I have a carob tree in my front yard in Phoenix, Arizona where temperatures reach 118F in the summer. It is drought tolerant and a great shade tree, and the bees love it when it is in bloom. The blooms smell like honey. I was not aware that I could eat the raw pods! Thank you for this great information!

I'm from Palestine🇵🇸, originally arab🌙 we drink carob (kharoub/ خروب) drink. adding a small amount of sugar in a pan, when turns into caramel adding dried carob pods that has been cut into pieces/ chunks, stir then add water, boil, drain then refrigerate. Or just simply soak for 12 hours carob pieces in water in a cool place then blended with the soaking water, drain well and refrigerate. Its a Very tasty delicious drink that has a unique aroma, flavor and smell to it. SO GOOD👌🏼 mostly drink in the month of Ramadan🌙🕌♡

Great video with so much info! When I was visiting Israel in 1988 we went to a park and there were some vendors selling various foods and snacks. As I was waling around I saw laying underneath a very large shade tree a lot of dark brown Carob pods! I was so excited as I have known these pods throughout my life as "Boxer". We would eat these as a treat for one of the Jewish holidays. (I can't remember which one it was). So I went up to one of the vendors and asked if he had a bag. He gave me a large plastic bag and I proceeded to collect at least a gallon's worth of the pods. I went over to a water fountain and washed some of them off and bit into one. I could not control my excitement when I bit into this delicious honey flavored soft pulp of the carob pod. Well I offered them to everyone on our tour but the people were afraid to eat them and were not familiar with them as I was from my childhood. Well I took my huge bag full of carob pods and packed them well into my suitcase and flew back home. When I got home I surprised my late father with the bag of carob. He too was very excited about them cause he loved them as much as I did. I was so happy to make HIM happy, as my late father had terminal Cancer, and this was one thing I could do for him before he passed in 1990. I so wish I could find a distributor so I could find fresh carob. As according to this marvelous video they as VERY healthy and nutritious with loads of vitamins and minerals. To anyone reading this, if you could give me info on a distributor of fresh Carob Pods, I would be most grateful.😘

Almost everything (food wise) is more nutrition raw. Cooking, roasting, whatever the heat application, is usually done for flavor. We roast coffee beans for flavor. People have no problem with that. But roast carob for flavor, and people quit buying it. Stores quit stocking it. What gives? I have to order roasted carob powder online now.

Thnx for the good info ..however i am Muslim and what you said about using Carob in islamic ceremonial purposes is not true。。I think you are mixing Traditional/culture like ceremonies (of some muslim region) and the religion of Islam 。。The thing is that it is advised to eat naturel foods and Carob was mentionned in Quran just like grenades ...apples ...figues。。olive oil which is why we muslims say they have great benefits for health and try to incorporate them as much as we can in our daily diet。。。 I just felt the need to correct you (no offense intended 😊)。Anyways..u got a new subbie here 😊(Sarah from Algeria/North Africa)

I'm curious about why people use this power in desserts, squid ink, or even cosmetics. Is it for taste or color? In my opinion, the amount seems too small to significantly impact taste or color. I recently discovered carob powder in a jar of squid ink. What purpose does it serve in squid ink?
