In today's video, I talk through exactly what to do if you are ghosted after an interview. The unfortunate reality is that most candidates will experience being ghosted after interviewing for a new role at some point in their careers. And when it happens, it is so unprofessional that it can be really hard to deal with and hard to know what to do next. In this video I talk about the stats of ghosting, I talk about why it happens and I walk you through the steps you should take after a ghosting occurs.

It doesn’t matter how much they praised your answers and questions, if they don’t feel like hiring you then they just won’t. 💯

Also never reach out to them because it will never be your job to remind someone to do theirs. 💯 The fact that they ghosted you just shows you how immature they are and exactly how lackluster their company is. You should never want to work for people like that. 💯

I tend to agree with the sentiment but feel like it’s nuanced.

Move on to the next at ALL times even after you leave the interview. Always assume you didn’t get the job because if you do think that you did then you’ll only set yourself up for major disappointment. 💯

I agree with this, but it’s still good to keep a pulse on where you stand while continuing with other options. My end goal is always to end up with multiple offers to pick from, that way I don’t have to make a decision based on one opportunity

Agreed. Until you are outright told "thanks, but no thanks" assume you are still in the running. Keep tabs on the position post-interview, at least for a few weeks. If you hear absolutely nothing after a few weeks, and after a couple inquiries, best to throw that one on the back burner and invest your time on other opportunities. Like the video says, you MAY eventually hear back after a significant amount of time has passed, just don't count on it. I'd also hesitate to consider joining a group that has poor communication skills, unless it's one of those once in a lifetime opportunities.

I was so close to a job in February. I made it through a fifth round and was scheduled to meet the CEO. Then I was told I need to reschedule because the CEO was on vacation, but the reschedule never came. I waited a week, followed up with my contact. I waited another week, followed up again. Waited a third week, asked if I was still in the running. The point of contact let me know they were super impressed with me and would still like to hire me in the future, but hired and onboarded someone with qualifications they could not pass up. ... Ugh

Okay I have a question- I had a final round of interviews last Wednesday, then 2 days later on Friday I got an email from the recruiter that she was going to be out on maternity leave so she introduced me to a different recruiter who would now be my point of contact. I just don’t know what to think at this point. But I have no idea whether I passed the interview. It’s really stressful 🤷‍♀️

Hi, Ben! Andrew Keener here. That's happened to me. I suspect that had I not emailed to follow up ... they would've not said anything. Frankly it tells me more about that company than it does me and my performance in the interview.

Ben, what would you suggest if on the second interview the hiring manager ghosted the interview! Yes, he didn't show up, no call, no email, crickets. I alerted the recruiter who asked for three new dates to interview with the HM. It's been five days and well beyond my three dates provided. Move forward I think is the answer. This second interview was HIS interview; the first interview scheduled with him resulted in a team member interview in his place, who then endorsed me, etc. You can't make this stuff up...

Ben I actually got a reply back within 4 days of my interview asking if I was ok with the possibility of extending my program if I get it. I replied back same day with my graduation date and my confirmation of interest in the role. The next business day later (3 days later) they replied saying that the matter is urgent and i need to reply back. Ive sent them since then 2 replies and a separate email, but they haven’t gotten back to me (its been more than 24). Am i being ghosted or are my emails just not going through ?
