What's Causing Your Belly Fat After 50 and How To Lose It is more than just eating too much or exercising too little. Those are often not it at all. You may be eating too little and or exercising too hard or too much. The real answer is it all depends. It's a combination of your hormones, your stress, where you carry your fat and how. What else is going on with you is always a factor.
This will explain the common hormones and the mistakes that keep you in hormone hell. There's an answer to finding your hormone bliss though.

Thank you for your videos. I have been intermittent fasting, eating on a 16:8 ratio (16 hours of no eating, 8 hour window of eating). The foods I choose are low carb, healthy fats and moderate protein. Since January 2017, I've lost a little over 20 lbs. At 63 years old, I'm thrilled, as it's been quite a few years since I dispatched weight. It's so good to be able to see women of my vintage discuss these issues.

"Good" protein is ok. Especially if u are weight training. Curbs appetite. I limit Trans fat & bad fats. Some fat is healthy of course

This was great, I've been looking for "losing belly fat at 40" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Fanlevi Immaculate Eradicator - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my m8 got great results with it.

I have always been able to lose weight with changing my eating and mild exercises on my own BUT...now that I am over 60 I am not able to stay focused for more than a few days and then fall short to my lack of desire to look and feel good because of my age. I am 68... Your videos are inspiring and give me the added want to be the best I can be. Thank you for your channel. I will watch your videos daily.

I am 65, and I'm excited to have found your channel. Of course, I've subscribed. I need to start resistance training due to some osteopenia. Is there a particular video where you show exercises to help with this. Also, I am happy to hear and agree with your dietary advice as so many people believe that avoiding fat and eating "healthy whole grains" is the way to go. A low carb/ketogenic diet is what I follow and have lost a good amount of weight. I still have 20-30 lbs to take off and I really do think I need to add excercise to my regime. Thank you for doing this

This is so me! I have had an injury, an extended illness , and one of my teens had an extended illness . . . All in the last year when I turned 50. For the first time in my life, At the age of 51, i have belly fat and weight gain that is so stubborn. Debra, I have been following you on FB and UTube for the last month. Your videos and workshops are amazing! Finally listened intently to this video and WOW did it open my eyes! I am a 'pinch an inch' fat BUT LOVE sugar! It has always been my weakness. I do limit my starches and processed foods but sugar is my downfall. After listening to this today, I am on a new high to get rid of the sugar!!! Thank you so much for differentiating between the two fatty body types. It has given me even more incentive to cut back. Thank you!!!!!

You need only 50 grams of protein a day. Better to watch how many carbs you`re eating - and cut out sugar!

Yeah, watch what you put in your smoothies…lots of fruits are high in carbs…if you use a lot of high carb fruits like bananas, apples, oranges …you are taking in too many carbs and will be short changing your weight loss efforts. Count carbs! It will also reduce your cravings! Also watch Dr. Berg here on RU-vid tube…Verza helpful! 8:34

I turned 50 this past January. I've been menopausal for a year and a half. I had a hamstring injury a few years ago and fell and injured my back two years ago (nothing broken thank God) and so I've gotten away from exercising. The cravings you speak about are raging. : ( I've done nothing but gain weight and of course watch my body change in other ways due to the normal aging process. I've been searching the web for a while for things specific to these concerns and concerns for women my age. Thank you for your you tube channel.

I'm 62, always been active (and a size UK 10, have big dogs and walk them twice a day, though since caring for and losing mum, I've slowed down. So, for the past 6 years I've been slowly gaining weight. I am a goodfood freak and enjoy proteins, chicken, fish, low or no carbs, never eat sugary, salty or sarchy foods and won't drink contentrated fruit drinks, carbonated or alcoholic drinks. I also eat in moderation (portion control) and I've never smoked. Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Spondylosis have stopped me exercising hard, but I'm rarely still. I went through the menopause 12 years ago, without any problems but went from 8 stone to nearly 12 stone in the last 9 years. I sleep pretty well, get around 7 to 8 hours per night, live alone,have no family, nor major money worries, but nothing is helping and my doctor says I'm only slightly overweight and that I've simply plateu'd. I'm 5 ft 2 inches. I think 12 stone is obese and will cause further health issues. Can anyone help?

Hi all you wonderful ladies !!! and thank you for the great info. I am 65 and have been exercising all my life, but since I hit 60, there appeared this little(or not so little) roll around my waist(hehehe), which I am struggling to shed. I built up my own home gym and am exercising/lifting weights about 6 days a week. Longest time I spend is 45min, but mostly 30min. I do try to use the heavier weights and building..... Yet I am gaining weight. Not a lot, but I would love to lose just about 2-3kg.(hoping the extra weight is the muscle i'm gaining!) I am a vegan for the past 4 years and was a vegetarian for the previous 20 years(approx). Protein is NO problem for vegans. One can very easily get the correct amount per day!!! After all this yapping, I will continue with my weights and hope to lose that extra around the waist :)

emotions affects your hormones... and being 50 and over , you are not the same emotionally, To overcome your emotions.....you need to imagine that you are BIGGER than that thing that affects you....

I'm not concerned so much with losing weight..but I've got that belly gain and it's uncomfortable. Thank you for the very informative video. I'm pretty much vegan, so what is recommended for protein. I eat a good diet but my husband is a sugar addict making it difficult. He wants us to eat the same things. I just can't anymore, I love being fit and love greens, all things good.

I had a kidney transplant and with my immune suppressants I am getting excessively fat and feel can't get rid of . I am always stressed out and have sudden anger tantrums . I just want to lose this weight so bad especially that it started affecting my backbone and have joint pain .

Can you tell me why I / my body continues to look saggy and dimpled. I've been doing t-25 for over three months consistently, I usually have a protein shake and I've stopped eating passed 6pm. I am not over weight, but I am skinny fat and have been for along time. I have lost inches, but still see my skin looking saggy. What is going on???

I appreciate the in-depth presentation. Although I haven't looked at dozens of exercise/health videos, there aren't many as well-informed and well presented as these. Health and fitness is complex. Learning about it is not like gulping down fast food, being given bullet points, or only about YOU!

Pinch an inch body type. Exercise helps though it’s maddening how reactive & sore to touch this body is to wheat, carbs, sugar, too much salt, even non gluten. I would gladly take a pill that addresses all nutritional needs without the reaction than enjoy food. Food has become a burden at this point. Thank you for sharing your observations. Do you feel it is possible for a pinch an inch type in 40 - 50’s to have a nice tone w minimal orange peel bumpy surface and not that puffy reactive fat look without surgery?

If you have the pinch an inch kind of fat and you start to lose wont that leave you with flabby skin after losing, like in the belly? Also it's so hard for me to know what to eat and how much to eat if I'm going to exercise without it taking out of the body.

I’ve been in menopause since I was 38. I am now 48. The doctor wants me to lose 10 lbs. impossible. I do not eat sugar,, I walk everyday. I take probiotics and try to drink more water. I hate my Doctor.

So tired of the hype, eat this food one week it's really good for you, the next week it's bad. I eat what I like and think is good for me. No low fat, nonfat, etc. The real deal. Just trying to keep up with what is in trend for the week is pounds of cortisol straight to the belly. Moderation is key.

When you say eliminate sugar, do you include more healthful (presumably) sugars as well (in moderation of course), such as maple syrup and good quality honey?

maple syrup and good quality honey still spike insulin (which is the fat storing hormone) You would be better off with other natural sweeteners such as stevia, erythritol, monk fruit, etc.

Every nurse who works nights wonders this. I have found that having a good meal before I leave for work and then only having a small meal during the night helps. Reduce carbs with your small meal. In the am. I eat a small meal again before I sleep (toast, boiled egg, oatmeal). The idea of not eating and then going to bed doesn't work when you work night shift. Eat when you get home and wait one hour. Yes, it is so difficult when all meal plans, diets etc. are geared towards the 9 to 5 crowd. Your body should be in sleep mode when we are in fact awake and working nights. Don't tax your digestive system on night shift. Better yet, ask your skinny night shift co-workers what tey eat. Please help, I joined an athletic club 4 months before my 50th birthday. I went 4-5 times a week. I have gained weight and look and worse than before. I eat SO many greens. Please advise.

stop running around ! the most important is that you SLEEP well, if you not sleep well your hormons will be disordered aswell as your insuline.,reduce your stresslevels the way you like best! take good care off yourself. treat yourself on a good bodylotion eat several times a day little bits fruits or carrots etc take a walk about a half hour evert evening ,learn to enjoy life again

Denise Ray you may want to have your doctor test your thyroid. That will cause weight gain. You should get a complete physical, including blood work, anyway.

when you do muscle you gain weight, if you means you gain fat it's a problem with how you eat, sleep, also 4/5 times at gym it's maybe too much for you, don't forget to stretch. Have a nice day

I find Ashwagandha and Rhodiola help with stress hormones and imbalance.

They can be very helpful as they are adaptogens. It's unique to each individual - they don't work the same for everyone. Some are more sensitive and have to be careful of timing and interaction with anything else you may be taking.

I am 52 and am doing exactly what you described: Been active most of my life, kept weight within 5 pounds of normal wt. Also store weight in midsection, arms fatty (used to be muscular because i wt. trained) and bottom fat. How would my daily diet look? I know you mentioned: no sugar, no startchy veggies, lower carbs. How do you do that when you said yourself we crave sugar? What do my workouts look like now? On other video you mention, heavy, power, and functional. Plz give me some examples of a typical day you would prescribe for me. thx

+Laura August We mostly crave sugar only if we're eating it and or a sugar substitute still causing the desire for sweet. Increase you protein and increase your fiber at every meal. Don't eat sugar- or foods that metabolize as sugar alone. e.g a fruit...have a bit of nut butter with it, or include in a high protein smoothie. Most of my clients lose cravings within days of increasing healthy fats at every meal, increasing protein (particularly at breakfast) and increasing the amount of veggies they eat. It takes a short time. I can't answer your personal daily diet... without testing you- you have to go through an elimination few days or up to weeks and then reintroduce foods that are your biggest possible triggers. Make friends with steak and salad for dinner. Not too hard to do. Omlettes, baked chicken, green bean cassorole, cottage cheese with tomatos, greek yogert with green onions and cucumbers, bacon and eggs, pot roast and carrots, beef stroganoff with mushrooms, (no egg noodles) smoked salmon with cream cheese, shrimp cocktail, shish kabob, cheeseburger with all the trimmings (remove the bun). Chicken or shrimp alfredo, (no pasta, just the meat and cheese,,use fresh spinage instead of pasta?). Use your imagination. Limit your fruit consumption to 2 a day. Treat bread, pasta, rice, potatos as you would a dessert, eat AFTER you have your tummy full of protein and veggies, and in small amounts. Got a real madness for sweets? Sugarfree chocolate pudding with almonds or walnuts (preferably made with unsweetend coconut milk, or plain cows milk) make your own whipped topping with heavy cream, vanilla and splenda, or sugarfree jello is good..Natural peanut butter with an apple. Coffee with sweet and low, real cream, (or unsweetened coconut milk) and a shot of vanilla. This is what kept me the same size 3 for over 40 years. Avoid sugar and corn syrup as if it were poison. Also, most importantly, anyone who tells you artificial sweetners will make you gain weight does not know wtf they're talking about!! Ive used sweet and low and splenda daily (and the occasional diet soda) for decades now, and am still the same size I was as a teen. Size 3.

In addition to cutting starchy carbs and sugars, exercise sensibly as she said. Remember you burn fat evenly so a total body workout before targeting areas to tone.

Your vids are probably the most accurate and insightful for over 50 post-menopausal women who aren't looking for short term fixes. Thanks for the comprehensive information - very much appreciated! Yes , mostly because of being married to a chef who also is bringing sweets home everyday knowing I have no will power, I’m a out of sight out of mind person , combine that with my foot pain and lack of sleep , I can only bike ride for my cardio , I have to have dinner at 5 after that my sleep is crap I have to make my own meals , also I have to be on a computer a lot , I was thin my whole life until last 5 years , mostly since I got married to this Sabotager , my stomach is so huge I look like I’m having a baby I never would have thought I’d get this fat .. I refuse to buy new clothes , I wear all my biggest clothes . I’m like a 12 I think my normal clothes are a 4 and 6 ahhh 😦 I’ll be 54 in Oct I have to lose this soon , I know keto works , but I hate meat 🥩, I’m more of a fish eater so I’ll do a keto with fish and no sugar , I use stevia , in like two weeks 10 lbs comes off but then here comes my husband with sweets again , I bought him a mini fridge to keep his crap in , it’s like he wants me fat but then makes fun of me .. I hate him , plus he stresses me out . I have to lose this weight it’s not me to be fat, I will !! Forgot to mention the newly heavy periods and sometimes twice a month or none at all . Ahhhhhhhhh Good thing is I don’t get 🥵 sweats

A vegan diet and exercise works for a lot of women. That means high carb low fat. Because of a significant history of cancer in my family, I had to eliminate meat and dairy. I have not seen any weight loss so far. My stomach sticks out like I am 9 months pregnant at 62 years old.

I haven't seen high carb and low fat work for many women long term, Karen. True everyone is different. However, the hormone response in your body is fairly similar when we're given a changing diet. The right kind of carbs helps. Timing also is crucial- in coordination with your hormones boosts the best response. You might want to get lab tests done on your hormone levels if you've changed all your lifestyle habits for the better and then responded with more change if you didn't see and feel great energy from it. Test, don't guess.

Thank you so much for your response. I am due to get my yearly lab tests done. I am adding in more walking and finally I lost a few pounds. Still look very pregnant at 62 though, will keep working on it.

Replace your oatmeal/fruit breakfast with eggs and strawberries, chicken or tuna with a tomato for lunch, and steak or fish and salad for dinner, and a small amount of nuts and raisens for dessert. Eat until you're full don't skimp. If you get a jones for sweets, try sugar free chocolate pudding, or sugarfree vanilla pudding with strawberries. Try it for two weeks (with your doctors approval of course) and you'll most likely see some improvement. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your response. There is so much cancer in my family, not me so far, that I decided to cut out the meat and dairy from my diet, which is known to cause cancer and heart disease. That leaves me with a whole foods plant based diet. I have been finding good recipes lately, so hopefully it will work for me.

Sadie Mae There's a specific recommendation per meal for protein Sadie for adults over 50 -it becomes more important even as we've been losing muscle easier than gain it. We've got to individually test and assess food allergies and tolerances rather than give a blanket "diet" for all. We have unique biochemistry and our micro biome changes with stress, illness, meds, and hormonal and lifestyle factors. Glad you have found something that works for you. We want a forever change however, not a one or two week change unless it's testing temporarily to tell us the permanent solution. Sugar cravings (articificial or real) are information your body may be nutrient deficient. Instead of feeding them, it's best to find the cause of the craving for optimal health.
