For me, it's the perfect light and compact travel brewer, the Aeropress! Plus a JX Pro. Though I did pick up a Pro 2 recently and will probably be bringing that on any future trips that are over a few days.

I agree, I wonder what his day job is to put out such great videos but only have less than 20k subs?? Such high quality I thought maybe he's a big thing on Instagram or something, but less than 20k subs there too. Don't understand it! 😂

@@damonc203 thanks for the kind words. It’s probably because I only post 1 video a week and I’ve only been doing this since the fall of 2020. I’ve also found the coffee community to be interesting in that if not Grey haired and red glasses, there is a lot of hesitation to hit that red subscribe button 🙃 if you catch my drift lol. All good, I’m honestly just happy to be here!

I actually carry a 20mm ammo can with a barista organizer I made myself. Holds a Fellow goose neck kettle, 1zpresso k-plus, Hario coffee scale, AeroPress, Moka Pot, 1L steel French press, 12oz mini steel french press (for frothing milk), two 16oz Tarvis coffee cups with lids, two plastic Hario v60s, two 16oz coffee bins, and a few other bits and bobs. I also carry a Flair Pro 2 in its case depending on what's going on. Although I'm looking at a JoePresso attachment for the aeropress so I can have something closer to espresso without carrying the Flair.

Looking forward to the Robot video. In my own experience it seems like preheating (pour hot water on top of the coffee and screen, discard, and refill, and pull the shot) Negatively impacted the taste. And not much of a noticeable difference on preheating the piston. Which you can more easily do by either pulling a blank shot or put the Aeropress plunger in the portafilter spouts. Though that can make a little bit of a mess if you over fill.

You are spot on sir. I just got back from a 2 week trip to northern Colorado and the AeroPress was exceptional. Especially with the Normcore hand grinder you recommended. Such high quality on the video, especially considering the on-the-go nature. Personally, I use travel as an excuse to take a break from brewing-in and getting some speciality coffee on the go. However, in a cabin situation such as yourself, it'd have to be a hand grinder with an aeropress, just to keep it light!

Hey man, super off-topic, but what are your thoughts on home roasting with something like a Behmor? I moved to Japan and good coffee does exist, but it’s an hour away and costs …lots of money. I can do local, order from the states and freeze some (will arrive 2 weeks after roasting), or get into roasting. Thoughts?

I’ve been roasting on the Behmor for years and love it. I order greens from SweetMarias and primarily focus on light roasted Ethiopian and Kenyan lots for some amazing fruit notes. It’s a great roaster, but stay below the full 1 lb load for best results.

I would like it if you could do a brew guide for the Stagg X(F), I have one but am not impressed with it's performance with large brews. I know you said it isn't the best for larger brews, but I would still like to see your technique because I really want to be able to travel brew with one. I don't like using the Aeropress because it is basically a small single cup brewer. My wife and I drink large cups and enjoy 500ml (250ml each) in the mornings, and we can kind of stretch it by using a Clever and 400ml, but I would like some alternatives from an expert.

Also, as a coffee addicted person who travels with car and long distance, I think X-Bar is the best suited for espresso maker in the car. I haven't had the chance to try it, but it seems doesn't need to have an additional effort or making space in the car for making espresso. Just fill it, then go. It seems it's easier than even Nanopresso (which I used but not anymore) or even Picopresso. But again, price is different.

@@KyleRowsell sure it is, I even brew V60 in the car with so much difficulty, but this is a serious option for car brewer. I even suggest making an "in car brewing gadgets and solution". You may want to eliminate all the Flairs at the beginning. For example, in car you don't have an even or flat surface, pre-heating is an issue, how to weigh your coffee in car w/o flat surface. I challenge myself as a driver everytime, and it's fun. And you may conclude French press is the ultimate solution 😂 and way better than V60.

I got that new chestnut x grinder a few months ago and honestly it is such a beast in terms of build and output. Don’t see a point in upgrading from it for a long time

@@KyleRowsell I did, I was hesitant to put it on since it’s pretty much a sticker and it’s not the highest quality leather in the world, but it was hard enough to grip that I threw it on there. The extra leverage made a huge difference especially with my smaller hands

Almost all the things were super luxury, which are hardly affordable to get. I suggest instead of picking one, introduce variety of options, which are affordable, durable and made for coffee. For example, there are bunch of scales out there, there are number of kettles (electrical/stovetop). Doesn't need to be high-end for cottage.
