Ok, I'm a certified card carrying member of the cat club yet, I allow myself at times to like dogs, on rare occasions, I like dogs. Sergeant , is one smart, obedient and loyal creature. You're lucky and bless to have him in your life. Keep up the great work and making excellent videos for all of us.
I just finished going through the small puppy training program for the first time. Princess Leia is 14 weeks old and she is progressing nicely, for a piranha. God bless y'all!!
A massive thank you to GSM , and puppy girl. My little pup is now 18 weeks old. And finally the perseverance is paying off. Im so happy with him and myself and i couldn't have done it without your help. Lots of love and attention is all it takes. Im really starting to enjoy him and cant believe how well I've trained him. Thanks again so much.
Hi German Shepherd Man, oh my word! I WISH I had found your channel and this video prior to February 2018. My male Miniature Australian Shepherd got HORRIBLY attacked, unfortunately by a German Shepherd. I did EXACTLY what you said NOT to do. I went and got in the middle of the attack and tried to separate my dog from our neighbor's German Shepherd. My Dad literally PRIED the German Shepherd's jaws apart in order for it to let go of my dog. My dog came running away from the German Shepherd,, but the German Shepherd came back around and clamped onto my dog's hindquarters. Unfortunately, the German Shepherd bit me and my Dad. I hadvto go to the ER and get a Tetanus shot. My hand and fingers were throbbing terribly. The German Shepherd was literally shaking my dog by the neck like a rag doll. Unfortunately, since that attack, my dog who used to do GREAT with other dogs, now can almost no longer be in the same area with another dog. That attack REALLY shook me. Thankfully, my folks and I have been able to keep a civil relationship with this particular neighbor. On another note, Sergeant was looking at you like "Uh, what's going on, Dad? Why are you pulling my back kegs up like that? Dad, you have NEVER done that before!". I know that neither Sergeant or Big Don would EVER do such a horrible thing as our neighbor's German Shepherd did to my dog. You are a STRONG pack leader.
Thank you so much for that video and that advice! Our dog had his first heavy dog fight with a male doberman today. The doberman attacked our boy, and did not let go of him. Everything went very fast. Luckily, I remembered your advice that one needs to pull the attacking dog‘s legs ti get him off the other dog. It worked and we could separate the two dogs. No one was hurt.
Never have seen this technique before! I think the one think I would advise if ever using the "hock grab" technique is to be mindful that the dog you grab may then focus their attention random attack on the person who grabbed them. One technique to also break up dog fights is using an extra leash to choke off the air supply to the dog who say attacked the other dog. Now I am offering this as a worse case scenario technique, if things look bad. However, if it comes to you needing to save your dog from an off leash dog attacking them, then you got to sometimes do what you have to do. Which may be temporarily causing pain to another animal so the the fight will end. I hope to God I never have to break up a dog fight. However, with so many people letting their dogs off leash I am sure it will happen one day. Love the ultimate advice which is prevention!👍🏼 Great video.
Yes he is an amazing dog! I walk my GS everyday 2 miles in the morning. We live in a rural area where dogs often run free. My biggest fear has been a dog fight. Purchased some pepper spray just in case, not to spray my dog but the free ranger. Hopefully I'll never need to use the spray or your technique. Thanks for sharing!
@@germanshepherdmanofficialc7598 I have used the spray, but you better hope for no breeze at all... it is very likely to blow back into your face and/or your dog's face. I have the same problem... rural area, need to walk, but everybody has pit bulls and not everyone is conscientious about keeping their dogs on their property... We have been attacked 4 times. One idiot even thought it would be funny to let his dog out on purpose to attack my puppy!! I called the cops and he got the message, but I still don't trust the situation around here. Now, I carry a fish bat. Dogs seem to know what it is for, if you just hit the ground with it. Nobody has bothered us since I started carrying it, and especially since the dog is now 13 months old.
I still have the scars from trying to break up a dog fight over 25 yrs ago😣 NEW video idea!! And, yes I know how much u love it every time I suggest one, lol, how about doing a side by side of the different personalities of Seargant and Big Don? Let's see how they each respond to verbal commands btw, have u been telling Big Don every night that Shana loves him??
@@germanshepherdmanofficialc7598 I don't think I could have a different breed. It's 27 years since I got my first and I'm so used with how smart they are, I wouldn't have the patience for a dog that doesn't get it after 3 tries! 😂😂😂
Man you are right on! This technique saved me! I was walking my GSD and let him sniff a chihuahua and wham! The chihuahua’s head was inside my GSDs mouth. I tried getting my hands in there like you said most ppl do and it did not work. A man came by and offered to help and did just what you said to do and it worked like a charm! The chihuahua was ok thank God.
Pepper spray. Dogs hate it, always works. You don’t even have to spray directly onto the dogs, just in their general direction and they’ll run for cover. Been a cop for 20 years, never met a dog who comes back for a second taste of pepper spray.
Most importantly humans must remain calm. I find a very high pitched rape alarm will interrupt a dog fight but owners must be ready to grab their dogs. Be aware that your own dogs will bite you as they are in life saving mode. The problem with rear leg grabbing is skin ripping if the dog doesn't release the other dog. I had one dog with her throat nearly torn out by an untrained dog. A dog will give many indications with body language prior to any fight starts. Learn to understand your dogs body language and be prepared to protect your dog. Great topic here . Thank to all at GSM Land : )
I watched a news story not too long ago about a dog that attacked a child and wouldn't let go, the mother felt helpless with nothing handy for a weapon. A trainer giving advice on that type of situation suggested that very move to make the dog release. I have small grandchildren so I have kept that in mind and it's good to hear it from you that it works between 2 dogs also. I hope I never have to use it.
Wish I had watched this video two months ago. I broke up a fight between my 12 month Shepherd and our old 13 year old Puggle. I got my ring finger bit off. 2 1/2 hours of surgery to repair it. Stupidest move I've ever made. I'll remember this technique you showed. Believe me!
Thank you so much for the information on this subject.had a dog that got attacked by another dog that jumped my fence and charged and attacked my boy.i felt helpless and didn’t know what to do.my boy after this had issues with other dogs,he has fine intill this had happened.
Thank you! Made me laugh too. But I have a 2 yr old black German Shepherd that's no joke!! He's so mean and whips all other dogs and tries to kill our 11 year old White German Shepherd. I don't want to get rid of him! Love him and we are his FOURTH owners. And he's just 2! Help!
Hope it's ok to add this but my experience never grab a dogs hind legs while another is ahold of the dog your pulling s face. My Braveheart had his face and eye ripped half off and he almost died from my friend trying to pull them apart. Wow wish I could show you a pic. That was 2 years ago and he still has to have his eye cleaned every day sometimes twice a day and eye drops. Love your videos I want a sable females girl off you one day?? Im in NC. Western North Carolina
Pit bulls are the exception. I’ve seen owners pulling their APBT’s by the legs and they stay clamped down on whatever It Is they’re attacking. Fights within your OWN pack I feel this Is DEFINITELY the best way, but If a Pit locks onto my girl I’m going to rear naked choke that beast Into LaLa Land then get the hell out. Believe It or not a local BJJ student only 7 years old saved his friend from an attack walking home from school by putting a Pit to sleep with that choke. Might sound harsh to make a dog pass out, but my shepherds are my fur babies. Send the pit to Dreamland for a minute or put your dog down from sustained Injuries. I know which one I’m doing 🤷🏻♂️
I love your channel. I didn't realize your in Tallahassee. I live in Quincy.. I have a 9 month old GSD we are gonna do search and rescue. I have no idea where to start. Can you help me
The type training I do is "Estate Training" where I train the dog to match the real estate for complete functionality and efficiency. I would say to search Jeff Minder, toptierk9.com. He is near Madison, Fl and he will know how to guide you.....GSM
I have been in a few dog fights I was walking my 38 pound male german shepherd mix and my nabors dogs were out and one was in heat. My dog and Tito both got into it but I made my dog stop and as soon as my dog started to turn towards me Tito grabbed my dog and the fight started again
Lale A you can start by showing him that you decide when he hits. Ask him to sit and then place the bowl down. Then pet them while they eat so they get use to being touched while eating. You can also remove the dogs food when he shows aggression, make him sit again and then replace the bowl down. Can do this a couple times to show them that you aren’t there to take there food but you do control when they eat. Sorry this is a lot. There are other techniques as well. But I’ve used this
