dudeee idk why all the footage is so low quality in this i literally picked super HQ footage it must’ve been something with yt to mp4 because all the images and stuff i edited in look fine so it’s not a rendering issue i’m super sorry about this :(
@@purrplaysLE I have one: I had to get it because I couldn't really progress otherwise, when you get to insane demons 60hz becomes exponentially harder
I want mods can rate levels, if the level got sent 3 times, it'll be reviewed by elder mods to either rate or keep the level unrate. I think that would be cool
The best option for RobTop would be to let people such as ViPriN or other large names in the community have control on bugfixes and other updates, since those players are very experienced in this game.
that idea could be cool, but they don't know how to code unfortunately, maybe rob could get coders who would code stuff that community members like viprin would tell them
Here’s a thing tho. 2.2 looks like it won’t be coming out ANY time soon. And with lack of content, people gonna get bored eventually. Even with community creators pushing out their own content, it’s getting repetitive, a good example is the weekly and daily. Literally the same 6* or 10 easy demons over and over again every day/week. Pros will eventually quit of either Bordem or just not wanting to play the game at all anymore due to stress, lack of motivation, the community, etc. in the last month, gd has actually been losing players even while in quarantine. If RobTop doesn’t do anything to provide content to the game anytime soon, then I’m sorry to say that gd possibly won’t be alive in mid 2021, also I think we should stop bringing up the topic in general, the more people talk about the death of the game, the faster the death of the game is gonna come. And after this quarantine is over and most people go back to school, the numbers will drop dramatically from a average of like 4K players to like 2-3K thousand on steam, with less people playing the game, and doing school, the more likely they will grow to get bored of the game and eventually q u i t.
There is some players in GD that says that 2.2 will be out on june 22 2020 and when I search on Google when 2.2 will be out it says the same thing. I hope it will be really out on june 22 2020 or I will quit this game. 3 years of waiting... By always saying soon...
@@aztecravemonkey2930 why does everyone think that google means that 22 of june will be the release date. It might be, but google means that june 22 will mark the most time this game has gone without an update (All updates combined). It never said that the update is going to get released june 22. As I said it might, but I highly doubt it.
2.4 journey's end. Will include a new icon called zenith which is just all of the icons that are played through. New level: the beep bop song from that one SpongeBob episode. Then, Disney buys robtop games In all seriousness though, when levels hit a difficulty ceiling extreme demons will just get longer and may end up being an hour long with barely possible gameplay. And a modding api could save GD
gd is one of those games that... will be here to stay. i started playing gd in very late 1.8 (like literally days before the release of 1.9 lol) and played until somewhere early or mid 2.0 and came back in 2019 spring. seeing how much the community changed its crazy, and im this optimistic these changes will come in the future too, the game will hardly ever die imo.
I feel the same even if robtop just leaves the game people will still be making different levels with amazing designs and bosses their is no end to this game (:
I know i'm 4 months late but EXACTLY the same for me. Just a few days before 1.9. I literally have a journal from 4th grade and I wrote some story for school and it was about this "new game" called GD and I had just started playing with my friend. The date says: 11/7/14, a couple of days before 1.9. Long live GD.
I remember in one of Minesap's Q & A videos from 2015, he guessed that Rob would stop updating the game in 3 years. This seemed like so long back then, but 5 years have quickly passed, and people are expecting Rob to keep working when maybe he has moved on to other things.
GD never dies and it shouldn't. Really don't want to lose my most favorite game and my best friends (including my girlfriend) which i met from it's community.
I've seen many players quitting because of there levels that don't get rated . its sad to see that people working hard in there levels and then it just dies completely .
if Geometry Dash dies, well some of the most hardcore could probably recreate it or even mod it or something... I mean this will never die... someone will find a way to keep it alive. Geometry Dash is a unique niche game. The right combination this game had is enough to keep it alive. I have a question though. If this game somehow dies, how it would be resurrected? I have my opinions, maybe I'll edit or reply to this once I gathered enough. And, although I don't play this game as much, I enjoyed this.
interesting stuff! i think that you could be on to something about it getting revived by some people, we already have seen this in the form of private servers and custom gd engines
The GTA franchise hasn't had a new game in +7 years, but there has been a lot of new content and updates to the game (Online wise at least). The problem with GD is that it hasn't had a single update in years and no multiplayer to rely on (as of now). New levels by creators and an "occasional" extreme demon verification or project announcement is sort of all the community has been spoon fed to keep interest. That shit ain't gonna cut. I don't want to be harsh on RobTop, but he seriously needs a dev team or "offload" dev work to experienced creators or something in order to keep the game flowing. I genuinely feel that Rob didn't expect GD to be as big as it is for a small indie game. So long development time and silence could possibly be attributed to this as well.
I remember when 2.0 came out it was amazing. It felt like Christmas. Idk if Ill feel that way when 2.2 comes. I personally don't think 2.2 will be good, well at least for me. idk tho.
this is a pretty well made video :0 and I agree that GD is nowhere near dying btw sometimes it feels like your saying the same point twice but most of the things that you said are pretty agreeable on
Very Cool Video! I am LOVING your content Norkbork! Do you have any tips for newer channels to rise, i know that you are not the best content creator but, i am proud of you!
thank you! and idk, i kinda just started making videos for the fun of it and if you make videos with clear effort in the community they will attract attention, it’s just a matter of time, so i’d say just start making vids and before you know it you’ll be growing if your videos are quality :o
@@norkbork Thank you for the tip, i'll take it into consideration when i will decide to move my channel more from replays and skill to better content! :)
"This game is dying because 2.2 isn't out" Its still so fucking funny how people would say that 3 years ago and the game is still as active as it was back then
I deleted meh comment so I don't have to put it again, oof. But imma just say it again, but in remaster form, "It's a question that I asked myself as well, GD is a game that has it's own style with beautifully (most of the time) made levels by the community. The theories in this video are plausible, hopefully 2.2 might be released (Though some people actually despised the 2.2 update). The game would go out in a bang, or a simple boop".
difficulty height has been reached (VSC) just not legitimately. we know its possible, but we don't know how long it will take to be completed. i mean supposedly Bo had 64-100
I used to be very invested in this game, but I've since moved onto other games, haven't been active in the community for a long time now. My main regrets are some maps I never finished making, I might complete them at some point. Mostly playing Modern Warfare and Titanfall 2 these days.
Great video, it was very interesting! I wanted to say I'm impressed that you managed to get such a good view of the GD community despite having joined at the start of 2.1, but then I realised it has been around 4 years.. Time flies, I suppose. Nonetheless, I feel like you could also mention a portion of the community who was already quite bored of the laziness of RobTop and the uninterestingness(?) of the update 2.1, who have moved onto projects like the 1.9 GDPS, which is currently quite a large community ran by active people.
Here’s my take, if we don’t get 2.2 by 2022(somehow) then we may run out of original level ideas and this game will have no more special things and will die out. But as of now. There are still so many ideas that haven’t been discovered. If 2.2 comes out this year than so much more things can happen! this game is far from dead. Also something cool the community can do is show how much our game has evolved. From stereo madness to The Mayhem War. Oh yeah, that difficulty sealing thing doesn’t really matter. This is because remember Bloodbath? Took 8 months for a second person to beat it. Zodiac was beaten less than 2 months after release.
Here's what i think: GD won't die if the community keeps bringing it up. It happened to me a little while ago with minecraft. I have been playing that game for so many years, but one day i decided to "quit". I didn't touch the game for a couple of months, until i got recommended a video of it on youtube, which is why i got motivated to play it again. So the only reason gd is still sort of relevant is because of youtube. RU-vidrs are the ones that keep the game alive, that's for every game community.
Personally I wouldn't mind it so much if rob sold the game to a bigger corporation, if that means: more updates, more features/ bugfixes. But rob probably wouldnt sell his game as it is his lifes work.
Can you make a video about what will come after The Golden? SEA did the same thing as well. I'd love it if you actually did it and decide cover all the levels below and put in the list like SEA did in his video. And also, I'd like you to cover these levels: Azure Flare, Cosmic Cyclone, Silent Circles, SWI, Apocalyptic Trilogy, Deimos (Akira Kurisu), Firework, Orochi, Innards (Unnerfed), Cimmerian Shade, Galaxy Collapse, Misanthrope, VSC.
The only reason I don't play Gd, is that on my chromebook, it won't let me publish levels. So I was scammed out of the best part of the game really. Happened like a year ago and it still hasn't been fixed
Aeon made a video talking about the lifespan of Geometry Dash. He noted that platformer mode will allow for speedrunning, which could make the game last a really long time (similar to Mario Kart). Great video btw :)
i know that im insanely late to watching this video but i personally think that what will happen when robtop quits is that the community will take over and will create their own servers, rate system, and everything will continue, similar to games like super smash bros melee, mario kart wii, and many old games that still have fan made servers and that the game will live on from there for many more years, and although this game will hit a skill ceiling, geometry dash has started to mainly become an art platform for creators to make the most unique things we will ever see so in a sense i dont think this game will ever truly die
I think Rob should update the game faster even if they are not big updates, people will quit, but they can play the game again to try the updates, it's my only hope
Imo. We are far from the "Difficulty Ceiling". The thing is, Silent Circles is possible. Although Humanly Impossible. One day someone might verify it. And that will not happen anytime soon. So let us be glad that there is a lot of air to breathe left. What do you think?
I honestly think that the game will die once RobTop ends support for it. After that all the above mentioned things can start to occur, especially lack of interest. Until then I think the community can survive, at the very least the longest when compared to Rob ending support. I also think RobTop should focus on adding more level editor stuff and decoration rather than focusing on new game modes. There's only so many new game modes he can introduce, getting more level editor features and deco would give a lot more flexibility to players, and ofc add new levels into the main game. Also optimization for high objects in levels.
If 2.1 has proven anything, it's that the community have become completely self-sustainable, there may not be 2.2 in even 10 years and people will STILL make content, build levels, and beat extremes. Steam charts are one thing, but don't forget the mobile market as well. I am very optimistic about this game's longevity.
I'd personally think that timing is the most important thing when it comes to a death of something. I've seen this in the UHC minecraft community, as when almost all of the biggest players fade out of activity, and with the introduction of Fortnite, pushing it down even further. Imagine the same scenario with GD and you get what I mean. I personally think that the game isn't going to die anytime soon. Though if a purge happens and suddenly all of the top creators and players are gone, we would definitely see something of similar to the case with UHC. Also, RobTop is seriously non-transparent about his updates and his scheduling, and it has been almost 3 years since the release of 2.1. Now I personally don't know what his life is like, or what he is doing, but I'm sure that his approach with updates is seriously affecting the game negatively.
Basically the only hype I get from this game is when jonathangd makes a new level :( But I still play this game a TON. I am very dedicated player. And dedication does not mean hype.
The fact of verification of extreme demon is low throught time is because there're so many stolen video all the community (that's what I guess. It can right or wrong idfk)
What if one day someone starts teaching aspects like gameplay or decoration design Not like surface level “this is how you make x from so-and-so’s level” but almost complete “editor theory” or something along those lines Something where the big things that no one understands in a level like Ocular Miracle or Ouroboros can become comprehensible to anyone It might make the sea of creators even larger. But it will definitely make a certain creator stand out and figure out how to make something for the next big level or possibly even figure out the how to level verification. Sorry for the tangent, but I’m so hyped to see how gd stays alive with some out of the box thinking that any of us may have never seen coming.
I think the events will go in this order: 2020-2021 mass quitting 2021. we hit the difficulty ceiling 2022-2023 rob stops development 2022-2023 no more hype centers 2023-2024 number of rising players and creators declines 2024 gd is reduced to the casual players, as most hype ceases So don’t worry, this is a worst case scenario, gd should continue to thrive for a while
"I think it would be better for the community in the way it works than some big company came" That sentence gave me a scary thought where EA bought gd and added microtransactions
A lot of people will come back to the game when 2.2 comes out and as I know GD is the only mobile game that has currency and no in-game payments, so I don't want it to die
i would say that the chance of the hardest level possible coming out forever is basicly absurd. new gamemodes are coming out faster than someone could verify the hardest level possible, then when the new gamemode comes out they will have to master that untill robtop runs out of game modes. so the inactivity of robtop is more likely. tell me if im wrong
Tbh Geometry Dash is now dead I mean like it's 2021 (still no 2.2) and I feel like RobTop has given up because even I am starting to slowly getting to get bored of it. Geometry Dash in 2016 millions of viewers nowadays around 30k views. Even GuitarHeroStyles does not get a lot of views anymore and doesn't get subscribers anymore so in my thoughts gd Is now dead because of RobTop
I mean I basically quit the game but I still play it time to time, like I just got Jawbreaker 75% which kinda motivates me to play more, but it will probably die soon. Also like I quit before in 2016 but then came back in 2019 and looking at how far the community has come from then and I really enjoyed it. But I feel this is the end to it
Their last update was 3 years ago when 2.11 was out XD and they were plannning something for 2.2 and 3 years later there’s still nothing yet from the community
GD isn't dead yet. Just not Mainstream or popular anymore and it stayed niche. Although I am starting to get bored I'm not gonna quit this game yet until I beat all demons on Map packs and Gauntlets. Just like Osu and Beatsaber, Geometry Dash will never die so as long as fans aren't quitting.
Creating will continue growing the community will either grow or lose to this chaos. The problem I believe that could kill GD is the inactivity of RobTop. (My opinion)
Honestly gd is going up more right now than it has in months. The new, more mainstream video style of 10 minute-ish videos with commentaries and funny moments that creators like npesta and juniper are doing are creating much more interest in the game compared to around a year ago.
I don’t see how the game is dying, when you look at steamcharts for exemple it is surprisingly rising most of the time and has overall more periodes of rising than falling in terms of players, creators, upcoming levels and players all keep this game alive
ZephiroX GD yeah the game has def been more alive than it has been in a while i think, like i said we don’t even have to worry about the game dying yet for a long while lol
@@norkbork if i speak for myself, and i guess some creators would agree with me, is that we (or at least i) have enough ideas and motivation sometimes to even continue creating when the game loses support from robtop or any event. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the community took the game by themselves by doing private servers or some sort and lead the game by themselves instead of having a company do it, that's how much some people love this game, even i am not done with 2.1 i have so much levels to do yet from finishing orochi to normal solo levels, trying out new styles or remaking old levels that i'm not that much impatient to see 2.2 personally. The way i could see gd's death would be desinterest from people as they grow up (this can take years i believe) and no new/younger players being interested in the game.
Every game dies eventually, but some take longer than others. Take Minecraft for example. Minecraft has been booming for 11 years, and while its had its grim moments, it’s still been at the top for the longest time, and doesn’t look like it will ever lose that spot for a loooong time.
