I remember this struggle , i still have it at my 30s. I was always jealous for people who knew what they would become at start/early ears. Unfortunately it was not in my case. I eventually came up to an idea that "interest" itself is the core instinct in our "soul" that guides us to harmony of some sort, we just have to do the blind search using it. Sometimes there are things that we cant do well - like i used to work in logistics and i could not rid of a thought that it is not mine, while other people were pretty comfortable on their places, and this was a horrible feeling. Eventually i came up to the design niche, and i like the fact that you can learn so much stuff, and this process is basically eternal. And creating something that someone will use - makes me feel ok. I'm still at the point of a start, but at least it is the way. So what i'm saying is - keep the search, eventually something may click and you will know the way at least. About youtube - i think you have to be more realistic, if you want to make money of it it may become a messy swamp, and we - your community will have to watch an awesome creative personality force himself in to this mess. But, maybe if you will find a way/sort things out and make it fun for you and entertaining for people - maybe it will work. I just dont want to sound restrictive about this idea of making money w youtube. Anyway you are an awesome dude, and i still come back to your channel from time to time just to listen you play, and that says something, because i have like thousands channels and you are the one that i keep coming back to. PS. I always liked the way you create your tone, and licks, but you basicly have not that much content about it. I play through old small home amp, and sometimes use plugins but i'm really not that good at shaping the sound, i never was interested in this actually, i always thought that sound comes through fingers and intervals that you use to create something musical. But your channel proved me wrong at least partially. So i was wondering that it would be awesome if you could consider making few in-depth tutorials about shaping that kind of clean/dirty guitar tones, and your approach of making music/riffs, what scales/chords, theory stuff you use for making music. Just for the sake of history of this channel, because i'm sure i'm not the only one that watch you just because of this) I never liked that GAS syndrome stuff actually, always thought it is for people who dont really like music and buy guitars/pedals/gear just for the sake of collecting/show off - it is ok if the one enjoys it but to me it was always very cool to watch a person with one cheap guitar and few pedals/plugins create a whole world of sound, show their soul through prism of knowledge, technique and discipline. Anyway pardon me for the long text, i wish you best, you are a cool dude and great musician. Remember simple people can be happy doing simple stuff and this is why we are jealous to them, but if you are smart/intelligent/creative - this is a bless but also a curse, that means you will have to search for more niche stuff that will satisfy this torturing hunger.

These are definitely thoughts that I have as well too, and I barely use social media or am actively on RU-vid. But, the joys of RU-vid are that you can create what you when, when you want. Why does your channel need to generate a profit and why does it need to be a full time job within a certain genre? You can absolutely do what you want with your own channel as a hobby. Not everything needs to be monetized or become a full time job if you cannot agree to the environment surrounding being a RU-vid sales person. When I found your channel, I liked that you were showing your original music, you were demonstrating guitar modifications and building processes, you were demoing things. It was cool because it really seemed like you were doing what you wanted, when you wanted. When you disappeared, I didn't notice but clicked on this video as soon as it appeared on my dashboard. I think you have a good community here and people will be around for it when you want to release content. Do you, in your own time and at your own pace. Also, good luck with the recovery. As a skateboarder and mountain biker, I've had my share of breaks and bruises. Take the time to heal. That's what's most important.

Hope you'll have a quick recovery🙏 maybe you could get guidance from a career counselor, helped me a ton while I was looking for a path of my own. love your content and attitude towards music♥ I still remember your guitar building videos which inspired me to learn guitar design in CAD (and i did) ... so seek out help, you'll make it :)

First of all I hope you have a fast recovery and get back on youtube as soon as possible. Secondly I want to thank you for all the cool and informative videos where I learned about gear, tone chasing and even guitar making and maintenance. I was looking for an affordable 8 string guitar and your videos convinced me to get an Ibanez RGA8 and I'm really happy with it so far. Your channel has been through a really interesting process of growth and I am glad that you chose to stay true to yourself! Stay strong and inspired!

I really miss the old Soulhenge brutally honest vidéos. Yours and the Plages Scythes Studio's one are one of the best in the game. I would find interesting to have tout take on new products ( at least the innovatrice/interesting one like the boss me 90, not interested in the billion of new mooer things and the trillion of chineese copies of it) Otherwise musical content other than reviews could be great, like tutos or pure music (love tour last album btw) In the end, do what makes you happy

You've put into words what i've been feeling. just 'done' with youtube disregarding creators (i can't even turn ads off) and i'm pretty sick of pedal demos. A LOT of life stuff has been going on and i'm just not sure what I should do. It's a lot harder to find things to make videos on and that attitude contributed to me just burning out. the era of 'youtuber' as a career is over, i think. I feel guilty for not posting videos, especially as I just hit 1k subs- but I just can't bring myself to make a video on my new stuff (but loads and loads of stuff has been sold too). Get well soon, dude! take your time and come back when you feel there's something you want to say.

I first discovered your channel for the custom build videos and some of the Ibanez reviews. But I really enjoy the music , I see a lot of channels moving away from specific topics and leaning more into almost vlog and just whatever that creator is interested in . The subscribers that stick with you are interested because they like your presentation and personality. They’ll probably enjoy whatever you choose to do on your channel . Do what ever interests and inspires you and hopefully that will make you more content with your content lol

I really enjoy your whole content and every single video, even when you do a sponsored video like Neural or PCDSP it always has something special to it, added value if you will. But don’t force yourself to do something which is not good for you. Maybe start something on the different platform (discord, twitch etc) or totally different environment. Don’t worry about the “real job” you will find it sooner or later but answer yourself if you can now sacrifice your passion or put it on the shelf and you are ready to focus on something totally different (or more pragmatic). The best decision will be the one which will give you a boost to keep moving forward. Best of luck mate!

Hi man, I just wanted to tell you that I have rarely met someone so thorough and dedicated in what he does and what he loves to do. I understand your overall feeling. I myself am at a point in my life where I wonder what is good or bad for me, to know in which field I will orient myself professionally speaking etc etc... we are still young and I think that is part of of life. it's scary but whether it's me, you or everyone else, we're bound to come across the right opportunity, doing what we love the most. I wish you good luck for the future! and to anyone reading this comment

Hey Milian! I'm rather the "quiet" follower and watched nearly all of your videos - I just really dig your approach to video making and in my opinion your content is extraordinary good! Nonetheless I really understand when you describe your feelings on social media, accumulating more and more gear etc. - I feel the same. If you decide to quit social media I fully understand your decision, but out of rather selfish reasons (I just want to see more of your Videos?! :-D) I would like to see you here on RU-vid in the future. Now that the above is out of the way, keep on getting back on track again after your accident and hopefully till next time :-)

Man, thanks for the update, wish you all the best! I really feel you on this topic and I encourage you to take it slow and cutting stuff back if needed, cause your mental condition is the most important thing. If that means to stop with social media, if that means to sell a lot of stuff, whatever, it'll be worth it. We live in a weird time rn and it's ok to feel lost or overwhelmed sometimes, cause who doesn't? Also hope you're recovering quickly!

Sounds like you should read Essentialism by Greg McKeown. It's a great tool to help you focus on the important stuff among all of the clutter of everyday life. It has helped me get through some tough times and helped me making hard decisions with a lot of clarity and a minimum of worry. I highly recommend it.

I think the middle of the road thing you can do, having sponsored content while still making music would be to make "user generated content" technically just a demo with the gear provided, no playthrough, no talk etc... The downside is that many company wont like that very much as talking about the product and everything has a higher conversion rate.

I really know what you mean with social media, it really is such a distraction and and energy thief. Especially because they show you every trash without even asking (most of the time advertising) or stuff you really dont want to see and you can do nothing about it. I did some things too, to not mindlessly step into the social media trap, it is a little bit more controlled right now. I wish you all the best for your future decisions and a quick and complete healing! :)

as far as i'm concerned, I did not subscribe to your channel for the sponsored videos or the videos where you are trying to sell people gear. There is enough of that shit on youtube. I really enjoyed the videos where you built your first headless guitar from scratch, restored those ibanez guitars.. even back in the day when you just used this channel for the soul henge stuff. Like it has inspired me to get into doing luthier work and modding guitars etc.. For me personally, I think you have lost your way at some point.. maybe paying too close attention to trying to make an income from youtube? I don't know. If you want to do sponsored videos, use a product that you actually give a shit about and not another 5150 amp sim that the company 'will change the world' with. I do not know if you can make the same income on just making videos that you actually want to do where you can be creative. But I believe it would bring the community back together. Get stuck into another build or modding project where you do like a multiple part series. It felt like you had a real passion for luthier work, whip out the old blue carvin and chug, anything to bring back the old milian from like maybe a year or two ago. Sorry about the long comment, but I have been a fan of yours for many years and it is sad to see how lost you are at the moment.
