Citizens of Madtropolis we picked up some interesting tidbits on lumper fees:
- Shippers often don’t want the liability of injuries from loading/unloading; lumpers resolve that.
- Carriers often don’t have Workers compensation or general comm liability insurance to cover such injuries.
- Brokers aren’t always paying for the fees.
- Brokers say that some carriers create fictitious lumper fees.
- Carriers often have to front hundreds of dollars in cash to pay these fees.
- Carriers are tired and should not be loading/unloading.
