This could be a new thing for you Jess, your normal video with a second "mini" educational video.. I would certainly watch every time. Mini video could be once or twice a month to see how things go 🌿

I start my chillies, peppers and aubergine on damp kitchen paper inside plastic zip bags. I put them onto of my boiler on cardboard so don’t cook! Great germination success and are now in little seed trays in propagator.

I germinate my chillies and peppers at around 20-21 degrees. No heating mat, only those small greenhouses and grow lights. They appear around 2 weeks since the sow.

Such a great video for me as a novice, thankyou! Only recently discovered your channel and I'm so looking forward to watching your old vlogs and growing along with the new ones. Just waiting for my chilli seeds to arrive (machu pichu and mirch masala), then hopefully this weekend I'll be sowing chillies, sweet peppers, and obviously an experimental indoor cucumber plant!

Oh I loved this , more pleased, I only have a poly carb greenhouse , like you I don’t have the space , I did toms , green beans , peas , all in my tubs , plus bedding plants , it’s paved area the grass area is never in the sun , except for a short time in the morning , the paved area leads to our garage, but I still am going to watch you , you are fab xx

When you say cold greenhouse ...how cold exactly,ours was -18 this morning hahahaa...however normally by now we would have planted our Aquadulce Broard beans direct into the soil but have been a bit under the weather plus too busy with a loft conversion .Root trainers are a good idea but not if you plant 150-200 seeds as we do ,so they go direct into the soil and in general dont get any problems ....Garlics went into the soil Christmas day about 80 corns ...onion sets will go in usually about 200 when the soil isnt concrete or covered by snow ......here in central France, foot hills of the massive central the saying is dont plant before the 15th of May .....though we dont adhere to that totally but always looking at the weather forecast ...first frost last season 8th of August !!!! love your vlogs Jess always a great Tuesday evening relaxing show

Currently 1843 GMT, local time 1043 PST (Surrey, BC, Canada). Outside -10c. I'll be starting seeds this weekend. I have 2 heat mats and 8 LED grow lights to move things along. With cold frames (I built) things should be going outside in late February. Last frost is around mid-March. Lots of great info on all of your videos, I just have to remember to turn on the translator in my head so I know what courgettes and aubergines are called here (zucchini and eggplant). A Canadian fan.

00:34 Wow, tomatoes in Jan? I've been starting mine mid March on a family birthday for the last few years and I keep thinking even that is probably too early and that I should wait until mid April. But seeing as you start yours mid March I'll stick to that.

Yes Jessie, I used to be impatient with sowing tomatoes in January - just because it is 'something to do', but I hold off until at least late February now, so they are not hanging around and just get leggy even under growlights. I have started a few onions and leeks in an unheated greenhouse at my allotment, but I don't think they will be sprouting for a few weeks yet, because of the very cold weather now.

It is as I type 8:44 am and minus 14c which means it’s warmed up a bit 🥶🥶🥶. My poly tunnel is awash with triple fleeces to protect my savoys that are perfect 🤩. So although I would love to sow something I’m going to have to wait a wee bit longer. Did you get anything else on the trail cam? Hope your all well and warm say hi to mom and Johanna for me, Ali 🥶🥶🇨🇦

Hi Jess , I sowed my cucumber in January following your suggestion last year and they were amazing. I eventually potted mine into a window sill type trough and put them on top of my wire shelving until in front of the window in my spare bedroom, I put grow lights on them until end of March and fed once fruiting. They carried on until October, I couldn’t believe it. They trailed down the shelving into the window sill and up again. I didn’t buy a cucumber for nearly 8 months 🤗🤗🤗. Great video again and loved the one with Tony C Smith, great content 🙏

Hey mate. Im and old time gardener, successional-sowing is something the newer gardeners seem to have trouble with. Me I don’t have the talent like yo to have a RU-vid channel. I think you should keep banging on about growing spring onions and lettuce , and micro greens every few weeks.
@nitelite78
@nitelite78 6 месяцев назад
Hot water tank cupboards are great for germinating chillis is you have one. Easily hot enough. It's important to sow in individual pots so you can remove any germinated seeds (leaving the rest in the warmth) and put them in light so they don't get leggy. Also it's important to check daily for the same reason. Not sure how warm it is in my hot water tank cupboard. Perhaps too warm for some veg seeds but I use it for most of my veg. Chill, pumpkins, courgette, tomato all work really well. Trying shallots for the first time this year but I think it should be ok. My shallots are in modules though so my plan is to just leave them a day or two just to kick start the germination then remove from the cupboard onto a windowsill even if there is no or little germination.

Thanks so much Jessie - super helpful! I am thinking of sowing my peppers and aubergines early as I just didn’t get enough fruit off them before they went over last year. Never used grow lights before - I’m assuming they only need to be on at the beginning and end of the day so as to extend the period they are in light? Or would you have the lights on all day even when it’s light outside? And at what time of year would you turn the lights off? Another video on this would be great!? Thanks again for sharing your extensive growing knowledge! ❤

Hello Jessie, 3 times in one week!! What will happen next week when it goes back to only one time? I suppose there will be withdrawal symptoms! I really did love the episode 1 on 1 with Tony! You did a great job with him and it was so fun to learn more about you as the video progressed. Can you imagine almost 200 episodes of approx 45 minutes each and there are still new things to find out about you! I did like this episode to see where is the plot going this year and what time is the best time to start this or that. The ROOT TRAINERS are the new secret weapon in my garden. I have 5-6 of the original ones made by Haxnicks and through painstaking care they are all still in like new condition. Now this year I found these and I bought 4 of them for myself! The idea being that with the items like tomatoes, aubergines and peppers can be started early indoors and develop deep strong roots before transplanting giving them a great headstart in a very short growing season. The other plant is the Okra and getting between 30-50 plants does provide the amount of okra for the year. Cya next week!!
