The giant beetles are actually a good fit for Aegyptian style undead - representing scarabs. My Kings of War Empire of Dust army is led by a Paraoh named The Sun in Glory, his wife/lich is named The Beautiful One Has Arrived, and their son is Child of the Sun.

I think the “diorama “ piece was a fancy way to get the added unit of deinonychus riders to fulfill the army as they can be separated from the diorama

If I remember right, they are still gonna do titan units, but they decided that instead of EVERY legendary release they were gonna do something like the dioramas. Which to me makes since because titans shouldn’t feel like a common place thing to see so having five or six titans for a faction doesn’t make sense, but I do agree that every faction should have at least one or two.

That is correct if you look at the Soul deamon of change for instance there is a standard and an epic soul deamon. They are swapping adding epic soul deamons variants (there are not any rule differences) with dioramas that have units or gear that are missing in some lists.

I didn't see the problem with the other cute pets, because it was easy to just not print them, but these seem to be part of the model? That said, if they had some rule where they could summon insect swarms, that might make sense?

That's a good point. The other ones weren't physically attached, but these new one have a "no buddy" option, so it's still up to you.

I don't like the buddies either. There are always versions of the mini with and without the unwelcome passenger but I just don't get the appeal or the reasoning behind it..

Mini wargaming is already having trouble moving physical, and it seems the market doesn't really desire physical, seems like a bonehead move. I am still a proponent of a tier 3 for patreon that gives a license to the patron to produce and sell.

Little off topic, but for 3 player grimdark future battles what size table do you use? I dont want it to be too claustrophobic so is 6x4 enough? 8x4, or some other dimensions?

I've done 2k points on a 6x4 and that was about as tight as you'd want to get. You could either widen the table or reduce the army size.

Okay bud, you are being a fuddy duddy about the buddies. All the models that have buddies come with and without, so if you don't like the buddies you can print out the exact model without it. Lots of people like 'em. No reason to get fussy about this.
