My favorite voice line is ogryn I forgot which one and cutthroat veteran. Ogryn says "ogryn is abhuman what's that mean" and veteran barged in says "It means ABSOLUTELY HUMAN" and 2 second pause later says "I promise"
This was originally going to be a showcase of my favourite personalities and voicelines in Darktide but I realised halfway through that they were all bloomin' great and that it would take way too long. The resulting vid is an abominable attempt to compromise and talk about how well it all fits together so enioy :D
One of my favorite hidden depths is with the bodyguard ogryn, for as many times he tells others to not ask questions and just follow orders he interestingly takes it on himself to ask why a Valkyrie came in on fire with the crew screaming mad. Makes me wonder if at some point he got punished for trying to be smarter then his station.
The thing about Ogryns is that they don't have much brain, but they make great use of it. The bodyguard is learning to think, and, for that matter, learn.
@@thebreadbringer it may be a stretch but he may be like a "below low" level psyker, cause ogryn psykers (yes they became a thing in lore after Psychic Awakening) gain intellect enough to even READ and WRITE and speak coherently, but of course with the whole added issue of being a psyker. But what if ogryn got like smallest bit of psyker power? I think thats what happened.
I'd happily watch "Making of" for 40k games in general and Darktide Voice Actors in particular. Empra-sent. Make it happen, Warhammer+, y'all clearly need ideas for content...
I, quite literally, run Shout Spam Veteran just so I can hear my very angry Cadian scream about his homeworld and vengance before laying into the enemy with a chainsword from his homeworld. It is...oddly cathartic. Emperor bless you, Cutthroat VA, whoever you might be, because you understand what those of us who play Veteran WANT.
Even though I like the Professional, I always find myself coming back to the male Cadian, and I have to use the Cadian armor sets for maximum immersion. The VA for the male Cutthroat is arguably *the* best in the game (although I may be biased as someone who has closing in on 10,000 points of Astra Militarum on the table and reads all the Guard books.) When using Voice of Command for the first time and he yells "FOR CREEEEED!" or "GIVE 'EM THE OL' KASRKIN DOUBLE TAP!", it was the hypest thing in the game. Theres also a charming moment between the Enforcer psyker and the Cadian that I've yet to replicate where the Psyker catches him smiling and the Cadian tries to deny it in an embarrassed way.
I like the conversation with Bully Ogryn and the male Seer Psyker: Ogryn: "Think i got a hole in my boot." Psyker:"Why of course you do! However would you put it on?" Ogryn:"I mean another hole, letting in water!" Psyker:"Well, why didn't you say so?!"
My favorite is when my Zealot starts talking about how he sees the other teammates as more of a family "-a charity case of course, but a family nonetheless." :)
I also really like the lines the characters say when they slay special, elite and boss enemies. It's like mini-celebrations of the kill they made and it makes it feel like the characters are active in what's happening in the gameplay
That "No! I'm right here!" at the end really caught me off guard xD I also got 800+ hours in game and haven't heard that one before. Sad downside of having constantly the same strike team line-up with your friends is that you miss gems like that due to same old personalities involved. Luckily FS added the option to change personality so I can mix things up at least a little from time to time.
I chose the Fanatic for my Zealot and she's proper insane. It's such good voice acting. Nothing compares to the Male Cutthroat. I use the ability and I feel chastised at the sheer anger. The VA put everything into those ☠️
The Cutthroat is probably one of the most deep characters in the game. Despite being a major asshole on the surface, hearing a lot of lines generally lets you come to the conclusion that the guy does care about his companions and tries to toughen them up through Cadian pattern tough love. He always advises caution, betterment, and focus even if he delivers them as insults. Furthermore, his small lines also indicate his veterancy as well. For instance, instead of using codes all the time like the professional, he’ll often just scream the enemy type if they’re incredibly dangerous (like snipers). Not to mention his massive death wish from losing Cadia. He absolutely hates Psykers though, with exception of the Savant due to his professionalism.
"SAR, I'D LIKE TO REPORT THAT WE HAVE NOT BIN AMBUSHED SAH" "Yeh? Do let me know if that changes" "YES SAH, I WON'T LET THE AMBUSH TAKE YA BY SUPRISE SAH" I really like it when Morrow has superiors on the call. I was chuckling endlessly when there was a group of stupid stuck up nobles observing the mission and I can almost hear him biting his tongue as he get more frustrated with them or when Ranik turns up and he's all "Can I help you sir" "No, I'm just here to observer" "Oh thank you sir, nothing helps a mission run smoothly like having the boss breathing down your neck . . . sir"
The lady that dose the ''EMPEROR GUIDE MY HAND'' line gives me unironic chills every time, usually It feels like a lot of women in games are a bit try hard in how they talk but by the god emperor I can *FEEL* the steel and fire in her heart when she shouts that line.
I think my favorite aspect of the voices is how they change based off your background choices. Playing around with it can make vibes from the same personality.
I just love how all the regets a huge tsunderes for eachother, even cadian vet shows some affection sometimes. Even in the grimdark there is a little spark of humanity still shining.
My two favourites are the Scottish zealot and the Cadian veteran. One is an angry yet comedic shakespearian man with my favourite voice line in the game “Blood for the Emperor skulls for the golden throne” being said with so much emphasis you can hear-it echo it makes me zealous for a fictional emperor. The other is the angriest soldier to step foot on a battlefield with every voice line being about heretic annihilation with voice lines such as “Not one step back” and “ I wanna hear them scream”
Can I also add that I find Hestia, Melk and Hadron adorable in their most excellent voicelines too? I've noted that Melk has a soft spot for Ogryns but is toxic to everyone else, especially Zealots that he advices to remember to hold the weapons the right way around, while Hestia obviously being a Zealot herself, gives great and inspiring words to Zealots and despises at least veterans for not being true believers. The best thing is when they start to argue across the hallway with each other. LOL Hadron is aloof and comes off at first as rather arrogant, but helps anyone she can nonetheless. These are all characters that brighten your visit to the Morningstar.
I don't know about Hestia yet, but Melk's interactions with you are determined by your personality choice, not your class. Each class has a personality he likes, one he doesn't, and one he is ambivalent toward.
I am a Hadron fanboy. I'd naturally have a biased toward the tech Priest in the group but Hadron balances those sassy, condescending remarks with some begrudging respect on board the Mourningstar. At least she's not lobbying to have you turned into a servitor by time you've finally ranked up your character. 🤣
One cool thing I noticed was that, when you're low level, the rejects are much more rude to each other. But as you level up, the game will use more amicable voice lines. I distinctly remember the veteran using "I gotta do everything myself" type lines at low level, and insulting the usefulness of the other classes, but later this basically stops happening entirely. Its also just cathartic playing characters that have that "you've come here to DIE" type attitudes. Its that power through a mix of sheer will and rage that makes it feel so good to activate a skill, have your character yell something badass and then cut your foes to pieces that few other games can offer. The voice lines also just help fulfull the class fantasy so perfectly. Veterans yell codes, inspire, but also bring that fatalist normal man in hell vibe. Much more casual about The Emperor and his worship, but not enough to get called a heretic Zealots never shut up cause charging also causes voice lines, even during combat, bringing that literal righteous fury at all times, even when other classes are silent during combat beyond "reloading" and such Psykers are always talking about weird or random shit, while occasionally letting it slip during combat showing the stresses of using psyker powers in actual combat. Ogryns are weird cause they're smarter than they're supposed to canonically be, but also have that amusing "simple answer to a complex problem" approach both in combat and in conversation. Often used as foils for exposition dumps, but also great conversations like My Ogryn trying to share his Nosh with a Veteran. A sign of great respect and trust given how Ogryn treat food. Big, Lovable oafs who always got your back.
Great video overall, absolutley love they voices in Darktide. I hear and somewhat understand the criticism that Darktide doesn't have any named/original characters like Vermintide or other CO-OP games like Left 4 Dead or Cod Zombies, and say that beacuse of that they lack any character. But personally I have to disagree since the voice actors put their heart and soul into their lines. They have this perfect balance of having banter between each other so that the missions aren't dead but just vague enough so that people (with the game's customization) can make their own original character. I myself could spend hour just personalizing my characters or even try to add characters that I have made before into the game.
On the topic of voicelines, my Darktide wishlist consists of the backstory you pick generating a blacklist and whitelist of dialogue options your character can/can't speak (aka, blacklisting Bully Ogryn's "Puny Cadia" lines when responding to the "Eye of Terror" conversation if he lived on Cadia, whitelisting lines of Loose Cannon Veteran getting codenames of enemies and items correct if you picked Progena or Elite Formation, etc.)
The end is great xDDD "No! Iam right here" XD The voicelines and the music are a big thing in Draktide. Next to the conversations between the rejects, i like the speech of the 6th Mobean commander in the carneval trailer a lot!! Every time i hear it, shivers runs my body. Another example of the great efford they put into it.
this is probably personal bias based on the composition of my friend group's characters, but my favorite convo I've heard is between the Bully ogryn and the Savant psyker. the way the Savant genuinely cares for the ogryn characters and emphasizes how they are to be treated with respect just like anyone else really shines through when the Savant enthusiastically asks the Bully what he wants to do to learn and grow as a person, and when the Bully asks to learn how to read the Savant is absolutely 100% down to do it with zero hesitation.
My zealot and my buddies ogryn had a funny exchange which was his ogryn saying that if anyone killed my character he would rip there arms off so they cant do it again, my zealot responded with "yes thats all well and good but they cant do it again cause i would be oh never mind"
I was quite shocked when what i thought was gonna be some normal voice lines turned into a full conversation between most of the squads characters, mine refused to join because it was an intellectual conversation and i was on my ogryn 😂
"What makes the Voicework of Darktide so good?" Ever played Vermintide? Voice actors give a fuck, and their studio has great equipment. Saved you 8:14 minutes of complete irrelevance / pointless ranting. Edit: Added to the useless upload playlist "MB Thieves".
A big part I love Darktide's voicework over Vermintide is just the interaction between the characters are so much more pleasant and fun. With Vermintide everyone was such a passive aggressive asshole to each other except for the Dwarf being the only laid back one.
first time i played dark tide, my left for dead 2 senses were in insane scizho alert more, non stop spitter and jockey sounds!?!?!?REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! to this day i hear the sound cue for melee attack i always think oh god acid coming in, but... now i like it :#
My favorite line is the ogryn saying that hadron is watching him only for her to voice in over the vix calling him paranoid. Even if she isnt the handler for that mission
Warhammer is such an amazing game, the voice acting, the music, the art and also even taking time to look at the walls. So much content but gets drowned out in the mania of the game.
I put 600 hours in because I like the immersion of being a cracked out, rejected, br*tish fanatic that is screaming at the top of their lungs while fighting for their life nonstop. I have zero regrets about it.
hard disagree about the personality thing, always seemed like the 5 would repeat the same 5 lines every six seconds...i *love* dts personalities tho lol
The only character voice i don't like in this game is one of the zealots. I dont quite remember what the voice type is called but he just doesn't sound very convincing to me, like hes trying too hard to sound like a religious fanatic. Always takes me out of the immersion when he speaks. When i compare that to like Saltzpyre from V2 its night and day.
True. New classes are always welcomed. Though, I don't know how they could justify them being of a different species. In Vermintide it was the end of the world, so racism is discarded when everyone is going to die in a few days xD
Personally, Darktide has good voice acting but terrible writing for it, a lot of the personalities feel like they had one or two jokes for them and then just search for many, many ways of expressing them. Ogre is dumb, psyker is your generic crazy psyker, fanatic goes from love the emperor to love the emperor and tolerate your friends and marksman, good lord i am a happy man i never have to hear a single line about fucking cadia and the general joke being, ogre is dumb and everyone likes him or at least tolerates him. While i can remember a shit ton of lines from vermitide that have either become community memes or just are funny when they happen, i honestly can´t remember a single one from darktide and its not really due to them being voiced badly, they just are incredibly dull and forgettable.
hard cut to a clip of them having the "flaggon of ale" conversation for the 100th time... i swear vt2 is the most overrated game ever made, darktide surpasses it in every way
