! 🙂

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 51. What you've said sounds like me at the extreme of overload. Possibly not quite the same as the autism experience, but I recognize the pattern you mentioned too. I think it can hit in a few different ways.
