What the HELL is Renny the Fox? 

Hey guys! I have some corrections and new info about Renny: -Oniria Studios isn't French, it's from Luxembourg -I used the Portuguese cover art of Renart on accident in the video and said it was French Again, I'm sorry about the mistakes. I strive to provide accuracy with my videos. The source material was definitely lacking this time around though and that made things difficult with nailing details down. Thanks to those who emailed me about the corrections!

Renart’s design is actually really good, shame his movie is so bad

I read those stories when I was a kid. Little interesting fact: Foxes used to be called "goupil" in French but the stories were so popular that they changed the common name of the animal to "renard" over time.

If Star Fox and Sly Cooper had a baby and let it be raised by Robin Hood and Conker, it would be this movie.

"Renard" is french for "Fox". So this character is called "Fox the Fox"...

I clearly remember watching this as a child. Honestly some of the scenes scarred me.

When I was younger, I remember watching this movie thousands of times (In French 'cause I'm Belgian XD) I actually loved the movie, even now, I am almost 18, but anyway, maybe it's because it was part of my childhood :)

That Moses "no" joke at the beginning got the thumbs up from me lol

That scene when the wolf's trying to steal the eels and the fox teaches him how to fish and tricks him to use his tail is actually a story I heard when I was little, it's a famous story in russia

about wolf fishing with his tail: i think that's an easter egg, bc in russian folklore there is a popular story where fox told wolf that if he put his tail in ice water he will catch fish faster than with his bare hands, he did it, but he was sitting there too long, tail froze and stuck and man saw him and was coming to kill the stuck wolf, so he had to rip his own tail off to be able to run away from men

Your fans have put more effort into parodying Joshua and the Promise Land than the people who made it in the first place.

Funny you mention Disney's Robin Hood, that was originally going to be about Reynard the Fox but changed during development into Robin Hood. The original idea for the movie is the reason why the Robin Hood characters are Anthropomorphic animals. To quote it's trivia section from IMDB: "Initially, Disney considered a movie about the European fable Reynard the Fox. However, due to Walt Disney's concern that Reynard was an unsuitable choice for a hero, Ken Anderson used many elements from it in this movie. Particularly the animal counterparts (Robin Hood, like Reynard, was a fox, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, like Isengrin, was a wolf.) "

This reminds me of Kings Quest, I wish this was a game instead, it would've been an amazingly stylized game.

btw the part where the wolf fishes with his tail and gets it frozen is a classic russian folktale: the fox is fishing and catches a lot of fish, the wolf saw this but couldnt catch any he asks the fox how he did it, and the fox tells him to put bait on his tail the wolf puts his tail in and gets it frozen, the fox laughs and moves on

When I was younger I've seen some promotional material, but not the movie itself. Up until now I was convinced it was a video game.

hey saber can you review "Easterland"? Believe me, it has terrifying animation.

I remember watching this when I was younger. We had the CD and for some reason, I never thought it was weird.

Oh I know what the tail thing in the water was! There's another story about a fox and a wolf, where the wolf is a bully to everyone and the fox has to put up with him. The two end up living together and when wolf eats all the food that fox gathered for winter, Wolf gets hungry in winter and the fox tells him to go fishing, so he has to used his tail to fish. What happens is he falls asleep when waiting for a bite and the hole freezes over, basicaly he ends up losing most of his tail. I think it's a brother's grimm story called Wolf and Fox?

So, French people here. I don't know about the movie, but I do know about the original story. They're multiple stories written by different persons. The character name is Renart, and we call the modern editions where all the stories are put togethers: "Le Roman de Renart". Back in the time, the name we were using for foxes was "Goupil'. But those story got so popular we started using Renart name for them, and now we call them "Renard". (And the part where the wolf was fishing with his tail was in one of the original story. I clearly remember it. But... Well...It WAS many different stories written by different authors. Not one movie which was supposed to go somewhere.)
