As you were taking out bag after bag all I could think of was my mother saving things because they were still “good”. The couple were probably raised during the depression and throwing out bags like that would have been borderline sinful to them. I still like the anticipation of what might be discovered with each unbagging 😀

Yep my Grandmothers saved everything!

My parents were also kids during the Depression and it really did form their personalities. Their practice was: Save everything, you never know when you might need it. Empty bags, empty coffee cans, etc. Repair things instead of throwing away and when it's beyond repair, use it for shop rags or cleaning. And even when they got some new clothes or shoes, they didn't want to wear it because they were "saving it for nice", meaning save it for a special occasion or dressy event. Which they never went to! I had to tell my mom, this is as nice as it's gonna get, so just wear it.

I was going to say the same thing. In the older days bags were not so easy to.come by as they are now. Also there were not as many shopping centres as today. Bags were definitely kept. Its a sign of the era of the house. Very interesting. My Nanas would be the same.

Here is a little Tip for those of you who are occasional resellers who like to go to garage sales, Thrift stores or go digging thru " curbside treasures ". (In my case it is storage lockers ) to resell a few items... & ask the qstn " What is it?" There is a Facebook Group that someone suggested I follow when I posted a question on the FB Storage Auction Buyers. It is called "Reselling Resource Center for EBAY, Etsy, Poshmark... " (Have an item you don't know what it is-Ask a question) I had a pair of Nike Sneakers I could not find online to figure out some comps. I posted some pictures and asked if anyone knew what they were, description, model type etc... EBAY search didn't work. Within an hour somebody responded, told me what they were and had a link to this Nike story when they came out in 2012. I now have a Complete description of something I knew nothing about and have done some research on comps to get a price. The Nikes are in very good shape and I can probably sell them for $100. And this new Friend who found them for me said to reach out to him again if I need some help. I'm no Nike expert... so will probably be messaging him again.

The shag carpet pieces would be great for people who do different set-ups with their Barbie dolls. My sister is a vintage Barbie collector. She's very creative, she does different set-ups every few months and also changes things up seasonally. She also incorporates her Barbies, in Christmas garb, to her under-the-Christmas-tree decorations. I can imagine Barbie, Ken and the gang in vintage 1970s outfits on that shag carpet. It would be even better if that carpet was bright orange.

Did you know that carpet samples are very inexpensive and they are great for putting under your windshield wiper blades in the winter time with the carpet side down to protect the windshield from ice and snow. Also be sure that you take the smaller ice scraper that you have out of the car with you when you leave and place it on the driver's side front tire. That way you can clear some of the ice and snow before you open the door so you don't get so much snow inside.

People do collect bags and shopping bags from long closed stores. I have some Fiorucci bags and shopping bags from local now-closed department stores. Bloomingdales shopping bags, with the art work from a fashion illustrator, his name escapes me, are collectible. Lots of those old shopping bags are works of art.

I’m fairly certain the skis are for a doll, I have a vintage Walking Kathy Doll and I know they came with skis. The fabric piece in the wire frame is to go over a bird cage, usually put them on at night. When I was a kid I had a parakeet and my dad got me record to play that was supposed to teach it to talk, just repeated words and phases over and over. Instructions was to cover the cage and play the record. Even though I played the record all the time the bird never did learn to talk. My little sisters first words were “ Pretty Boy” though. 😉

I laughed when you said, "My favourite thing!" Immediately thought of Maria. But the lyric went, "Ephemera are a few of my favourite things" Interesting bit of trivia. I read of a girl back in the early 2000s who was a serious collector of vintage style. Before vintage became mainstream she would raid any and every thrift or goodwill for the well-made and chic clothing. She co-ordinated with modern pieces for a particularly unique (and elegant) look that constantly drew attention. Constant enquiries about her sources flipped a switch, that there was a demand. Over five or so years she created a small but decent online re-selling (as we call it today) market. In the end, when prices started to rise, and competition increased, she sold her enterprise. For $1m. I think she was East Coast, too. All because she enjoyed the hunt, and the rewards of careful searching for what she loved. It's a pleasant thought, that you're preserving that ethos through other means. And it's a trip to re-live my "pack-rat" habits vicariously through your channel!

Renee, It's interesting seeing the variety of stores she(it seems a she) went to for shopping. Not only do you discover their financial status(possibly) but you can determine the timeline, especially those places now out of business. I think that investigators scour trash and discover more about us than we may want them to know. I'm not paranoid but I'm going out and buying a giant trash paper shredder even though I've nothing to hide! If only more people could find the joy of discovery inherent in every day things. I thought it could be a dehumidifier but they need to open for cleaning and to replace filters etc.

The sweet notes would be perfect if Found Magazine still exists. They published fun notes like you found! Your channel is awesome! ❤❤❤

My grandma had green shag carpet like that. We used to take it to keep it fluffy. :) I was 15 days old when those ticket stubs were used.

🤔 keep checking. I aways think when people stop and pickup what's laying out, why don't they lift the lid on the can and just look ☺

I enjoy watching you go through the bags. If only you could hear me! Keep that. Throw that away.....Hahaha! I think we pretty much agree on most things.

This is interesting, thanks for bringing us along. It is very odd so many toilet seats are packed together with shopping bags.

Herman's Sporting Goods are long closed, think they closed sometime in the mid-1990s You never know what people collect. Of course, it they're collecting paper shopping bags, they'd mostly want them to be wrinkle free. :)

Oh I had a pair of those skis when I was a kid. You could go down hill or just kinda skate on a regular surface! They didn't stay on very well! Oh the memories! TFS Hugs!

Depending on what size and model that Etonic shoe box is for, it could bring anywhere from $10-50 just for the box. Again depending on the model and shoe size. Cheers!
