I actually thought both "fake Gingers" did well; Judith and Constance captured the essence of the character well. Pity that Tina didn't return but it was her choice and the show did continue to do well without her. So really a win-win all around. Great video, Dave; nice to see these REALLY obscure bits of TV trivia explored!
@@jdsundstrom I heared about the TV cover bottom line is the people in charge of TV Guide only wanted Tina and Bob on the cover but he fought to get Dawn on it as well... Dawn herself said at time she was happy and Excited to be on the cover of TV Guide.........the picture was taken but she got the shock of her life when she was cut out of the picture and only Tina and Bob were on the Cover..........Dawn was so disappointed and Bob himself was angry at the Snub she got he really let both Sherwood Schwartz and the people in charge of TV Guide how he felt with the situation.. they only agreed to have both women on the cover with Bob...so he would do the picture.....he had refused to do it unless Dawn was in the picture. dispite the outcome it proved the type of person Bob Denver was...he cared about the Cast he thought all the cast was important....which is why he fought to get Dawn Wells and Russll Johnson's name on the intro song.
As always, Dave, your production was heartwarming and relatable (and I mean that!); The "Fake Ginger," Judith Baldwin, was an outstanding actress, and it was relatable because those were great days to be a kid (1960s)! The more I see your creations, the more I realize how important your "hobby" is. These TV shows, that era's music, those great stars, those 'Foxxy ladies,' and other artists have been decades and will forever remain a big part of our lives/memories; you help return us to that younger sweeter time. (Edit: I almost forgot to mention how much *I LOVE THE oldish COMMERCIALS!* talk about a memory jogger!! 😊 )
Thanks for the "bonus", classic commercials, Dave. I always love seeing old commercials. I wouldn't doubt that I have seem most or all of these, but the only one that I specifically remember is the Bubalicious commercial.
I'll take Dawn Wells for the Win. ;) Actually my Hollywood Squares, tic tac toe, is Dawn, Dianna Rigg and Yvonne Craig, Bat Girl! Cheers from Montreal Quebec Canada
📺Great video Dave and actually there were two fake Gingers in The Gilligans Island tv movies not just one! Judith Baldwin in Rescue From Gilligans Island and The Castaways Of Gilligans Island. Constance Forslund portrayed Ginger in The Harlem Globetrotters On Gilligans Island. 🏝🥥🛥🏀
Thanks for the video Dave. I liked Baldwin's portrayal of Ginger Grant. And I was one if those kids who raced home to see Gilligan's Island. Thanks again!
Dave, I know that you'll be tempted to shorten this presentation; however, my suggestion would be not to shorten this presentation when it goes out to The general public.... You have done a wonderful job using the time within this presentation to allow both women to have equal time. - they both deserve it! Strong presentation;
To this day, (and for the last 60 years), when we go on a long drive for shopping, visiting, or whatever, we say we are going on a three hour tour. I guess the show made an impression on us!
I wish I could find on RU-vid the funny commercial Tina Louise did in the late 70s for a brand of frozen pies! She did a similar "take it from Tina" line and praised it for being something for "girls with no time to cook!" Haha!
She had a very good play Ginger I didn't mind at all the original but she made those movie special and also thank you for showing those commercials bring back good memories❤🤗👏👍🙏♥️
While it was a shame that Tina chose not to return for the reunion movies, I thought Judith did a wonderful job. Constance was fine in the last movie, but I think Judith captured the essence of the character a bit better. As always, Dave, your channel is terrific; thanks for bringing the nostalgia!
cool! I remember her in the Escape to Gillgans Island. She played a good Ginger. I didn't realize she was in other tv shows/movies. always fun to watch
🚣♂Dawn Wells would however take on the role of Ginger Grant in the animated incarnation Gilligans Planet (1982-1983) with a blonde👱♀Ginger LOL! And Jayne Webb would provide the voices of both Ginger and Mary Ann for The New Adventures Of Gilligan cartoon (1974-1975).🏝🛥🥥⛵
Tina Louise had a recurring role on “Dallas” as J.R.’s secretary, Julie Grey, that was around the time both Gilligan’s Island reunion movies were filmed.
The guy in the Certs commercial was David Garrison, who would go on to some acting fame as Steve Rhoades, Marcy's first husband and next door neighbor to Al Bundy on Married... with Children.
@jc9716 When was Marcia replaced?? I knew that Eve Plum didn't reprise the role in a lot of the "The Brady Bunch" TV movies, but when did they do the same with Maureen Mccormick as Marcia??
All three Brady girls were replaced at one time or another. Susan Olsen did not appear in A Very Brady Christmas (1988) because she had already planned a Jamaican trip for her honeymoon so she was replaced by "Fake Cindy" Jennifer Runyon. Leah Ayers became "Fake Marcia" in The Bradys 1990 TV series because Maureen McCormick had just become a new mother and wanted to stay home with her infant daughter. And of course there was the infamous"Fake Jan" Geri Reischl who at this point is almost better known than Eve Plumb!
I had no idea that Judith was such a prolific actress. Kudos to her for taking on the "Ginger" role. No doubt, she took a lot of criticism by way of comparison. Who would want that?
Taking over an iconic role that's closely associated with another actor not something I'd want to do, at least not without that actors public endorsement. .
Judith is a very beautiful woman who had a fabulous career ( thanks Tina Louise) by the way the cartoon Bob's Burgers two children have the names Tina and Louise in homage to Gilligan's island Dave!😂💕
Since I've Always been team Maryanne, I didn't miss Tina Louise (Ginger) at all! That said I think Judith did great as Ginger and actually gave the character warmth ,depth and relatability Tina'a lacked 🤘 MARYANNE 4 LIFE🤘
Sorry, but her portrayal of Ginger was NOT Ginger Grant from the show. Ginger on the show PLAYED dumb, but it was only an act. She was actually pretty savvy, and only PLAYING dumb to catch people (mostly men) off guard. Fake Ginger was portrayed as just plain naive and airheaded. There was no depth to her character at ALL, she was just a cliche dumb blond with a henna rinse.
In 1978 Tina was initially a series regular on the first season of Dallas. Her character never caught on and she disappeared soon enough, but at the time she may have been committed to filming the show and simply didn't have time to appear in the movie too.
@@cedarledgepublishing ... Well, recurring role at least. She was more than just a one and done guest star. I don't know. I haven't seen it in 40 years!
I don’t know 🤷♂️ if fake Ginger is rather cold 🥶 blooded but it would’ve been appropriate to call her replacement Ginger. Judith Baldwin did what she had to do as an actress. They weren’t just going to pick anyone for the part of Ginger because Judith was a very talented actress. I’m sure the fans loved 🥰 her as well. What counts was that the movie 🎥 of the Castaways was made. Instead of calling her Fake Ginger it’s what it is because they selected a beautiful woman 👩 to be the replacement Ginger, which happened to Judith Baldwin.
When I say "Fake Ginger", I mean it in only the kindest way. The same way that I do with "Fake Jan", Geri Reischl. They are both awesome...but, as you more diplomatically stated, they were replacements. Since you watched the video, you know that I am a huge fan of Judith's and in no way was trying to be "cold-blooded". 🙂
Who do people argue about more?? Ginger Vs. Marie Anne Kirk Vs. Picard Agent 99 Vs Emma Peel Joel Robinson Vs Mike Dawson Vs. Combs Wilma Vs. Betty (Just to end with a Curve) This is fun! I Like this Channel :) Bonsoir de Montreal Mes Amis
@@jdsundstrom If it's not David Garrison, it's really good impression. Garrison was born in 1952. He's done a lot more work on stage than on television. He left the show because he missed the theater.
Thanks for posting this. I was such a naive kid when this came out. I was puzzled by this “different ginger “ and the FAKE Jan from the Brady Bunch variety show. I felt like they were real people, not the intellectual property of faceless corporations….
Some people think having a FINAL episode hurts a show in syndication anyway. Apparently, it was that way with _The Fugitive_. Because "the running stopped" in the final episode, it killed the suspense of the show afterward. If _Gilligan's Island_ had been given a real series finale, would it have been as successful in syndication?
Can you do a video on what happened to Monica and Raul/Little Chico from the final season of Chico And The Man? I think Gabriel Melgar, who played Raul/Little Chico, appeared in the 1985 Miami Vice ep The Maze (season 1) as one of the Colombian teen trio of cop-killing brothers that Crockett, Tubbs, Castillo and the rest of the Vice force was taking down. I think the actress who played Ed's beautiful teen niece Monica (Julie Hill) also played a prostitute and another small part on Miami Vice in an uncredited role in a couple different episodes. Not a bad show to attempt a comeback for either actor.
I was seven years old when they made the _Rescue_ movie, so I didn't notice any difference. I wonder why they had the movie on NBC. _Gilligan's Island_ was on CBS. Maybe it was because NBC was in the ratings basement? Maybe it was Sherwood Schwartz was mad at CBS for how they cancelled the show?
I am still mad at Tina Louise because her lawsuit said the Return Movies and the Cartoons couldn't be mistaken for her likeness, so it just ruined these projects. I do however think Return to Gillian Island is the best reunion movie.... Of all TV shows...
@@jdsundstrom "In Universe" I guess that would make Ginger Grant now the sole owner of the resort they turned the island into in the second reunion movie LOL
Besides fake Jan, Marcia, and Ginger, there was another Becky on Roseanne Sarah Chalke who took over the role Lacy Gorensen started. In the 8th season, she came back for a while and at the end of the first season 8 show they did a takeoff on the Patty Duke Show with both Sarah and Lacy. In the Roseanne reboot Sarah appeared in a different role. Lacy reprised her role of Becky in the reboot and spinoff The Connors
I actually didn't watch the rebooted "Rosanne", therefore, I didn't realize that the actress that originated the role of Sarah in the original series returned to the role in the reboot
@jdsundstrom I don't remember that Dave, but I do know something else about Roseanne. There was another DJ in the very first episode. Actor Sal Barrone was originally DJ. What happened was a combination of things. There was a writers strike and that delayed Roseanne s premiere, and she thought Sal aged too much. He also was not getting along with Sara Gilbert, so he was replaced with Michael Fishman. So it turns out Fishman was not the original DJ even though it seems he was
spray some arrid extra dry on those specks on the certz mints, then you can save the ozone layer while fixing your breath at the same time. that way those bublicious animated kids won’t drift past the broken ozone layer into outer space and die from the cosmic rays, lack of oxygen and unfiltered radiation. if only those kids picked bubble yum instead.
It would be impossible to replace Tina in a proprer manner, but she tried. (BTW,Am I the ONLY one out here that DID NOT believe it would really happen when they first advertised "Rescue From Gilligan's Island"??? I though it was 1970's "click bait /fake TV" myself... lol :) )
Why do people tend to blame the "fill in" or "replacement" actors and actresses? Tina Louise unfortunately imagined she was a bigger star and more gifted actress than in reality, and refused to take part in nearly all the reunion movies on the basis that such typecasting would hinder her career. (As it turned out, that was not especially much). The "fill in" actors and actresses are doing a job that has been assigned to them, and it is not a particularly easy one.
I forgot there was a fake Ginger lol She did a good job. I’m sure I noticed the 1st time then let it go. She was now Ginger. I can’t say the same for Other Darren on Bewitched 😂 He was/is like an optical illusion. I cannot remember what Prime Darren looks like when watching episodes that Other Darren appears.
I thought it was smart to not have them rescued at the end..it was one show that didn't need closure as their adventures happened on the island.. Even in the reunion movie when they were rescued, It didn't work for me.. And as ridiculous as how they returned to the island, it was the best part of the movie..
Nobody understood it, but somehow, I think it was Tina's agent who conned her into it. I had bought Sherwood Schwartz's book on "Gilligan's Island" and he related the story in detail. I don't have a hard time believing such a thing. An agent who stands to make a hefty commission on getting his client to accept a TV role could twist a story any which way to make it sound plausible.
@@williamkidney6031Tina Louise and her Gilligan's Island co-stars, Bob Denver, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells, appeared in a cameo on the sitcom, Roseanne.
The person who took over the role of ginger and Gilligan island was no good. She was no ginger. You could tell she was fake sorry but she was no good. I guess Tina Louise is the only one who could be ginger on Gilligan’s Island. By the way, where have you been you used to do about TV shows all the time and I haven’t seen any one of them lately.”
I really do. I think her manager told her whatever was necessary to get her to agree to do "Gilligan's Island". In this case, I believe he misled her into thinking that her role was more important than it truly was.
@@jdsundstrom that’s cool. I just find it hard to believe that she never read the script because it’s right there in the tittle. You are correct in that she wouldn’t be the first actress to conned into a role.
Tina louise actually was a movie star in real life before gilligan's island.😮 Her resume is a bunch of dramatic, serious roles. Comedy was not something that she ever did really..(And for good reason, she wasn't funny.) I put money on Mary Ann to win "best celebrity " contest 😊 She spent the rest of her life pretending to be Mary Ann,( Even when Dawn wasn't working,) she was Volunteering for a Charity group in a village With no Connection to the modern world. They didn't have electricity or clean water, but upon seeing the group a native woman started pointing excitedly at Dawn and then she grabbed her in a bear hug with tears streaming down her face, She just kept repeating "You are Mary Ann" The girl had worked as a maid at a hotel on a different part of the island chain, and had seen dozens of reruns of Gilligan's island while she worked there. So a year later these volunteers walk into their village, And one of them just happens to be Mary Ann.. Dawn Wells was very gracious and understanding Of this new fan, talking with her, Giving her a hug and an autograph. Dawn was stunned that she was recognized at a primitive Village in the middle of nowhere. 😊
She was a fake ginger she night might be fake on anything else she did but she definitely was a fake ginger. I’m sure she’s a good person, but not as ginger. She was just fake.
