I just really wonder why would anyone truly want to join any organization, where you have to come in with a blindfold covering your face, & have a very sharp knife/blade pointed at you, however symbolically, with men all around you, with no visible way to escape. This guy says he has a problem keeping Masonic religious secrets. If he WAS a Mason, then he has completely misunderstood what he was doing. When a Mason takes an obligation (or oath) he is swearing not to reveal the secrets of that degree. The secrets of the degree (all three of them) are NOT religious secrets. They are the sign, grip and word of that degree and have no religious meaning. Thats' all that the "secrets" are; the sign, grip and word of whatever degree is being worked.

I took all these murderous oaths to have myself killed sharing anything regarding the lodge. I went through the first three degrees to become a master Mason. I quit after 12 years.

@mariusdire As for politicians causing wars and economic melt down. Well wars tend to start when someone has resources someone else wants, you don't need masons on that one, likewise the economy. The economic climate came from investors lending to people who didn't have enough money to pay back loans, when that scheme collapsed it took the legs from underneath several large institutions causing them to call in their debtors who in turn couldn't pay (simplistic version).

@uniontory of course Christmas is religious. We don't discuss religion or politics in lodge as a rule because we want to avoid potential arguements. Since most Masons are Christians in the USA, Christmas parties are not uncommon. I'm aware that charity is not exclusive to the Freemasons, we do what we can to help our community as all good citizens should.

@buster19811 Not that I know, of course I don't know every 33rd degree mason seeing as the branch of the Scottish rite that is over here is considered pretty minor compared to the other side orders. Seeing as he's a convert to Catholicism I'd be surprised if he was a mason at all since catholic priests aren't supposed to give communion to masons. The papacy has never liked something spiritual or moral it doesn't control.

If you're talking about Grand Lodge, their minutes are recorded and available for people to read, same as with private lodges. As for infiltrated by Knights Templar, masonry in its current form didn't arise until the 1600's long after the Knights had disbanded.

@mariusdire The money side, yes a fair bit does go to helping the needs of masons who are in distress financially or medically, after all, the roots of Freemasonry best as anyone can tell is from a craft guild which would do the same, much as later trade unions did at the start of the movement. But once those needs are seen to the rest goes to outside causes, just because we aren't parading in the headlines doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
