As the son-in-law of an Asian, I can attest to this statement. My father in law will make fun of me, call me stooopid, then genuinely help me, and call me stooopid again. That’s how I know I really am part of the family. It’s the realest form of love in every Asian family.
@@martinrivera6770 hmm. Maybe the parent in my head is an Asian parent, because it's way more prone to these behaviours than my actual parents. Especially the 100% is average. Did I incept emotional damage into my own life as a non-Asian?
According to my grades in school, I was always bad at math. The instant I got out into the real world, and started applying things to practical situations, even the more advanced stuff just sort of fell into place. While this skit is very funny, it really does point out how even people who might seem bad at math can get it if you give them realistic, believable situations to apply it to; situations that they'll be working with on the regular.
This is why I did better with higher math where it's applied like in engineering and physics. You solve actual real life situations like "was James Dean actually speeding?" - he wasn't.
True. Plus, sometimes the way the teacher wants you to do it isn't the way that makes sense in your head. I remember struggling with percentages because the teacher wouldn't allow me to use the Rule of Three for getting my answer.
I mean, teachers keep saying that math problems are supposed to be relatable, but somehow "John bought 1438 watermelons and gave 27.5% of them to William, how much does Roger have now?" didn't do the trick for me
I’ve dealt with asian parents like this. Their son had an overall grade of 93 in my class but the mom wanted him to do after school tutorials to raise the grade. 😂
My daughter has been watching too much Steven He. She got a 96 on her Math test and came home saying “Steven! You failure!” We were very proud of her though. 😂
@@henrymai8905 You know what? You’re right! This country made me too soft! From now on, Tiger Mom coming out. I didn’t fly to school underwater during the Ice Age for my kids to get a 96 in Math! 😡😡😡😡
@@speak3names just that i had to fight 5 pterodactyls a t rex i had to swim in the atlantic ocean fighting with sharks wrestling with lions and my son makes an donkey look like einstein
I Have This Unreal Story To Tell.... I was super bad at maths not even average tho one time it made me score 1/60 in my test & I cried pretty badly, but I got an usual Asian father who is very good in maths. he tutored me and said "no matter how much you study if you don't revise things and practice, a day of 18 hours study time will still not be enough to make you confident", I just took it by heart since that was the first time I seen him almost pitying me and for years and years I followed it... Now by only studying 3 hours a day, I myself scored 98.5 out of 100 in maths last year which was 2nd highest marks in my school not only maths but I scored full in English and Science. Now that I remember, he never said you could "score" best if you practice but instead he always said if you practice you can became more "confident" about it, Now I'm an engineering aiming student which was impossible just few years back, I just wanna say it's all about how much you could push yourself to be the one you want, I'm Asian and I wasn't born talented in maths....
@@richardhernandez2477 you can do it!!! I will root for you... when you made it, you will know it's never too late for a restart... just remember don't keep regrets, excuses, comparisons and let's do it next time things beside you, because I know once you did it and felt better after doing it, it will create a saga and will turn itself into a habit and wouldn't even give a hand on things of how it turned this way... I faced it so I know
0:43 is the most accurate part of the video. Whenever I visit my parents, they no longer use phones to call friends. They use Wechat to call and hold their whole dang Tablet to their Ear.
Asians: get a increased buff in all subjects Britans: can smell a cup of tea from 2 miles away Americans: can smell the gun shop from 2 miles away Italians: spaghetti
Binge watching these the last week, my dad who is German and an engineer reminds me of Steven's dad when I told him that putting letters where numbers belong was dumb, I thought he was going to send me to Jesus!
So I know that that was the Fire style: Fallball Jutsu hand signs. And yet understood none of the math at 25 years old. Not quite sure how to feel about that.
I’ve seen it happen. Moron asks me a dumb question claiming he can’t figure out a simple percentage, but when I change the question into a discount: no problem.
😆🤣😆 I had immigrant parents also. It’s very sweet and surprising how similar the experiences are. Respect the heck out of them and treasure them and the experience. So sweet.
I used to be really, REALLY bad at Maths, but then, on the final year of my highschool, my Asian genes suddenly decided to activate. My Maths tutor was really flabbergasted because I was literally his worst student last year and the next thing he knew, I was getting perfect score.
Steven:*can’t activate his Asian powers* Father:*tells him a math question* Steven:*activates Asian powers* Him:”BRO I COULD HAVE DONE THIS THE ENTIRE TIME, WHAT AM I STUDYING FOR THEN” Father:” You’re stupid”
The dad character is just like my dad lol, my dad would call our teacher to ask for the qwestion for math if I got 94 out of 100 marks, like I'm not kidding my parents be like u got 99+on all the subs why u got 6 marks worth wrong qwestion, and they start explaining me with wet eyes. Like I'm the topper of our school. I even broke our school's 50 yrs best student record. Like even if I got 99 they'd be like why u got 99 marks correct and only 1 marks wrong like broooo. If I fail scolding if I got high mark scolding again. My minds fked up man. I don't know what to doo

Can we talk about how Steven was only able to answer when Steven's dad gave him a real world example. Therefore, Steven is already prepared to start a business, he's just too lazy.
@@StevenHe I thought that was part of the stereotype. Until now I have only seen Asians do that. But to be fair the sample of 3 isn't really that representative..
The way he just activated asian powers and he was like “ why did the f i study for” and the father “ i told told u ah stuuupid” thats how my mom reacts if i am bad at math
You made me laugh in history class (we were allowed on the phones) and the teacher almost gave me an F for noise, but when i showed the video to her she laughed too and said that i am excused for making noise. Well done
@@heyyo3746 Totally does 😂 I guess it's just that instead of taking a value as X, some people find it easier to find solutions with taking examples of common everyday objects
I remember one time I had been failing math for the past month and the math test was coming up, and I was understandably freaking out, but then in the last week I suddenly realized how easy the math we were doing was, even though I’d been struggling with it for so long, and it felt something like this.
@@StevenHe yes i know you guys are all geniuses for me i hate math its too complicated for me and i hate this stuff but ironically i love physics and as an arabic person i love english and i don't even know why I just love it im too good at it i managed to finish a 2 hour exam in 30 mins and still get the highest grade
I was gonna say I did it in my head and got that, then I checked on my calculator and it also said that and I was so confused why no one even noticed this obvious mistake
The other equation he also got wrong (yes he changed the seven to a one but still both positive answers are less than one and no where near to his answer)
Yo gyus solved the rice bowl question and I didn't even understand the question still felt like the answer is wrong 😅😅by the way please tell me too how you guys solving 🍚 problem plzz
I swear, your dad's doppleganger kicked me out of my bff's chinatown apartment, in 1976, with a broom, saying I was distracting his daughter 😂 I kid you not. Your videos are perfection.
I’m watching too much of your videos I’m a teacher teaching mathematics in university. Every time my student ask me questions I’m like in my mind Steven’s father: Stooopid!!!! I had to stop what I was teaching for a few seconds to calm myself down from laughing. Then I continued my class 😂
