We've received an exciting invitation to join a Mini owners club track day at Snetterton, providing us with the perfect opportunity to put Neil's brand-new Electric Mini Cooper S to the test in a real-world scenario. While we're well aware of the typical challenges associated with electric vehicles, such as the need to locate charging stations, what happens when you have an electric car that's designed to be compact and speedy and not travel long distances in one charge? It's worth noting that Mini has used the same chassis as their petrol-powered cars for this model, resulting in even smaller batteries!
Join us as we embark on this modest 200-mile round trip, a journey that should be a breeze for most cars. Let's see how the Electric Mini Cooper S performs on the road! ⚡🚗

What you said about the inability of the grid to cope with electric cars is a myth. See what National Grid have to say about it. On a positive note you can drive one of these in a very antisocial way and still get 80 miles plus out of it. And bear in mind most people will always be able to set off with a full battery.

I’ve been electric for 6 years now. Car cost 7.5K. Saved £100/month in petrol and servicing = £7200, so it’s paid for itself and I own an asset which I is still worth 7K.

I have one of these too, best you don't believe what the dash says it's hopeless lol, they can do 120 miles pretty easily and you can stretch it to 150 even in sport mode if you're sensible

Exactly. My wife and I joke. The mini lies about how far it can go. In a good way. Our Tesla is the opposite

Why make a big deal about the range when you know the range. If you plan on lots of road-trips this isn’t the car for you. This is for that bit about being worried all the time is straight hyperbole. As an owner that’s a massive exaggeration. If you are gunna take a lot of long trips the mini as your only car isn’t for you. If you bought a lorry just to drop the kids off at school it would also be dumb. EV’s are awesome but not for renters and this ev isn’t for long trips. But most people need not worry as the vast majority of people don’t drive but 40-50 miles a day.

I am not convinced by electric yet. The plug in grant has pretty much gone, and even a “cheap” EV like this is £27k. I have a Clubman Cooper S ICE and love it.

The window of time the grid is proposing is half an hour - so if you're setting it to charge and it needs to allocate it to someone else, the max time you will lose is half an hour. With a car like this (and most others) you'll charge overnight, so it won't have any noticeable effect.

Charging a car is like powering a decent sized A/C. The gris handles that.

Set your units to miles per kilowatt hour then you can work out the mpgE easily. I’m getting 4.5 miles /kwhr in my Cooper S E which works out at about 170mpgE - try doing a few traffic light Grand Prix and you fossil powered friends won’t know what has left them standing - maximum torque from zero and no gears at all to change……… oh and where I live I’ve spent the grand total of £24 on charging since November 2021 and covered 6400 miles for that, but I get free public charging in my local town 16 miles away and have the ability to plug my Mini into my solar panels to charge it……
