chris o o now right? It's that 60s kind for cute tune and the way she emphasise it - Bette can't really sing but that's what I love about it. Also the way she's swinging her skirt so sweetly just having fun at the end! So good! She cracks me up!

Denise Spurlock She was the one who was the breakthrough with the age barrier actress and proved that an actress only gets better with age. She was tough and hard as nails and had a sense of humor and a bigger heart than people have given her credit for. Hell, you had to be very strong and tough in those days in Hollywood if you were to survive. She may have had her quirks about her but it isn't like she didn't have a reason to have them. It's such a shame about B.D. and her. Regardless of what B.D. has said, she did love her mother but B.D. never had to raise a child alone and go up against the Big Boys of Hollywood and I doubt she really ever had to fight for very much. Her and Joan Crawford could have had a great friendship, I think, if the studios had not turned them against each other. They seemed to do that with the women more than the men, I guess they got a kick out of it or something.
@ScottLoyed
@ScottLoyed 7 лет назад
Absolutely correct. When other actresses of her generation ages they fought it tooth and nail and more or less became actual "Baby Janes." She moved on to roles that fit her age and worked almost until the day she died
@lisamurphy5770

I agree with Shannon R. Both of these women were born Aries. That’s about 1 of the toughest signs out there. Ask ANYONE who deals with an Aries. Plus, they may not have been the most beautiful women of their day but in their younger years, believe me, they had their suitors! Being Soo Famous and good looking in your youth makes it triple hard to come down to earth and realize it’s all gone...the attention, the admiration of both men and women and what was so important in life has left you. Think what an impact that has on a psyche. How far that is to fall and do it in the public eye. I personally LOVED watching these women! Through the books, the tv smears, all of it. They were honestly trying to do their best. Because we can scorn Hollywood but look who rules the wave! If it wasn’t for the “Hollywood Hype” and the Hetta Hoppers of the world, oh and let’s NOT forget the money machines: Goldwyn, Meyer, and his Pals, they might have died happy. Or maybe felt some dignity to age.

Lisa Murphy being born in a certain month has absolutely ZERO to do with your personality. It has to do with childhood, how you are brought up, the difficulties that happen in your formative phases, and what you learn as an adolescent. The fact that in 2018 some people still think the superstitious nonsense is ridiculous.

This is an absolute pisser! Clearly Bette's not a singer, but you can tell she knows it, and her attitude is "Who cares? Let's have some fun!" She's not of the rock and roll generation but in a tongue-in-cheek way, she's doing a song that appeals to them. I've always admired her fearlessness and her ability to put it all right out there! Way to go, Bette!

I like her voice. I think she has a "teacher's" voice so to speak. You know when your elementary teacher would sing songs with the class and it was fun, and they were never bad, but you knew they weren't singers in the strictest sense?

I love Betty Davis, but I don't think Joan Crawford had that kind of influence to sway an Oscar judge. Betty was competing against Anne Bancroft that year who won the Oscar for her role in The Miracle Worker. I seen both movies, and Anne really did a wonder job playing that part.

@slh950
@slh950 5 лет назад
@@emilyschornstein2398 Feud was largely fictional. It was a love letter to Davis. All Joan did was offer to accept the award for women who wouldn't be there - in no possible way could she manipulate the outcome of the award. Its so rude to Anne Bancroft to say she only won because Bette Davis spun stories later in life!

Bette Davis uma das grandes atrizes do cinema de ouro mundial, bela canção.

THIS IS GREAT! Why the hell didn't they use this in the movie? They only used the instrumental tracks. Composer Frank DeVol concocts a memorably cheesy pastiche of nearly every Top 40 rock song circa 1961. Every time I hear it I grow extremely nostalgic for my early childhood when all of the songs coming out of my mom's radio sounded just like this. And to have Bette Davis herself singing the vocals is sheer genius. This should have been a hit.

If I’m not mistaken, the teenager whose lives next door is listening to an instrumental of the song on the radio in one scene. Or am I crazy.

1962,"long before color, right"? God, some people are so ignorant! Color programming came into the mainstream in the 50's though it would be another 10 years before it was prominent over B & W. Still some notable mainstays in vibrant color were Disney, Bonanza, Lucy. This video is a testament to Davis' ability to not take herself so seriously like Crawford. Even when Bette weighed 90 pounds and near death, she kept on going with sheer determination, she was a force of nature with unending energy. The comments make me lol. Bette would crack up.

@@stmichl9433 I'd tone down the bloviation, too! Clearly you believe that anything a woman can do, a man can do better. Even the best of the drag queens, Charles Pierce, was not looked upon fondly by Bette. Why? He couldn't empathise with her as Sarandon (or any woman in the business) could, and resulted to portrating a hollow caricature of the woman. But hey, that's drag.
@alexgreen1559
@alexgreen1559 4 года назад
@@stmichl9433 goodness, talk about projection. You seem to have tied yourself into a fallacious knot. If drag in its entirety is about parodying and satirising female performers, why would a drag performer have been better suited for the role than Sarandon? And as for transphobia; I don't think the trans community would be particularly thrilled with your conflating them as whole with drag.

Bette Davis made a record in 1976, including the song "I've Written a Letter to Daddy' (sung both as 'Baby Jane' and then continuing as Miss Davis). It was put out on CD (I bought it for the sheer 'camp' value of it). When the album was released, Miss Davis signed copies for hundreds of people lined up around the block.

She's just GREAT here! Love her sense of humor. Bette just had a blast singing. The best is that didn't take herself so seriously (here.) How many stars of that caliber or with her credits & acclaim would dare to have this much fun - on live TV. Hollywood royalty with a twist.

I encourage Betty Davis to sing this song, we were very good friends as I did so encourage her to take parts that were not always beautiful. How I wish her real spirit was still in that body. A giant she was as to always be as wherever you are lady I will always love thee. How I wish this world really knew what the old world used to be like. This character Betty Davis was remarkable!
