Roger Federer had it tough against Andy Murray when the Scot broke through back in 2006-2010. But then Federer turned the tables and won the H2H with 14-11 by winning the last five matches despite being past his prime! In this match Federer dominates Murray in the Cincinnati quarterfinal 2014.

That 2012 Wimbledon was something else, I remember being floored when Fed hit that famous inside in forehead drop shop

Yes. Seeing that in real time was one of my favourite highlights of all my years watching Tennis and sports in general. The audacity and poetry of his genius is all summed up in that point.

2014 Andy Murray was not Prime Andy Murray. He was recovering from an injury and had a plaque campaign in 2014. He was coming back in 2015 and had his best career season in 2016.

Fun fact - this match was the last time in Andy Murray's career that he broke Roger's serve. They played 3 more times in 2014-2015 and Murray only had 1 break point in 3 matches. That break point came in the first game of their 2015 Wimbledon SF. Roger's serve was on fire in that match and Murray just couldn't get into his service games.

First of all, awesome content. I always watch your stuff. With that being said, I disagree with this video. 2014 was a recovery season for both Fed and Andy. Fed was successfully adjusting to his new racket and climbed back from No. 8 to 2 by end of the year. Murray underwent hip surgery at the end of 2013 and was recovering rather slowly in 2014. All in all, I believe Fed has the upper hand in 2014 and Andy was nowhere in his prime here.
@RazOls
@RazOls 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! He had back surgery in 2013, not hip surgery, which was in 2018 and 2019. Fed had back issues in 2013 as well although never any surgery

@TheY2G
@TheY2G 8 месяцев назад
I think you may not remember it because it took place between 2012 and 2015 godlike level editions, so it's kinda eclipsed by them. Federer won both without dropping his serve, so this one feels like a lower tier title.

To be fair to Murray he was nowhere near his level of 2012-13 and 2016 here, he was ranked 10th in the world at the time of this match, but Federer still schooled him as he did pretty much every time they played after 2012 except for that AO 13 match in Fed's worst year. Not sure Murray would have won Wimbledon again had he faced a healthy Federer
@masters.1000
@masters.1000 9 месяцев назад
2016 was overrated. His wins were solely due to the fact that the Big 3 weren't there. He played much better in 2013.

@@masters.1000Djokovic was still in his prime and Murray beat him in two of their five meetings.

Give credit to Murray, he strived to win 5 yr end championship (Beijing, Shanghai ,Vienna, Paris and ATP finals) in 2016. That was something that Big3 has never achieved. Sadly this is the last yr of his prime.

Anyone else want to point out that at this point Murray had surgery at the end of 2013, had not been in a final of any tournament(any level) for over 12 months, had not been #1 yet, had QF QF SF QF the previous 4 Grand Slams, had not won a Masters in 18 months etc etc. So while good or very good Murray but "Prime Murray", uh not so much.

Murray's forehand is too high and lacks a little bit of power unlike Djoko or Nadal. Federer is aware of this and his game suits him like a glove

In fairness, 2014 was not a good year for Murray at all, probably the worst of his 'prime' years. Got walloped 0 and 1 by Federer at the WTFs later on that same year.
