What people don't get about Goku Black in Dragon Ball FighterZ...

I feel like Goku Black is a character that's tapped out/power crept. Teleport, dive kick, beam, better characters have this and more. Goku Black is basically a tutorial character because once you learn superdash fullscreen is punishable the 2H OF THE GODS eats it.

The SJ install mix is about the only thing that made me think he could be unexplored. Whether that mix is worth labbing out goku black is another question.

this is a really good video kind of opposite of the one of I made where I talked about how to make him better but where you state that if he can only use the system mechanics to open you up then you have to learn advanced ones like SJ install. This isnt really just a goku black video its more of call to action to explore things even if they may seem hard in the game. I see you LK I see you

I completely agree! Did the same conclusion the other day when I tried Black as point. Thought he excelled much better there than as an anchor.

once playing gohan adult i dragon rushed on a combo where i ended it with vanish , after i do those kicks in the air(air downfoward 1) and inmediatly press dragon rush (by accident) and ended on a combo and knockdown for a super , was really cool and never accomplished again

I don't play Goku Black but this has so much information and I hope that it shows some of the characters have hidden potential, And looking at not just characters but the game differently could open up new ideas and possibilities. Tbh I've been black since s1, and honestly I'm tired of hearing of the community say his ass but I can't really defend him cause if I compare him to Base Vegeta, Ui Goku or even Gt Goku he's not on their league. Hopefully with the balance patch coming out they can make him better or near the same level as the top tiers in this game. But thanks LK for the wisdom for the character.

I run him mid. He works well with at least one assist and it still lets me use his beam assist. My team is adult gohan, goku black and janemba it’s really good

I agree with this but everyone trashes me for it I saw someone use his 5S in sparking the same way Akuma uses hadoken in V trigger Maybe it's a gimmick or everybody else knows it but that's some tech I had never seen and it looked pretty OD

Me and my friend has been playing this since it came out and we both kept our legacy trams so he plays Bardock B, vegeta A, black A and he has been doing tricky stuff with him all the while, I play Z broly A, 16 A, ss Goku A, and I have a really hard time keeping up with him lol we stopped playing rank because we only play each other now but he's living legend and I'm ssb rank

I feel like his 5S should be like Nappa's, j.214L/M/H should have a sort of anti-air ability like 2H, but it just beats superdash, on block j.214L should force -2 on ground block, j.214M could be plus on block and the same with j.214H, 214L/M/H should be much faster and possibly get an overhaul where EX could be left or right, and 214S could be faster. He generally just needs all his options improved because by now almost every DLC can do the things he does better.

Is the install superjump teleport hard to do?

Arcsys, please make it so that super dash doesn't have more priority than godly severance

All they have to do is buff his command grab and his ex teleport. Make his command grab faster, at least 22-24 frames instead of 32. That way it’s fast enough to actually be useful. For his ex teleport just make it so he can choose what side he appears on that’s an instant 50/50 and make it a few frames faster. Maybe make his god slicer immune to ki blasts too. Also they need to change his dhc to his holy light grenade attack so he has better team synergy and has a better dhc. All these changes are super easy and would make him top A tier

Hey, and thx for the vid LK, im playing Black since the game came out. I agree to much Things you Just showed here. Personaly im playing him since season 2 on Point, cuz i realized back then that Hes not the greatest anchor in the game. The Main issue is, for the float Mix, you need a long blockstun assist. Otherwise its not safe.. And they took a nice thing from him away at season 3.. Bevore season 3, he could SD mid screen after the (i call it the "melee 5S"). Very Bad move from arcsys.. Also @arcsys please let me Use an assist while 214 M/H.. And make his 214h + on Block, like cooler... Black even dont have an DP.. So do this And im happy please 😃

I started playing Fighterz near the end of Season2, picked Black as anchor (cause him and SSJ were very pretty similar to learn/play as a newcomer). But eventually what got me to drop Black besides the selectable assists, is his neutral. Its too weak for as an anchor and his mixups in blockstrings despite being weak, I like the frame traps mind games he can setup to catch mash/vanish/jump or make it save to read a reversal and punish. I ultimately dropped Black for Trunks cause I do get a beam assists, Trunks 5S and 214S are strong neutral options and overal, Trunk's lvl1 and 3 are stronger than Blacks (given Trunk's lvl3 confirm into is not as easy as Black's, but Trunks is an strong defensive option). IF they made Black's specials a bit better, or heck, make 5S have the same priority as Trunk's 5S, I would pick him up again over Trunks; that change alone even if isnt too strong, gives me a good reason to add him again to my team.

I feel like he needs a rework, I like his dive kicks and of course he has the normals of the gods. What if he had counters for a character with zero mix he has to rely solely on system mechanics and a cheeky button press from your opponent imagine him having just something else you know what I mean

I've always said and I keep with the fact that Goku Black just is a good character. As said he does have great mobility and can get himself close to his enemies. Imagine that combined with crazy mix ups and zoning that people want him to be. He'll literally be a Bardock + DBZ Broly + GT Goku mix. Goku Black isn't meant to be zoning crazy like some characters. He's a combo machine made to do damage and mostly that. Mobility is just his thing to help with it. Having mix up mechanics may be nice every once in a while but even that has its own flaws. Low, 6M, cross up, vanish, assists, fake dragon rush, super dash, dragon rush, fake overhead to low and probably a bit more is all things that are mix up mechanics that every character has access too. Goku black is slept on like some characters was during the first seasons. Overall I've done quite a bit of comebacks with that character alone. Point, mid or anchor is all great roles for him. Put him point and he can --> do damage, give you meter for the next character and pressure if done right. put him mid and he have some meter he can utilize for some good damage with level 3 and other kinds of extensions that you may come up with. Put him anchor and he will do massive amount of damage by just using simple combos alone not mentioning the fact that if you have a level 3 spark on him as anchor he does even more damage. I like Goku Black and he is very easy to get started with because his kit is simple and easy to grasp and the fact that using him just feels amazing.

Don’t forget black has his forward ki blast. It’s hella fast and It catches people off guard. Throwing a slow and then fast is his best ki blast option. That or throwing two fast ki blasts and punishing a superdash.

How do you: Play with a vegetto blue? Combo with freezer? Mix-up with jiren? Even control zamasu? Pressure with beerus?

They really gave goku black and zamasu no buffs, so he’s going to possibly the worst character since every other low tier is getting essentially buffs.

honestly i think this game has way more to it than people care to explore, maybe in 5 years we will find out that android 16 has an infinite loop, or zamasu is actually the best character in season 2 but no one knew.

Goku Black has a lot of good tools. Give Black a 2LL, a faster command grab that you can combo off of, and a faster instant transmission to do a mix after a level 3 and he’s top tier.

Anyone know any pros/tournament players running him point or mid? I had thought knowkami had dropped him, but im interested to see if anyone has shown off GB's tech like those teleport installs.

Black it’s that good but it’s whatever at this point it’s not like he’s getting a buff and the SJ install isn’t worth it ain’t nobody scared of that also when better characters can mix you up easier and more consistently without the hassle theirs no reason to pick him unless you really like the character like me I’ve been playing him for forever and I know he is not capable of a real mix up without having to use resources

Sure Goku point/mid is better than what people think, but can't every character in the game also be better in the point/mid slot because they have assists to work with? Because his best assist is the beam assist, people are more inclined to put him in the anchor spot. And beam assist chars are generally played in the anchor slot. But anchor rose sucks ass because he cant do shit solo

I still think he is not that good, but you touched an important point when it comes to discussing characters: Tier lists are NOT the same if you talk from a competitive player's perspective or from a regular player'sperspective. Lot of characters are going to be low tier or middle tier for a pro player, but it doesnt mean they are trash for regular players, especially online. Considering that most of the time you can open up your opponent with a simple 6M assist or a DR, why would you need a super tricky mix up anyway? People tend to think they are going to play against Goichi at every game...

He’s not S tier, but he’s not c tier. As a day 1 black player we have all dropped him because he doesn’t have any new tech that’s all. The current black players are auto combo and 2H spammers. These were the people who couldn’t pull off his corner combos until Arcsys buffed it for them. As far as his cmd grab a real black player knows to not mention that. It was never meant to be practical. As far as his mix up in corner I have no issues with his mixups so I don’t know what you guys are talking about. A simple Ki blast one their wake up, forcing them to block or super dash is all I need. From there I can safe jump or usually just low medium because for some reason if you use blacks ki blast people don’t notice the 2M. I think the problem is players especially professional players just want his teleport to be OP so they don’t have to work for their openings. The want to bardock B and do mash buttons to get you open. You claim Bardock and Base Vegeta is base Vegeta is better than him. Last man Black versus Bardock\Base. Black wins. No one is falling for Bardock ki blast into ex lariat from neutral. No one is falling for Base Vegeta ex dive kick because players have spammed it so much it’s easier to counter now. However what you are going to have to deal with is his strong ki blast, his beam, ex god slicer that can catch you jumping on frame one and score a hard knockdown putting you in corner mix up. Bardock is a trash character and without assist he is C tier.

I think he's just really outclassed by the other beam users in the game except for SSJ Goku. If you want a better mid beam user you have Trunks and if you want a better anchor beam user there's Yamcha. I get the feeling Z Broly is also a problem matchup for him due to far better zoning and do many ways to just chew through Black's moves, then again I haven't seen many Black players around to fight Z Broly that much so maybe I'm talking out my arse and Black has some secret Z Broly counter.

Why play neutral when you can Ex Godslicer (or divekick) + Assist? 👌 I've been using him as my mid (with Yamchad Anchor) and experimenting him as my point and it's really fun. But still please buff.

i would play goku black if his command grab was 17 frames or he gains a 2l, his ki blast get z broly's ki blast priority, they change his level 1 dhc and god slicer get back the old scaling.

I’m pink square and I use Goku Black til this day. Fundamentals have to be super sharp and only make smart and safe play style.

A while ago I found this that showcased an example of putting Black on point/mid instead of on anchor. I think what would probably help him out would just be making IT a bit faster and not having the side switch be so telegraphed on the EX version. This is literally a funny video to me. I been playing fighterz maybe a month. Way above average already. But I made a new team. And just put black on point because of these exact reasons lol. After you learn his move set and combos I though it was obvious he is a point character. Without assist against a good player you will have a night mare opening someone up with him. I can’t imagine using a char as your anchor just for the assist cause anyone can get washed to there last lol. So yea he def is his best version with assist point blank. Running him as anchor he’ll no lol.

Everything goku black has that could potentially be considered a mix already exists on another character and is way better. The only thing teleport does for him is give him a 5050 off like kbuu assist, something everyone with a low 2l can do better. His slow ki blast is too fast for him to be able to follow it. And despite how "mobile" he is, his frame data on everything is ass and his neutral options are just neutered versions of the other gokus. Saying that his mixes with assists hasn't been explored in the 3 seasons we've had him is ridiculous.
