2 steps (no-gather), zero carries, and hand/body checking, and he's still better than anybody in today's ruleset.
@MJIZZEL

NBA was pleasing to the eye back then. Strict rules and no bias towards offense. Today they allow to take 2 steps back, then another tep back to get separation. It cringe looking. Imagine if Hakeem or Jordan or Kobe be were allowed all those extra steps with the footwork they had, they would be unstoppable.
@Pat-Nice
@Pat-Nice 9 месяцев назад
The gather step is the biggest load of crap. Plus no hand checking today. All rules give such an advantage to the offensive players today. Then we have the Michael didn’t shoot three’s crowd. The Atlanta Hawks in the latter half of the 1990s were impressive with Dikembe Mutombo, but Steve Smith and Mookie Blaylock who belonged to the Hawks at the time were also very good players. Although the Hawks lost to the Chicago Bulls in the playoff conference semifinals in the 1996-1997 season, the Hawks were strong in the regular season. The Hawks in the 1990s were also victims of Michael Jordan's Bulls.

For some historical perspective, the 1992 Bulls team was just the 5th team in 45 NBA seasons to win 67 or more games. Since then, eight teams won 67 or more, including the Bulls twice. So 67-15 might not seem so impressive today, but back in 1992 it seemed like an absurd number.

36 holes of golf? Thats nothing. As a Chicago native we all used to hear rumors about MJ and his extracurricular activities. Jordan was literally something different. It's hard to imagine someone as great as he was partying all night and then still giving 100% at practice and bust 40 pts in a game, after being up all night and 1 hr of sleep on the team bus or plane.The world was a different place back then. there was such thing as privacy. and the media new better than to make Michael look bad. In the 80’s and 90’s, I wasn’t even a Bulls fan. But to this day and even then, I’ve never not said that Michael Jordan is THE greatest basketball player of all time. Period. Obviously it was the insane shots and dunks he pulled off. But the guy also had every single other skill set in his repertoire. And frankly, he just looked good doing it, and did it with style. He was even perfectly proportioned physically. Yeah a point is a point, no matter how it’s pulled off. But you never saw Jordan awkwardly throwing shots up. Even if he was in the air, got pushed mid-jump, and was horizontal falling down, I swear he still got off a perfectly firmed shot. The guy is just the most perfect player to ever play a sport in ANY game.

Steve Smith had 15 points in the 1st half of 1992 1st Round Game 3, none of them against Jordan. He had 3 points in the 2nd half, the only points he scored on Jordan the whole game. Jordan held him to 0 points in the final 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter and the final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter (Smith sat out the 4th quarter prior to that point). Game 2 he only had 11 points and almost all of them were after getting blown out by 20+. Game 1 was the only one where he succeeded against Jordan's defense. Jordan shut down Smith to 17.6 PPG on 32/31/83 shooting in their 1997 Playoffs rematch (after Smith's 20 PPG season), rotating with Harper and Pippen throughout the series.

Man... I forgot about about Grant Long! I don't recall Steve Smith's career with the Atlanta Hawks... But, l am well aware of it with the Portland Trailblazers, though.

As a boy i saw jordan and thought i was watching a superhero... as a man i can truly see what i was really watching was an absolute fucking menace that terrorized the NBA with confidence skill and a will to not only win but to crush anybody who opposed him. Air Jordan.... G.O.A.T.

This is the difference between Jordan and Lebron. Not just the mentality but the ability to ceeate shots. Unlike Bron, Jordan can change directions while driving towards the basket.
