Welcome back to Boxing After Dark. In todays video we look a double bout between Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor in a undisputed middleweight showdown
The real problem with Hopkins is that his style was so rough and awkward that even if you beat him it ruined your own style. He did it to Tarver, Taylor, Pavlik just to name a few.
This was a crazy story which ended quite well for Hopkins as Kelly Pavlik, the highly feared wrecking machine in his 20's, would demolish Taylor and then fight Hopkins. Everybody thought Hopkins was crazy for accepting the fight but the Executioner would end up easily dominating Pavlik, which was also an indirect way of avenging his losses to Taylor. Great story.
Bernard Hopkins is one of the most workman like Superstar/PPV Guys modern day boxing has ever and probably will ever see. He really had a great bag and great mind for what it would take to win the endless title bouts he was in. Oscar & Felix were both too small for Bernard but both helped propel him into becoming a PPV name. The atmosphere for Trinidad vs Hopkins was ELECTRIC in New York! & Really big bouts in rapid succession against Wright, Tarver, Taylor twice, Calzaghe & Pavlik while already being almost 41 years old when he fought Taylor. Gladiator of the sport! & said whatever was on his mind & was ready to prove it like any great prize fighter should. He took Calzaghe heads on.
Got to respect all that Bernard has accomplished in the sport but I lost a lot of of it for him over the calzaghe comments, never underestimate the Welsh dragon 🏴 brilliant video never the less b hop was a killer 🥶
@@blackmaxbranning3666 yeah Calzaghe definitely beat B Hop but it wasn't impressive...if Joe would've beat a prime Roy id give him more respect...not like my respect matters..but just saying
Jermaine was grieving the loss when he suddenly discovered he scored the win and Hopkins was celebrating the win when suddenly...he ended up grieving the loss.
Yeah you could see that in the first fight. Taylor didn't even celebrate initially. And the change in Hopkins' face when the decision went against him was one of absolute shock
@@hydorah I was shocked too because I had money on Hopkins that night. I also had Hopkins winning the Trinidad fight before he pulled through. I wasn't a casual fan back then like I am now lol jk jk
Nah man, B Hop clearly did enough to win a crazy competitive fight and we know this is true by simply how his opponent knew he was defeated as well. @@beverlypatama8148
Brilliant Video Boxing After Dark extra kudos for the Shadow of Mordor theme. Man I love dat game, I never got around to completing smh. My attention span is random because I have autism. Still salty about these two fights, I truly believe BHop was robbed just like he was robbed against Joe Calzalghe. I am super fan of Joe Calzaghe. I have watched that fight over 70 times. Each time I am amazed how the judges gave it to Joe. BHOP clearly landed more punches with offence and counter punches nearly all night long against Joe. Joe threw way more punches overall, but most of them were parried, blocked, didnt land flush, hit air, hit elbow and just made to look foolish. That night I almost was going to boycot boxing an immoral excuse of a so called sport. Sorry excuse for violence. I come from a whole history of violence. Most of my life was it became normalised, How ironic I come back to violence in some shape or form. We humans are a walking paradox I guess.
The corruption of boxing!!!, when Bhop had no scuff on his face and Taylor had the true facial deformation from punches come on the winner was clear here.
I like Hopkins but i only hated when he would headbutt his opponent while throwing a righthand to hide it. which in a way done cleverly because 90 percent of the time the reff doesn't see it.
Taylor two biggest wins in his career. He was just a young gun that beat an old Dawg like Hopkins at his own old school game. Taylor got off fast, first, and kept the gas on the pedal. 🥊🥊
i.think ya mean some of B.Hop's tactics that are blatant. like karl malone was w/ his elbows😂 i.e. getting the seam of the glove and scraping it over the eye area of an opponent.
Hopkins is one of the all the greats and a true boxing champion with the heart of a warrior!! He was the second coming of sugar ray Robinson 🥊🥊🥊🥊 Taylor was given two gifts Against Hopkins he did not win those fights I didn't care what anybody says! Taylor was overrated rated and faded quickly in boxing 🥊
Taylor got to Roy Jones JR with his street talking acting thug and i think it worked against Roy but Hopkins was in prison saw death the worst in life so Hopkins is that crazy guy and Taylor was Intimidated.and it showed in the fight
He didn't confront him. They just boxed. The thumbnail is stupid too, to go along with the title. Your videos are solid enough by themselves and don't need that clickbait sht.

I feel Hopkins won the first one by at least 5 rounds, and the second fight was much closer but always felt Hopkins closed it, I do think outside of boxing politics effected those two fights, they did not want bhop as champion and they hoped he retired. Hopkins only went up from there and Taylor went downhill sadly.
I loved Taylor because he was always an underdog. His fighting style was a little awkward and he always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. Plus, he was a local boy. I'm from NW Mississippi, just a few minutes from the MS River. Seeing somebody local standing on the international stage beating one of the greatest ever was a vicarious experience. It was sad seeing him fall.
RIGHT!!! "POLITICS"!!!! B-HOP SAID F*** THEM I'LL DO IT "MY" WAY AND THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT AT ALL. THUS FLOYD, AND BUD. WHO ARE AND BEEN SAYING...I'LL DO IT MY WAY SINCE THE "GAME" IS TRYING TO ROB ME.
Noone gonna say how bad ass of a fighter Taylor was, huh? If he would've stayed dedicated. And did more road work instead of partying. He would have whipped froch and pavlik, as well as Hopkins. He had the skill. He just spent too much time working against the grain.
many felt that Taylor rightfully won in a close and competitive fight. In fact, scoring 8 rounds for Hopkins in that fight might be a sign of an attempted corruption. By the way, MMA across all of its promotions (including UFC) has its fair share of robberies, so not sure why some people keep repeating this narrative.
B hop definitely one the first fight he was robbed second fight a give a slight edge to Taylor the bum but b hop was robbed one first fight greatest middleweight champion ever
Is the video where Bernard tells him he can’t cook a grilled cheese in a shoe box? I can’t remember who it was he said that too, but that was some funny stuff.
Hopkins had a universal style and was religiously committed to his body and career. I forgot about this fight but I remembered quickly. B Hop was not beaten so then he should have remained champion. I thought he was robbed back when it happened. Taylor suffered some devastating losses afterward and sadly seemed to have sustained severe brain damage. Pavlik and the super 6 tournament were some horrible losses. I didn't even think he should fight in the super 6. Hopkins by comparison continued fighting at the highest level with minimal regression and even held the title at 49.
@@poindextertunes ehh.. jim lampley… and that other racist whats his face that would go out of his way to disrespect and discredit championship level black fighters?? Yeah.. i grew up watching this shit with hbo and used to wonder as a child….why this happens so blatantly.. even some fights that we watched black fighters win and they obviously got robbed… yeah HBO fights…almost asinine some of the shit that came out of those two.. they only added Roy Jones to soften the blow of their obvious one sidedness
