What Makes This Singer Great? Chris Stapleton | Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
Not only is Chris Stapleton a great singer but he is also a great songwriter, having co-written over 170 songs with 6 of them reaching number one.
His co-writing credits include joining the likes of artists such as Adele, Peter Frampton, Sheryl Crow and Ed Sheeran.
As a vocalist Chris spent most of his singing career in bands before finally launching his solo act. After releasing his critically acclaimed solo debut album, his career began to take off and he has gone on to win 5 Grammys and 7 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Chris’ rich tone is one of the things that really stands out for me and he just comes across as such a down to earth guy, it’s impossible not to like him.
In today’s video we’ll look at a montage of some songs and I’ll share what I think makes him great. I really want to know what you think makes Chris great too, so please be sure to share in the comments!

Chris Stapleton is fantastic. I was actually first introduced to his music through film. I remember seeing Hell or High Water at the theater and as I sat there watching the credits at the end I thought who is singing this song. It was of course Outlaw State of Mind by Chris. It was a perfect introduction for someone who primarily listens to rock and metal. It was a great reminder that genre does not matter. There are great musicians in every genre.

When I found out the original was done by George Jones, I had to check it out. George Jones was an icon, but I have to say that Chris did something with this song that George couldn't..... He added blues. One of my favorite Chris Stapelton songs.

For me what makes him great is the storytelling within a song. I hate the taste of whiskey, but I can almost taste it when he sings it. Anyone can be technically brilliant at singing - but being able to communicate the emotion, meaning and story are equally (if not more) important IMO.

I actually do alot of these closed mouth singing techniques naturally when I sing a Eddie veddar style singing and it comes very naturally to me. But since your program I've developed my own signature that I've noticed while singing allot of particular songs I grab runs that I've never done before and made them pop out But also, my highs are fantastic and are a highlight of the songs I sing cause I've learned to play around with adding highs to surprisingly low parts that are suppose to be low.

I think what's great about Chris is he doesn't seem to think too hard about runs or anything else technical while he's performing, he stays in the moment and just lets the song come out. I don't think he's trying to sing a song differently every time on purpose, he makes it feel relaxed and almost like he doesn't care whether it sounds perfect every time. The fact that it does speaks for his natural talent! That's what also makes singers like him amazing, just like I said on your Steve Perry video...consistency. It's one thing to sound great on a studio album, but to be able to deliver a flawless live performance every time? Not many can accomplish that feat. You know when you listen to greats like Chris it's gonna sound spectacular EVERY SINGLE TIME! Great analysis Ken, please do Peter Cetera next!! ❤

It basically means singing one word or syllable of a word on many notes in a row. In the first song, he sings lots of fast notes in a row on the word warm.

I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT CHRIS HAD NASAL SURGERY IN 2017. HE ADMITS THAT THE SURGERY DIDN'T ALTER HIS VOICE BUT IT DID ALTER HIS PERCEPTION OF HIS OWN VOICE! THAT HAS TO BE DISCONCERTING TO A WORLD CLASS VOCALIST. WOULDN'T YOU THINK SO? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR OPINION.

@@kentamplin Haha! Chris Kläfford had that style before he became a fan of Chris Stapleton actually. Chris won Swedish Idol 2017 and reached the semi finals in America's Got Talent last year. His audition, where he made a breathtaking rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine" has 53 000 000 views as of now. But I really like his original songs! He only performed original songs after his audition in AGT.
