If you are acquiring silver coins for your collection, then uncirculated coins are what you should be looking for , but if you are stacking silver for SHFT-financial crisis/meltdown, then old US silver is the absolute best fractional silver available to EVERYONE - easily identifiable and easy to calculate fair value for G&S... If you're pessimistic, I'd go with circulated and if you're optimistic, I'd go with uncirculated. I'm a pessimistic optimist. 🤣. Great info. 👍

It depends if your a collector or a stacker. If your a stacker then quality does not matter to you as much as price, so a stacker will go for circulated silver. A collector will go for uncirculated silver.

Yes BU here means nothing they still toss it in the junk pile , Paid 13x face for five rolls of quarters at my LCS .

And that’s why I stack weight !

I just collect ounces period and could care less for the collectible or uncirculated. Sure, nice and new is great for Silver Eagles or Maple Leafs but in the end, give me weight. I get straight joy picking up an uncirculated junk at a bargain! :)

For some things (like quarters) just picking ones from the late 50s and 60s can make a big difference. That said I love Mercury dimes so I'll always buy those over the Roosevelt dimes. I'm willing to live with the silver loss there. Am I crazy? Probably 😅. Thanks!

Collector value and the loss thereof needs consideration. Stackers and collectors think differently. I assume the weight difference reflects circulated coins being worn out.

This was a very informative vid., Raven! To be honest, I've never thought of "junk" silver as both circ. or unc. It's always been circulated in my mind's eye. I can see how this works for "Rosies" (because even unc "Rosies" aren't terribly expensive or rare), but doesn't numismatics take over for other types of silver coins when they're unc.? If I have an unc Barber dime (not graded), there is no way I'm selling that to you for junk silver prices, even if it's not slabbed. Maybe I'm missing the point, which is usually the case. You work in this industry, so you have waaay more knowledge on this than I do by a long shot. By the way, don't think of this as me get "mad" or anything like that. I enjoy discourse and learning about this "art"! Hope your lips are healing well from the "Slash" attack! 😃

in a shtf scenario it will all be circulated so no one will care whether the coin has been circulated. everyone will see it as something they just want to recirculate. they won't intent to hold on to it so won't care about such narrow margins, the face value will determine the value.

For common date bu my lcs charges a 1 buck diff.

they sure know it :)
