Gatti's worst nightmare turned out to be his wife. Ward and Gatti became very good friends and they both earned that friendship in the ring. Much respect to both fighters. Rest in peace champ! 🥊

When two men go to war in the ring, it often develops a huge level of respect between the two. So that isn't surprising. Louis and Schmelling, Tunney and Dempsey, Hagler and Hearns, AJ and Kiltschko. Even Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are friends now.

Such a great, simple display of how impactful the sport can be. Jim wasn't directly involved. None of us were. It was between two individuals. But what was shown in the contest... what was laid bare, in visceral fashion... is what, potentially, ANY individual can be capable of. The will to "walk through fire", the will to endure any hardship or obstacle without losing the drive to keep trying. Damn fk'n right, it brings a tear to the eye.

@@user-sg8kq7ii3y Saying Floyd could knock both of therm out really shows how much of a casual you are, Floyd is literally known to have feather fists and no power, he's closer to a volume puncher rather than a power puncher. Both Gatti & Ward would easily take his power without question, also this is what modern day boxing is lacking, people are too scared to go to war and will happily dance around throwing a couple punches every now and then with 0 plan to actually engage.
@2313rafa
@2313rafa 22 дня назад
@@user-sg8kq7ii3y He is a very sharp, witty fighter, but he rarely stepped inside the ring with a legitimate threat. A threat that would make him not look as good as he always does. I just think he could have fought people in his division and 154 when he had that belt against the likes of Paul Williams, Erislandy Lara. You know fighters that wouod test his true skill. But it is fair that he didn't make those fights because the money would have never been there. For many years the welterweight division had real threats. I just think that floyd has a history of taking fights that he know he can win. And I think that affected his legacy. When he fought Zab Judah, he was tested. When he fought Marcos Maidana, he was truly tested and rightfully won the fight. But in that fight, did you notice how he was struggling to figure it out? He eventually did, which gave me a glimpse of what he is truly capable of. But those fights were never really there. He has big names under his belt, but a lot of those were past their prime or had a style that Mayweather knew how to pick apart. I think a lot of boxing fans don't really honor his legacy, and I think it is because he never made an impression on people all these years. Muhammad Ali is a great example of leaving an everlasting impression in the ring. Years after he is gone he is remembered. Maybe it also didn't help that people didn't really like his personality either, so it harmed what people think of him. It's kind of sad, the reality of his career.

The third contest gets me every single time. Gatti throwing his right hand with only his middle & distal parts of his hand while still unable to block is borderline delusional. I wouldn’t ask anyone to go through that war but I’m happy to have witnessed it while it happened

1st fight: Perhaps the best ever. 2nd: Entertaining but not competitive. 3rd: Very good but not very close.

This trilogy was amazing. It was like Joe Frasier fighting Joe Frasier. Hard hitting, 2 tough men, each with the same style, each strong willed, and did I say they were both tough as nails. Never a dull moment in the fight. anyone could start and the other finish. I never saw a fight go back and forth as much as these fights. Just when it looked like one was going to get knocked out, he would hurt the other and it was like that the whole fight.

I believe it's from the HBO documentary Legendary Nights: Tale of Ward/Gatti... I think. Pretty sure. Hope that helps. Happy hunting! ✌😁
