The original bass player and one of the singers was from my home town of Greenville , Ms. and I played in a band with him when we were kids. I was his drummer. He wrote and Produced A Place in The Sun. Sang Atlanta June. He was a great musician. He Passed away with Kidney failure. The one and Only Bud Cockrell. He left this band to play with his wife Cockrell and Santos. I always thought it was a big Mistake, but I am sure Pablo Cruise knew how Bud was. It was always that way or the Hiway. When we were kids he slipped and fell off the diving board at the city pool and broke his front teeth out. he always said to us ,when I get big and famous I am going to get me some new teeth. On Pablos first album he had a big Smile with new teeth. I will always love and Miss you bud!
The observation about these guys being good, well practiced/rehearsed and excellent on their instruments is all true. You can add this band to the names of similar quality groups from back then.....Hall/Oates, Ambrosia, Little River Band, etc. These dudes were as good as anyone of that era.....just a real tight groove, and they played their songs just like the original recording.....not a note or beat missing.....kudos.
Such an underrated band....these guys created such beautiful music back in the day, soulful, resonating harmonies, and sweet guitar riffs humming off that strat, man these guys can rock. I'm so grateful for having grown up in that era.
Even as a kid, when I heard that song on the radio, I thought the end begged for a jam session... This is why you go to a concert. That jam was fantastic. That drum solo was sizzling. I would like to have heard more guitar but Mr. Jenkins thought everyone else deserved a chance to shine, even the audience. FIRST RATE!
first saw and heard Pablo Cruise in Hawaii at the Blaisdell Arena Aug. 25th 1978. Unforgettable concert.....always a positive message with uplifting spirit. The vocals always clear , easy on the ears..Love and listen to frequently....EL Verano one of my all time instrumental favorites!! The piano playing outstanding. Hope to see u again , but now here in Florida.
