Narcissists usually have a good sense of self-worth, but when something goes wrong, they feel like they need to apologise to the world. This is called a "guilty conscience", and it can make the narcissist behave really weird and apologetic. If you're dating or interacting with a narcissist, be prepared for this! Here are some tips on how to deal with a narcissist's guilty conscience, so you can keep your relationship healthy!

Welcome my channel! If this is your first time seeing my face or hearing my voice, my name is Lee and I am a self aware narcissist. I have narcissistic personality disorder ( NPD ) and I've been in therapy for my personality disorder since 2017 and it has definitely changed my life because without it, I would have lost everything.
The point of these videos is to help bring awareness from the other side of the narcissistic *buse spectrum. I suspect my boyfriend was a covert narcissist and he would say little things like when I bought him a bunch of gifts I put a lot of thought into for his birthday and he said, “I don’t deserve these.” The way he said it was kind of weird and he had a guilty look on his face so I asked him what he meant and he said it was a cultural saying. But I think he meant it because of the cheating. He was right, he didn’t deserve it, or me.

Same pattern. He said the same thing when I gifted him on his birthday. Few days later, I caught him cheating with 11 different women! Discarded and Thrashed him!!!!

Mine was too. He hadn't paid me child support in 12 yrs because he was furious about the divorce, but I gave him $600 out of my stimulus money to replace his stimulus check when I dropped back in on him briefly during COVID to talk about maybe getting back together. Unbeknownst to him, I wanted to see if he would give me my child support out of it, or if he'd (as I KNEW in my heart he would) give in to his selfishness and spend it all on himself, and lie to me about how he was really job searching. His look when I dropped the money on the table was EXTREMELY weird. Turns out he knew all along exactly why he didn't deserve it, and I found out why from my daughter a month after he committed suicide last year. He truly was a miserable person.

Yup! Very true. My wife cheated after about ten years of acting like a robot in our marriage. Yeah, her new cocky, arrogant Alpha Male dumped her after a week. She cultivated that hook up for 3 months then got it and got dumped.

@LRS11B Wow. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Yea karma always gets em. The best thing is to move on as well as you can, don't hold out for an apology you might never receive, and just manifest a person that would never do that to you, who possesses real empathy for others. Not all that glitters is gold. These narcissists are finding out the hard way. They lack moral compass of their own so they have no way of knowing decent people from indecent people. They just gotta find out the hard way by attracting people more like them. Taste of their own medicine.

He acted weird whenever he met new supplies. It's like deep down h3 knew he was lying to me, and he was extremely wrong. But instead of not continuing the sneaky behavior he would pick random fights with me that had me super confused.

@@Luke747gal if you suspect they're a narcissist, they will revert. They may try to hold it down for awhile, but if an opportunity comes knocking or they get mad at you for any reason, then they'll most likely revert... Unless they are getting psychological help and are being open and honest, don't take them back. Or take them back and observe. It's hard to break away, but if you go back do not put blinders on. If you start noticing within yourself that you're walking on eggshells in fear they might do something, it's already a toxic relationship. Whether they are narcissistic or just toxic AF. Move accordingly.

@@Luke747galit never lasts long or even close to forever, as much as you hope they can change. They just don’t or it’s very rare. Watch actions, listen less to words. I advise you to get out sooner rather than later, it adds to the pain to hold on. When you can claim your own power and walk away now with less scars, just some battle wounds. Think of your own emotional well-being, something they wouldn’t consider. It sucks when someone means everything to you, but you mean less than nothing to them.

Yes the narc I was around was always gaslightining me,deflecting his wrongdoing onto me because he was sneaky and dramatic on a daily basis he knew he was always up to no good. So he blamed me for his actions when I shouldve been the one angry,frustrated and upset. I still can't believe to this day I messed with such a shitty,sorry,pathetic low life.I knew damn well I deserved better and definitely could do better than the likes of him and I've definitely definitely have. Thank you God for showing me the way,the light and the truth. My intuition was always right from the very getgo of meeting him. So glad I left him before another year passed me by.😊🎉💯🙏🏼

My ex would do BOTH. In the beginning when he would get caught emotionally cheating on me online he would take me out and treat me like he did in the beginning, but towards the end of our relationship… little things I did would set him off. He would yell at me, cuss at me, and also make me feel like I was the problem. Basically he messed with my head and heart 24/7

I am glad someone spoke of the getting cussed out to the MAX. I never heard nor had anything like it. Unleashed hell. Every name in the book plus horrible psychological labels. Like you are a liar, a bitch, psychotic -- you need a psychiatrist you brainless stupid😮 loser.... Generally you are being punished for something but you don't know what. I am a decent, honest, compassionate, caring person. An angry tirade of hatefulness spewed at me, texted and yelled at me.... less than a year hanging out with him as a friend. I pray for him only because I am gone. At first on separations I hurt so gut wrenching bad. I would not have survived without God/Jesus/Holy Spirit and what I know of them. Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you. Just keep crying out to Jesus the Christ to help you, & Holy Spirit of the Living God to come to me and deliver and heal me. Say I do NOT receive any words of abuse he hurls at me in Jesus name. You are the God who delivers me, deliver me Lord from bondage to this -- him completely.

And the thing is, they might be nicer to you when they feel guilty and it's still just to make themselves feel better and convince themselves that they made amends. They will also bring up how they are good to you and try to shame you instead of taking responsibility if you find out about the bad thing they did.

My narc would buy me a new car every year whenever he would cheat. One year I got a 5 carat diamond ring!! Another year I got a house. He wouldve came out much cheaper just apologizing to me. The material possessions were a manipulation tactic. He discarded me last year but told my lawyer I could keep the house as long and asked me to not summon his girlfriends to court to testify about their relationships with him.

My bf will profusely apologize for very small things. Like, actions that do not require an apology. For example, if he sneezes loud, he’ll say “omg I’m so sorry”. But heaven forbid I ask him a question about what he’s doing, ask him if he’s upset, hold him accountable, ALL HELL breaks loose. All of a sudden I’m his mortal enemy over literally something so minute. I don’t really know how to handle it- the whip lash really gets me.

I have BPD, and we share this with narcissists I think, when we feel guilt and we KNOW we’re wrong, we will continue to try to manipulate and deflect in order to not be humiliated because our sense of self is so fragile. I’d imagine narcissists are the same in this.

What I think they mean by “fragile sense of self” - is that you identify yourself with how others perceive you. If others see you as a horrible person, you ARE just a horrible person. You don’t have the self-awareness or self-assuredness to know that you still have inherent value, even though you make mistakes.

I believe that ALL HUMAN BEINGS who do horrible things to people, feel guilty and ulgy and nasty inside! The problem is that some people are so evil spirited and so selfish and so prideful and so egotistical and SO DETERMINED to have their own way that the guilt and shame inside of them does not MOVE THEM to make a change! I will NEVER FORGET watching an interview and a serial killer was asked did he ever feel guilty about the crimes he committed and he said YES HE DID........BUT he said that he felt overpowered by some force within him that was stronger than he was and THE DESIRE he had within him to do the sick and horrible things that he did to people wouldn't let up! He even admitted that it made him feel like a freak and he felt like he had to try really hard everyday to be normal around people! I am a Christian and I believe in Gods teachings in the Bible! Demonic spirits are real and when someone is being controlled by demonic spirits they are not fully in control of themselves! But there is hope for them IN JESUS! If anyone, no matter what the situation, confesses their sins to Jesus and crys out to Him IN FAITH to be delivered, Jesus can deliver them! Unless a narcissist is delivered BY JESUS and has a change of heart they will continue to live with their shame and guilt and they will continue to do the evil things that they do!

I just started watching the video, but I just want to ask: can't a narc confuse guilt with shame? If I feel bad about what I've done to someone else and how it made that person feel - that's guilt. If I do something to someone else and all I care about is how it makes ME feel and look to other people - that's shame. Narcs only care about themselves. They don't care about what they do to people. Prisons are full of narcs that are ashamed of being in prison, but don't CARE about what they've done to get them sent there. I think they (narcs) get shame confused with having a guilty conscience. Shame and guilt are not the same thing.

My ex told me in the beginning that ppl told him he was a narcissist/sociopath. I didn’t know anything about it so I said nah I don’t think you are. He was literally telling me what to expect. Mighty God, I'm sick of it. I'm so relieved and grateful to God, for revealing these evil people and removing them from my space. I still have to deal with them to an extent, because we have children involved. But God is good and he's working it all out for my good.

Reminds me of when she was caught with sexual txts from her “business partner”. She panicked. Told her that’s fucked up. Next day she gets soft and says sorry and gives me a kiss. But that’s the only sorry she ever gave. Out of a lot of other things. I stood quiet and speechless from shock and disappointment. What does she do? She raged at me and left the place. It’s like wow can’t even sympathize with me. Just. Runs away. That’s when I packed my bags and left. But I did end up coming back. Trauma Bond. And we have a toddler. Just wanted to make things work.

Bad choice that was my mistake coming back and having a child she will never stop I promise you and then since you came back and had a child if you ever really do leave it’s going to be worse than you ever saw it while y’all were together and prepare for her to do everything she can to take the child out of your life and if the child is old enough, turn them against you

Hahah! My ex would come home and do everything he can to avoid eye contact. Imagine talking to someone while they’re looking sideways? So I confronted him on it and he said some nonsensical crap about it being cultural and he does it out of respect for other. Should have seen through his lying, cheating, despicable ways, which I was too naive and trusting to see initially.

My soon ex husband gave me the silent treatment, he also was hiding vodka in the freezer. He was screwing his coworker, little cowards. So in his case,he just numbed that brain of his with alcohol and sex with his coworker. The divorce is next level nightmare. He doesn't want me but doesn't want to finalize the divorce 🤷‍♀️😈

in my case, my ex narc friend wasn't feeling guilty, she simply accused me of guilt tripping her even when I wasn't going to shame her and was actively working on improving myself so her bs wouldn't get to me anymore

I searched up this video because my dad (a narcissist) has been acting really strange the past few days. Like, he is sad to see me… i can’t really explain it. It could be guilt, but i don’t see what for. I know he’s super sensitive but I don’t know what I could have done to trigger that kind of a reaction either. If anyone has an idea pls let me know. P.S. So this explains why a narcissist is going even more silent after he completely lied about me in court. Like I get only the shortest one-word answers to normal co-parenting questions now. Also, I've noticed that once the shame spiral really starts, then it's even more impossible for a narcissist to even acknowledge faults or take responsibility because the shame is compounding.

I noticed that he knew that what he was doing wasn't right, he said it sometimes, he once said that someone like me shouldn't have children, whereupon he immediately started increasing his "I" again and became arrogant. They partly know what they are doing but I think they can't help but act like that, the narcissism always intervenes to protect themselves

While my ex wife was doing things that caused her shame, she would donworae things if I called her out for it. It was her way of punching back, to hurt me more. She hated being held accountable, but inatead of showing that it caused her guilt and shame she would do more hurtful things tonget me back! And on top of that, would try to justify her behaviors by blaming them on me, spinning things in a way to make me be the reason she did them! She ran off with a new supply when things reached a point where we were fighting all the time. The new supply didnt bring her guilt and shame or hold her accountable, no, he made her feel good about herself and supported her behavior because she went crying to him about how i was being mean to her, which made him feel good a out being the hero who saved the day.

My ex would act different when he was cheating. When he got caught he avoided me and started giving me the silent treatment. He would spiral and try to lie or blame me. When that doesn’t work he would ghost me and pop up later like nothing happened.
