that is true, but look at ivanchuk just blitzing out any old move, clearly not wanting to play; perhaps the same for aronian; once trust goes so does concentration and the game; hans needs to be given a chance to prove his rating against a 2700-set computer under direct observation; that should be a condition for any suspected cheater to be given another chance

All I know is that if I was Hans and genuinely was not cheating, I absolutely would play in a wild confusing manor to take advantage of all the accusers.
@shucklesors
@shucklesors 2 года назад
the problem with this current scandal is that there's a lot of comments like these from people who have never tried to actually put in hours to get good at the game. you can't just play in a "wild confusing manor" against other top players, not after it was so difficult for you to break certain rating barriers and get to certain places. its hard to explain this to people who have never tried to get good at chess (or are simply just so bad they cant). but an easier way to understand it is to see why, for example, no one plays the bongcloud at a serious game. or even most "cheeky" lines, without a very clear memorised line. when you move out of prep, you still cant just play wildly - if it's sharp, it has to be sharp for both sides. you cant really play non-human lines where it's +3 for you if you play a ridiculously uncalculable 8 moves straight while it's obvious moves for your opponent. so when someone does, it's just a bit too obvious. of course, for me i won't have the same intuition as a 2750 has in terms of what are "unhuman" moves the same way i do at my own rating. but when they all say the same thing, it's really not something to ignore. then again, like i said, if youre just 1k, there's nothing much more to be said to you.
@ZacWut
@ZacWut 2 года назад
The issue with that is Hans has cheated online repeatedly in the past. So if that were the case he would be partially taking advantage of that previous immoral behavior. If the cheating accusations were just the result of Magnus' actions and there was no history of cheating, then I would agree with you.

Yep agreed. I'm no chess pro myself but it sounds like these chess pros lose their mind anytime anyone does anything unconventional or that's not game-theory optimal. Hans is a young guy, maybe he's deliberately thinking of novel ways to deviate from conventional play expressly to confuse opponents who might be on "auto pilot" by creating board states that are unfamiliar. Who knows, but I think it's unfair to judge Hans as both a bad player and a cheater when really it could all just stem from his chaotic nature.
@feedingfrenzy4961
@feedingfrenzy4961 2 года назад
@@mortox2k I'm also not a pro, but from what I've seen, I think it's rare for top level players to confuse each other. They might surprise each other, but they'll usually understand what's going on after the surprise. Chess is an old game, and we have machines that answer our chess questions, so it's not going to be easy for someone to just come up with entirely new ways to play. And I don't think super GMs just go on "autopilot" during actual tournaments. Some GMs even play chess 960, presumably to encounter new positions and to practice being more flexible.

I think g4 is only crazy when you're at the very top level and conditioned to play the most critical moves in known structures. There is some precedent in dragondorf structures for this sort of move, but usually not at the very top level, and I think this threw Levon off as he said. I didn't run it forever, but at least at depth 46, multiPV 5, it's not a top move of SF Dev, or even Blue Marlin (tuned SF for kingside attacks). As for the responses, h6 isn't really human, but castling and Ne5 or Nc5 don't give white advantage either. Though castling there and trusting that the pawn is overextended/the knight will be okay on h5, is a bit speculative from a human perspective. Levon made the right choice.These younger players can get pretty creative. In my opinion, this move would be called interesting, off-beat, or creative if Pragg or Alireza played it, but when Hans does it, the drama brain turns on , and it becomes things like crazy or suspicious.
@juliusebola9712
@juliusebola9712 2 года назад
Well said. It's clearly not an engine move, which is why I think Hikaru would only say it's weird or strange and then not really elaborate. Also I don't know why Hikaru would immediately assume it's not prep. Hans blitzed the move out in 20 seconds seems likely to be part of his prep to me

i know this is 5 months old but you're not being objective by saying "this move would be called interesting, off-beat, or creative if Pragg or Alireza played it, but when Hans does it, the drama brain turns on , and it becomes things like crazy or suspicious" Plenty of great GMs heavily doubt him cause there's no such thing as a miraculous brilliance in chess. Not even for Bobby Fischer, Magnus, and other legends. The main problem is track records and progresses. Alireza, Gukesh, Pragg, and many child prodigies' track records are CLEAR, their elo/progresses and how they play OTB go hand-in-hand over the years. I'm sure if Niemann shows the same patterns, people would defend him and scold Magnus instead.
@GenericAssUsername
@GenericAssUsername 6 месяцев назад
Since we are doing the late reply thing. For one, I was giving my sense of it, not necessarily something objective. It's just that if you look at Hikaru's commentary on similar sorts of moves, he is a lot kinder to the others and has clearly seen that the roasting Hans strategy works, at least from what I see in the way he trolls him. I'm not really a Hans fan and think he's obnoxious, but it's unfair to say he doesn't have credentials. He's not as consistent as those others, but when he's on his best game, he plays great. There's been a fair few players like that in history. Ivanchuk who can and has destroyed any World Champion and also loses to 2200s sometimes, Nezhmetdinov who beat some of the best players of his era, and could go toe to toe with Tal in blitz yet never even became a GM despite there being the pool for it… Hans looks like one of these sorts, but less legendary. Not just IM Prof. Ken Regan of Buffalo NY, FIDE anti-cheat expert, saying so, not just StL CC Arbiter Bird saying so, not just the scanning from head to toe with two different detectors at the St. L chess club, not just Fabi saying in this 9/21 podcast that it's unlikely anybody is cheating OTB, but also consider this: if Hans Nieman had "wearable PC tech" or "embedded PC tech", which even Google could not perfect with their obvious Google Glasses (which sounds a lot easier to implement than something deep inside your body), if Hans has an "all plastic earpiece" that cannot be detected by a metal detector, if Hans has such sophisticated means, he could do an IPO and/or sell his invention to DARPA or the CIA and make a lot more money than trying to swindle prizes from chess, which hardly anybody follows even post-2020.

I stand with Magnus. You cannot just analyse a game to check if someone is cheating because if someone is strong enough like master level they would not need to cheat for every single move, even using the best move twice in a game is enough to dig you out of a hole or gain a +1 or +2 advantage which any grandmaster can convert. Hans has 100% reason to cheat especially if he did it before in money tournaments and has rent to pay.

@TernaryM01 2 года назад
The whole video is nonsense, and Hikaru should regret doing this. The move g4 is a bad move, as he already sees from the engine. It might be a crazy move, but it has nothing to do with cheating. There's no way Hans actually turned on his engine and the engine actually suggested that move. Hikaru did point out that the engine's top reply to the move is inhuman as well, but he didn't go on to check whether most of the natural human replies would give significant advantage to White: if that were the case, then there would be reason to be suspicious. But there is nothing like that here. He doesn't really analyze the game and try to make an objective assessment. Instead, he just looks for anything that he could spice up in the narrative that Hans is cheating. This is not educational. 👎 As to the move itself, there's a much better explanation for why Hans did it: It fits his playing style. Hans likes to push pawns. He did something very similar against Wesley in the Sinquefield, and it becomes the key move leading to himself losing the game. And if you think Hans is taking advantage of the situation by playing strange moves to scare people, he has every right to do so: that's just the nature of the game of chess. Bluffing is an integral part of the game, unless you're playing against a machine (which is by design incapable of getting bluffed, because it never 'believes the opponent').

I think we'd all prefer if Hans didn't get insinuations thrown his way as often as he does at this point.
