lol I must be weird then. I only cut down a few natural trees, then the use the saplings to make my own tree farms. I like to spare the villagers and co-exist with them, protecting them from the beasts of the night. I don't strip mine unless I really have to make room for a large structure, and usually I mine everything underground in branch mines. And I also only build a small house for myself, and build a village around it.

I landed on an extremely hilly and densely forested biome then proceeded to mow down all of the trees, mushrooms and hills to turn it into flat terrain. Expanded a nearby village, made a farm and replanted the forest (just less densely) before I dug out massive 8 block tall caverns til I hit bedrock and used the cobblestone to build a castle around my city! I'm currently working on tower 6 of 8.

I'm pretty glad they're pacing it.. for a little while there was a huge risk of burn out and cancellation. Then they switched the timing and the length around a bit. Its a great show. I'm hoping they never stop.. Just 30 years from now, Older versions of them all playing themselves complaining about current kids and their weird media.

you don't need to watch any video to realize it's an MMORPG.

Why can't a Multiplayer RPG be a sandbox but Singleplayer RPG can be? Also, a themepark in this definition just means that there are clusters of mass activity, but that doesn't mean you can't spend your time in the emptier spots if you wish, especially for profession leveling, archaeology, fishing, exploration, and achievement hunting. Anyhow, sandbox is in itself a range of ideas, the ability to tear down and build anything in Minecraft is faaaar more sandboxy than what you can do in GTA, a themepark MMORPG would just be on the more structured end of sandbox while still remaining within that range.

It Can be... but WoW isn't. Something like EVE is. WoW is very on rails, almost by definition if there's an achievement or level for something, it's not a sandbox.

Star Wars Galaxies was a Sandbox game. EVE online is sort of a sandbox game.

Yeah basically anything the after hours crew works on. I used to like the list guy, but he basically said that anybody who believed in aliens or ghosts was stupid or crazy and he ruined it for me. @@eddardstark5034 Skyrim doesn't have an ending either. Sure, you can win the civil war, you can destroy the bad dragon, but then the game just continues. There are countless smaller tasks and assignments you can spend your time doing before, during, after, or instead of the main mission. The dragons don't stop coming, insurrectionists like the Foresworn never die out no matter how many of them you kill singlehandedly, it's just a world of continuous violence and survival of the fittest. So in a way, Skyrim is a halfway point between Fallout and GTA. You're the hero of your world, the Dragonborn, favoured by the literal gods of that world to save it, but even then, your impact on your world is limited to individuals' lives, and you're just one of who knows how many Dragonborn in that world's history.

Ray Chadwick Good point. Fair enough. I just googled the definitions of both words and advantage works better for my scenario. The key difference seems to be whether society gives you special "privileges" or if you are in a better position to do something by having an 'advantage'. I think the two are often in conjunction with each other. Especially if there is a perceived "advantage" with a type of person. I actually suck at sports. Most really tall people have underdeveloped hand eye coordination when they are young. But people who didnt know me believed (stereotyping) Height=talent. Thus they chose me first. Advantage and privilege at work. The short person (who had talent) had to start at the bottom and work his way up to something that was just given to me. Even if I sucked the first time. They assumed I was having a off day. The short guy would be picked sooner but usually still behind me. At least until everyone "illusion" wore off and things became fair based on skill. The actual consequences are astronomically much lower than in real life. The amount of just outright crazy shit you can do in GTAV isn't anywhere near the actual punishment you get for being "caught". That's the point. In GTAV, you can 'accidently' run over a handful of bystanders to do point of making sure they're dead and either very easily evade the cops, or pay a few thousand dollars almost instantly. And the do it again the moment you live the station.

They were talking about the outcome of your actions having an effect on the WORLD of the game, not consequences to the player. The comparison was: In Fallout, the things you do change the world persistently, If you kill a guy he stays dead, If you steal from someone they'll stay mad until you pay off your debt or kill them. In GTA the WORLD isn't effected by you at all in a PERSISTENT way, you steal something, drive until the victim de-spawns and the game forgets about it. No ones saying one game is worse or better than the other, it's just a comparison in the execution of games in the sand box genre. See, they discuss a singular topic on this show with multiple subjects, not a series of unrelated things that exist separate from each other in a vacuum.... Very similar to lego in a way, but gravity only affects a tiny few objects. I think it's similar to WOW. You start off dying A LOT, but once you grow and you slaughter the things the USED to kill you instantly, begins it feel like you're accomplished something.

eh, not really something to be hated for, don't worry about it. hell, sometimes structure is good - i game a lot, and i don't tend to get 'far' in minecraft because a) i'm not that creative, and b) outside of some stuff, there's no overarching goal, so i just kinda dick around for a few hours, rinse repeat on new maps. i mean, i dunno how many sandbar island bases i've made that fell apart after i got enough iron for some iron tools and an iron armor set, just because i was like 'welp, what the fuck now' and sort of gave up and restarted a new map later. on the flipside, as an example of a game with a little more structure being good, i present the dragon quest builders titles - essentially minecraft concept with a DQ skin and some story and missions outlining what the fuck you're supposed to be doing. put hundreds of hours into these games, built various village styles and done a ton of work, just because it has a stronger base of what you're supposed to b doing than minecraft's 'here's a bunch of randomly generated shit, make your own fun'

It's not dialogue, just romance a companion, have them nearby, and then sleep in a bed. They'll wake up next to you and you get a buff called (if I remember correctly) Lover's Embrace. I don't know about you but "Lover" is a pretty clear indicator of their intentions to me.

This is common in people that are taught to seek the end goal- a finished game. It's the same reason why games have extra achievements and 'true endings'. They make people like your friend unable to walk away from a game until they have 100 percent completed that game and broken the disc into a thousand pieces. It's a little like a skinner box model but with one MASSIVE payoff instead of lots of tiny ones.

He means 'job' in the sense of an obligation. Lots of players get hooked and put regular hours, completing daily quests etc. in a completely joyless way. Eventually most of them realize they're not enjoying it anymore - but even those people usually just find another game with a similar model to transfer their addiction to. Eventually they're confronted with the fact that although there are lots of simulated rewards in games that make us feel like we're accomplishing things, none of it translates to the 'real world', and no matter how much they work at it, there will never be a final payoff.

But it's interesting to think "what if it was true?". Probably the most "sane/normal" people would be the ones who claim Tetris is their favourite game. "So we have challenges in life that come in random shapes, but we try to make them fit in our current position and by fitting them we alleviate the stress they present, hence lines that disappear. But with age we get more responsibility so the bricks fall faster and we have to be quicker in eliminating them." Now that I think about it Tetris makes a damn good analogy for what life is.

It's one of the ONLY games like it of it's caliber. If somebody says "Wanna play a fps?" Then people will respond "Which one?" Minecraft, however, has a special status. If somebody wants to play "a game where you build stuff", there's only one game people will think to play. So in a sense, it has a monopoly on its own kind of gameplay.

Roblox didn't have the level of customisation that Minecraft did/does, and a quality that many people seem to be ignoring is that Minecraft was popularised almost entirely by RU-vidrs.
