THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING SPARKLING HOPE! When I saw the title I thought “sparkling hope is awesome”. The whole video I wanted sparkling hope to win. I absolutely adore that level.
Silly thing: one person, merg, came along in 1.9 and said that the spikes in decode have nonexistent hitboxes and then people noticed and that's the end of it being hard
I would say Astronaut 13 by Minesap is a great remake. Good gp, is harder than original but not too much, stays true to the theme, but has new ideas and elements that expand upon the theme, especially the ending. It was my favorite NC level when it came out and I think it’s amazing, even though not many people like it. Sparkling hope is also top tier, and it definitely looks better than astronaut.
gonna be honest astronaut 13 doesn't have that good gameplay, I remember when learning the level I found it had some of the worst NC gameplay I've played 😭 I haven't played it since then so maybe It's not as bad as I remember
I highly agree sparkling hope is a really good Nine circles level! I saw a video on it and apparently the balancing isn't that good but some what consistent at times I can't really say if that is correct or not because it is way out of my skill level. But it does look beautiful it goes well with the song the sync is good and is apparently really fun. So yeah I would say this is a good nine circles re-make plus the hard demon difficult is iconic for being used for nine circles cause the 3 most iconic nine circles levels (nine cricles fairy dust and Jawbreaker) are all hard demons! once I become better at the game I should definitely play sparkling hope! glad you enjoyed making the video and it's good cause I also enjoyed watching it!
I think my main issue I have with sparkling hope is that due to my brain processing contrast way way better than colours, all the flashes basically fully reset what I had seen, so a lot of the time I just can't figure out where to go since when I notice where to go, the flash just basically makes me forget all that information since my brain focuses so much on contrast this is an issue I have a lot with the more modern levels honestly, recently came back from like a 6 year break and I cannot figure out where to go due to how little the background and foreground usually differ in terms of contrast, sometimes basically being the same exact tone in my brain, and ofc, flashes basically working as a way to completely remove all the information I had stored in my brain about the upcoming gameplay
Litterally 12 days later: Ring Trick (Full Showcase) It is personally my favourite Nine Circles level because of how original the theme is and yet how noticable it is that its a circles level. And the new ideas it brought to the board like ACTUAL CIRCLES STRUCTURES IN THE WAVE is absolutely mind blowing to me. The level is also harder then Nine Circles and while the wave pulsing effect is structured differently it honestly makes up for how original and detailed it is. There is clearly alot of love and care put into this level.
Speaking of nine circles levels, I just thought that I’d mention that I’m making one right now (albeit slowly). It uses nautilus by Creo, and will be 1 minute and 42 seconds long.
@@TearrsYT It’ll probably not end up being that hard since I want it to be quite accesible, and it probably won’t get fully finished for a while since I don’t know how to decorate.
Another banger video. Also love the concept of this review, a certain genre of gd levels fits perfectly as a video style and I’m ngl I have never seen this type of video concept other than the classic level review.
What defines a Nine Circles level is 100% its gameplay, not the deco. In fact if the deco is kinda new and uncommon (Aerial Gleam's case) just makes the things better, as it adds a ton of originality to the level itself. Not even Sonic Wave Infinity has nine circles deco, it features random flashes of the structures that doesn't line up in order to create a wave effect (in some parts), and of course no one would say SWI is not an NC. Same with Solar Flare, that IS NOT a standard nine circles flashing pattern, structures flash in a different order not top to bottom or the opposite. Btw all 3 levels mentioned in this comment are among my favorite
Really really good video, I love this type of videos with GD. Also, I think that your criteria was really good to find the perfect circles level, but not to find the perfect *sequel* for it. I think that a sequel for Nine Circles should be pretty harder than the original to make it like a second milestone after beating NC. Although, Sparkling Hope seems pretty harder than the original so I think that as a sequel would be pretty good too. I noticed you focused more on "finding the perfect circles level" than "the perfect sequel", so I guess the sequel thing was to make the title more attractive lol Great video dude
14:08 The main issue with nine circles entry extremes is that they simply don't exist - only one or two NC extremes (cerebral hemorrhage, Cat Planet) can be considered easy extremes and even then they are significantly harder than levels like Cataclysm.
thanks for telling me about sparkling hope, I beat it in about 400 attempts even tho my hardest is windy landscape lol it was actually very consistent.
great video! i like how you made the difference between the “perfect NC sequel” and the “best NC sequel” cause they are two very different things. while i don’t agree with your final pick, i appreciate the effort put into it and the time you took to check out our list even if it was for a minute or so :)
Question what is your definition of a nine circle’s level vs a level using the nine circles flash effect or is there a difference? I have heard of debating of if the gameplay must follow the pattern set by nine circles or must have beginning or end of the song(depending on song choice) with cube. Also having at least one drop be the wave mode and for wave gameplay to be the main focus of the level or over 1 third of the level. Also what about the nightkilla/rukkus songs being mostly mandatory? This is the one thing that confuses me about this trend of levels.
When you mentioned that in 1.9 everyone was bad at the wave, the same thing is definitely gonna happen for the swing copter because atleast for me, its kinda hard to control right now (i tested it in gdps editor).
Imo (not done with the video yet) Despacito circles is the perfect circles level, it stays true to the og style but adds new aspects to the decoration and gameplay which I like, it’s also a short hard demon so it’s very accessible to everyone and not to mention the song is a song that the majority of people will like because it’s not dubstep
11:40 it does but its so low key its just as if it wasnt there(at some points it does have the circles effect but those are super small and hard to notice)
fun fact is that i'm going for nine circles right now (82% yeah I choked the dual mini wave) and somehow I grew to be consistent at the 80% transition despite it being stupidso far I'd say that the worst choke pints are 16% (weird and tight ship clicks), 19% (that click is a graveyard), 41% (quick but precise wave clicks), 48% (same as 41%), 70% and 71% (weird mini wave gameplay + nerves), 80% (stupid transition), 94% (I swear that one click is so late and it's bothering me)
There was no preview mode back then too you had to play the level and use start pos to see how ur deco looked but atleast u could playtest the level in the editor
Cool video, Would disagree about the whole hard demon only rule thing, personally think hard and insane demons are probably the ideal difficulty (I believe anyone can beat windy landscape with enough effort, and that's an insane demon). And out of those I think quasar by allan, despite being a 2.0 level, is probably still one of the best ones out there (has aged really well). Sharp minor's also cool too, probably the best 1.9 circles level alongside solar circles
My favorite style for any level is nc, it is fun to build, is challenging and usually is just fun to beat, because I like wave. I’ve beaten every ne easy demon (which is in the he wiki) and have to say that zxcircles was by far the most fun one and probably the most fun one I’ve beaten. Sparkling Hope looks fun but I can’t judge enjoyment by how something looks
as someone who doesnt like a lot of 2.1 levels, i disagree tbh. i honestly think sonic wave is a better sequal, especially considering the impact it had on the community
nine circles is both easy to understand and create for it not having portal spam. its just so unga bunga cube ship ball wave that its so easy to understand. its such a good style when it comes to beginners. every creator should make a nine circles level at least once.
I recently played a lot of circles levels, and I found some good and bad ones, mostly bad, like really bad. So levels I'd like to highlight are SemiCircles, Despacito Circles, and Sharp Minor. I found all three of these levels quite enjoyable overall. So levels I'd stay far away from are Bakuretsu, AnotherCircles, Fairydust, Sweet Dreams, Classical (RayOriens), sharp, Classic, and Poltergeist. Also like the only other circles level that I've beaten, is tolerable, and around the same difficulty as Sparkling Hope is Sharp Minor. Edit: Removed, "Recently played recently"
@@byfakii1417 I'm glad you found Poltergeist fun, but I personally had a miserable experience with it. I could have beaten it in around 600 to 900 attempts if I didn't die to 86x2, 87x2, and 88x2, this meant I took 17 hundred attempts to pull it off, even though it had no buisness taking me that long. Call this a skill issue if you will, but it wasn't even my hardest when I was playing it. However, even before all of that, I still didn't like the level. For me, it was get to the wave, die at the same spot as last time, repeat. As I've reflected on the level, I find that this level can be quite divisive due to its extreme balancing issues, meaning that people can either get lucky and fluke it or get stuck for a long time. I think people should stay away from Poltergeist because of the possibility of getting stuck or should at least be aware of what playing the level can be like. Hopefully, that explains my perspective on Poltergeist.
i would still say its the official one, nine circleX even though its in the awkward difficulty range of high end insane demon and doesnt have a very prevalent nine circles effect, as well as having fairly divisive gameplay
I have some criticisms of it as a victor of the level. The full screen fading black effect is a bit annoying, making some of the timings harder. Also, the predrop feels a bit too long combined with the buildup not having that much intensity, but those are really the only criticisms that I have of it.
As a nine circles level enjoyer myself, I really liked this video. I have my own NC level in the works, and I hope one day my level becomes fully realized. It will be my mark on this game. I foresaw Sparkling Hope as the “perfect” NC sequel. I have a high opinion of the level, however I had an awful experience playing it ): . I also have this problem with how the community view Nine Circles levels. I am a player from 1.9 but I’ve only gotten good recently, and so I have this belief that NC levels are part of a *genre* of levels and not all remakes of ONE level. Maybe all the classic effect ones are, but some 2.0 levels, and most 2.1 nc levels are definitely unique. And so my problem here is that people want to stick to the original Nine Circles instead of evolving the Nine Circles “Genre”. The best NC levels I found stray far from the original, but maintain that classic spirit. And I believe the NC “genre” is limiting itself by trying to be a “remake”. Also I found Nine Circles itself to be a bad Nine Circles level isn’t that funny. All my thoughts here are all over the place. When I have the time I’ll sort this all out and elaborate further.
Honestly i agree with everything here. To me all a level needs to be a true circles level is a pulse of some kind on the blocks and a heavy focus on skill based wave gameplay.
respectfully, i somewhat disagree with sparkling hope as the choice just simply because it's too short. while i havent put in the time to search for these levels like you did (props btw), i dont see this being the PERFECT sequel, but a good one nonetheless. great video as always, too.
1:28 For me, I get overwhelmed by the 2.1 editor instead, especially having difficulty piecing the newer ones together. 2:28 This was the first actual Hard Demon I have beaten near the end of 2021 while the previous 3 (2 if you count me beating unnerfed Fingerdash V2, but then the nerf happened the year after.) got demoted. (Other two, Clubstep V2 and Hexagon Force V2.) 3:17 This part of the level is the hardest, no questions. Even by Medium Demon standards, I find it unreasonably harder than the rest. 3:28 Figures is also chokeable bad. 4:54 Whoa. 10:18 Ironically, I got more mad at Infinite Circles than Ultra Paracosm back in the day. Maybe I'll try it out sometime in the future.
Note: please take into account some of the easiest insane demons. They can also be awesome stepping stones. Example: about Sharp Minor difficulty. In terms of difficulty it still fits what you described, but it is an insane demon.
