There's no doubt that dry needling is a valuable tool in a therapist's kit - I've taught many therapists about how to use it safely and effectively, not to mention used it in my own clinic countless times. But I've come across too many instances where therapists are jumping straight to needling and forgoing basic bodywork techniques.
Or worse - using dry needling without enough foundational understanding of anatomy to be using it safely. This was one of those times.

I completely agree with you on this stu. So many new therapists go to dry needling out of graduation and also not following clinical reasoning and not knowing their anatomy properly.

Absolutely! A fundamental understanding of how the body works takes time.

Completely agree there should be a 3 year postgraduate evidence based clinical knowledge that can be proven to the governing body of the needling course

I had dry needling done to my right shoulder and I couldn't move my head for 3 months, it's been 4 years ever since that happened. I have nerve problems throughout my face my head and my neck my shoulders my back and they don't know why. I know it's from that dry needling before that ever happened I was told that I had a frozen shoulder as a cashier on black Friday but nothing else was wrong with me.

OMG , that is horrific , did you approach the therapist that did it and get an explanation? if so what was the outcome?

Sounds like the school might need some feedback too! Poor client 😬

It takes a bit of diplomacy to communicate how serious the issue is and how to correct it without it becoming a personal attack. It's why good teachers are so important!
