Thank you for being here. I'm a giddy gardener as well 😄 I've gardened for 26 years, went no-till 4yrs ago and started wild foraging last year. I get overwhelmed in a good way, everything i've planted and my "weeds" are medicinal. I'm making salves, teas and tinctures. In a year I've prevented countless visits to dr.s for myself and others. It all started with videos like yours and plantain. My grandkids are addicted😁🙏Thank you soul much❤My house smells like roses, lavender and chamomile right now👍

I haven't bought Calendula seeds for almost 18 years. It's my pride and joy that I have kept seeds and grown them every year for so long. I use it with olive oil to apply to sore, dry skin, itching skin, and superficial scratches and wounds the second it stops bleeding.
That is my main hesitation in making tinctures...using alcohol. Looking forward to your "making tinctures w/ vinegar" videos. Thanks for addressing it.
I love Valerian. I'm an oddball; I really like the smell of Valerian. Wel... I'm used to it now; I was introduced to it about 30 years ago. I remember my first reaction was, "Oh my, this smells like sock sweat!" Whatever sock sweat smells like. My cat, at the time, loved Valarian even more than catnip. I usually have Valerian in tea at night. It's on my list to plant in our area. I don't know why I did not plant it before. What I don't grow, I will purchase, in bulk, from a reputable source. I'm in Maryland, zone 7B. We have mullein growing in the garden; it's great for sleep also, inflammation, and a whole host of other benefits I'm sure you're aware of. Thanks so much for giving us a tour of your living apothecary. It's always wonderful seeing others sharing and educating others on the many things in our world that can nourish and heal us.
Ohhh you can definitely grow Valerian where you are!! It’s pretty hardy and survived last year’s winter! I can already tell you that I most definitely will grow more!!! Also I love “living apothecary” what a lovely name for this space!
@@TheHoneystead For some reason, I thought it grew in tropical climates; however, when I checked about a month ago, I found that was not the case. I was so excited and looking forward to having it on our property. Living apothecary accurately describes your homestead; it's how I also view our homestead. It's a lot to do, but I enjoy the work immensely I find it therapeutic. I'm off to do my garden tours which is a bit late. I'm usually out there by now!
Jess is an inspiration to so many! So glad you took the chance. I started my apothecary this year. It's growing by leaps and bounds in part because of your instruction and positivity! My feverfew, valerian and arnica will probably bloom next season. BTW...my husband is threatening to by me a bee bonnet for the relentless gnats!!!! Great advice.
So grateful for all the wisdom you and your mother share with all of us. Would love a video on harvesting yarrow and hibiscus and processing them for teas.

You're videos are what got me really into growing my own herbs and medicinal flowers! I think you do a wonderful job and I learn alot from your videos :) You just seem so happy and at peace with what you are doing and that makes it enjoyable for everyone else. God does have a plan for you or it wouldn't have worked out as well as it has so far! Keep growing and keep learning! I look forward to the homesteaders conference this year, if I can get away from work maybe I can make it thursday. I would love to learn about bee keeping, it seems so interesting!
Watched one of your last videos in where you harvested wild lettuce. I am 63, had seen and walked by this plant most of my life and had NO idea that this plant was anything other than a weed. They are everywhere here in New Mexico so thank you so much for teaching an old dog new tricks. So grateful for your lessons.
Hi there!! I’m over in U.K. and am really enjoying your videos!!!🥰 For pest control I use garlic water and I’ve found a new recipe that uses tomato leaves left in water for about a week, drain and spray. It does say to use on brassicas but I’m going to give it a go for other plants. Thought I’d share it with you since you’re helping me gain knowledge!!🥰🥰🥰
German chamomile has become my favorite herb this year. I have 3 plants right now that I started from seed. I actually had many more but gave them away. I go out daily and usually can pick enough for one cup of tea. Now I know I need way more plants. I have the same hanging drying thing and it is staying busy. I actually started more herbs than vegetables this year so I can start the salves, tinctures, infusions, etc. I love watching you talk about all of this and am learning a lot. I also follow Jes from Roots and Refuge and have learned lots from her about the food part of my garden.
I love this so much!! Two days ago, I went out to my garden and picked a most nutritious salad!! I used purslane, plantain, wild lettuce, burdock leaf, smartweed, pigweed, lambs quarters, mustard leaf, dandelion leaf, and a poke berry leaf! I cleaned off the dirt, spritzed it with balsamic vinegar, then added just a bit of Japanese salad dressing from a local hibachi restaurant. It was sooooo amazing! I can't believe how connected to Nature I felt after eating it. Two days later and I'm still going strong from the nutrition boost!!
Thank you for all the information you put out for us. I learn so much and will keep learning as long as I can. I believe the Lord has given us all we need to stay as healthy as possible. Too bad I didn't know all this when I was a child. Now it's time for us to teach the children.

I have a few tinctures where I use apple cider vinegar as the solvent. I like to add it to a 1/4 cup of water or use it in a nourishing salad dressing. Glicerites are also good if you want to avoid alcohol.
Good channel! Just found it. Bravo! I heard you mention fermented foods like pickles. I make saurkraut regularly, eat a small bowl a day to promote gut health. 3lb. cabbage, shredded, 1-1/2 Tablespoons of himalayan pink salt, mix and let sit for 15 min to soften it and pack it into a jar. Weight it with a jar of water or sand, cover with a cloth/bag and let sit on the counter for 7-10 days. I have one on the go and start another when one is finished, so 2 on the go a week apart.
I’m not sure about the bees, but to keep bugs off of my plants I find that orange essential oil diluted in water and then misted over the plants will keep the pests away very effectively. Thanks so much for your videos I am learning a lot and I love to listen to you teach us! ♥️
I don’t like using pesticides in my garden either, since I have been blessed with mason and leaf cutter bees nesting in my yard and pollinating everything. I’ve heard of using neem oil or tea tree oil to control garden pests but I don’t want to hurt all the sweet little wild bees so I do go through the plants and kill the pests by hand as much as I can.
It does not surprise me that you are friends with Jess. She sees light in people, and I know she saw in you a great knowledge. I've been babysitting for my sister kayli and she bought a house that had oregano growing... I let it go to flower and it is SOOOOOO enjoyable sitting watching all the bumble 🐝 that are on it.. atleast 7 at any given time are on the flowers it's SOOOOOO beautiful

Thank you for teaching me how to identify "weeds" and forage! My vegetable garden looks like a mess now because I know what the weeds are and I don't want to pull them😄. I dry my flower heads on a screen underneath a ceiling fan on low. Gets them dry before any mold can infiltrate the moist parts prevalent in my subtropical climate
I love your channel . I have a new love herbalism and I want to grow a medicinal garden I really hope I can grow these plants in Northern Alberta Canada
One way to keep bugs off your plants that don't need pollination is to cover them with a PVC or Irrigation tubing cage covered in tulle fabric. Birds and snakes can't get stuck in it, and bugs can't eat the plants.
Love you experimenting with growing the “won’t grow there” plants! We are on the border between 6 and 7 and have several micro climates..so it can be fun! I struggle with Rosemary, but she finally liked a protected spot near a wall of the green house. Love love love Tulsi. Got focused on the different kinds of holy Basil. My struggle is lavender… every time I go to planted I always end up killing it. It’s probably because I planted in my bed and I water my bags and that doesn’t need a lot of water just like Rose Mary. So my goal next year is to plant lavender and rosemary, near each other away from my other plants I think. Lol

I started my own cooking herb / tea / medicinal garden at my back door. Nothing big just a trial and learning curve. That's when I found out that I have field rats that will come up from my neighbors hay field and eat... hmmm, needless to say I lost almost EVERYTHING in 2 -4 days. I first thought is was moles/voles, but then I spotted one running out early one morning on my way to work. I still have my Greek oregano, 2 different thyme, a small sage, I lost all my cone flowers, lavender, and salvia. But that's ok, we live and learn. Gods way of showing me I need to learn more, that's when I found your channel. YOU and YOUR Mama are a great inspiration!!!! I'm hooked I find myself binge watching all your videos. I'm also planning my raised bed garden and I'm adding a section for more herbs. I've also ordered several books and some of the ones you reference to a lot. Wish I could show you next summer my before and after pic of the next garden. Keep the videos coming. I also keep telling my husband i want bees just enough for us and maybe enough to share some. but that's another project.

Making some catmint tea at the present moment. It popped up in my garden and I am so thankful. I germinated camomile for the first time this year. I also add basil to my tea and the mix is amazing!

Harvest some nettle and put it into bucket with water for 1-3 days. Strain it and use it to spray bugs. Its also used as foliar nutrition supplementation.
This is great 😊 it’s just that I’ve been working on a job for 27 years and have no land or time to do this growing up my parents had a garden it was small but we didn’t have a lot of land but of course we were thankful for what we had my mother knew a lot about wild herbs and healing plants I’ve got to get back into this it’s sad how America was a beautiful country but now it’s becoming a death zone with sickness so sad and wicked thanks for sharing their is still good heartedly ppl in this world.
Never feel what you do is work. What your doing is meaningful. If you work 21 hours in a day doing this no problem. Just make sure your mind and body is connected to the meaning on "WHY" Never forget this. One love from another person who is in the path of knowing the WHY

Walking through our field about 3 days ago I seen these strange flowers I had never seen before here. When I looked those flowers up they were passonflowers I was so thrilled so I called my neighbor and she came and took 3 plants to her house to have for medicinal purposes. We've counted the plants there is like 50 passionflower plants left in my field. Hopefully I can save seeds to start some new plants in my garden and leave those others in the field for my neighbors bees

I started my own little medicinal herb garden this year with just a few flowers and herbs but I’m looking to expand next year and I definitely want to plant feverfew and catmint. Got my herb dryer in yesterday. I opened it today and it’s so much bigger than it looks when you are using it. I expected it to be about two feet in diameter but it says it’s three feet. Great space for drying my herbs.. when I can find somewhere to hang it 😊. Thanks for all the info you share. I follow Jess too, she taught me a lot about gardening while I was recouping from breast cancer. Blessings on you both!
